just saying, for ease of naming but it is propably an aim 9l(i) or aim 9l(I)-1

Yea, but still, if it would be a normal Aim-9L it would still be crime lel

I know this is an old conversation, but I wanted to add some points. In the future, I suspect radar emissions would be something people would attempt to limit as they’d be hyper sensitive to any RWR pings. There would be competitors to Eurofighters that would be able to slave sensors and weapon systems to the direction of radar emissions. Rafale for example is capable of firing MICAs in the direction of RWR pings, so having IRST instead to target aircrafts without putting yourself in danger would be a big asset.

Same goes for the LWR, Rafale is capable of guiding MICA IR at BVR ranges using the LRF, and MAWS would detect it too late at 7.5km away.

Having IRST and LWR on Eurofighter would contribute greatly to survivability.

Firing at something from long range based on detected emissions and then utilizing the radar on the missile + two-way datalink to verify target type and whatnot is a good way to prevent your own detection.

Explain more? I think I misunderstood you

Modern missiles could use anti radiation features as well as the two way datalink to guide themselves within close proximity of the emissions source. Use of the two way datalink can also prevent fratricide and other issues by painting a picture of what it is you’re attacking via the missiles onboard radar rather than the aircraft.

Just a thought.

i mean irst wont matter too much imo
