Description: The Eurofighter Typhoon is the perfect example of the result of well-done European cooperation between some nations. In the Italian air force it cover the role of main fighter. Talking about its story, In 1983, development of the Eurofighter began as part of the New European Fighter program, a program involving Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, and France, but after a few years, France left the project to build the Dassault Rafale. After France’s final exit, the first technical demonstrator, the Bae Eap, flew to the United Kingdom a few years later, in August 1986. The companies involved in the project were Bae Sistems (United Kingdom), Airbus (Germany), Alenia Aereonautica, now Leonardo (Italy), and ITP Aereo (Spain). The first prototypes were DA (Development Aircraft), and the first of seven, the German DA1, flew for the first time on March 27, 1994, followed by the British DA2 on April 6 of the same year. A total of 7 prototypes were built: DA1 and DA5 (Germans), DA2 and DA4 (British), DA3 and DA7 (Italians), and DA6 (Spanish). The first contract for a total of 148 Trance 1 aircraft (55 for the UK, 44 for Germany, 29 for Italy, and 20 for Spain) was signed in 1998, and serial production of the first version, the Trance 1, began in 2000. In 2004, production of 236 aircraft of the second version, the Trance 2, began. In 2009, production of 112 of the third version, the Trance 3, began, and in the future, production of the fourth version, the Trance 4, will probably begin. The Italian Air Force operates a total of 96 Eurofighters (28 Trance 1, 47 Trance 2, and 21 Trance 3). In the future, Italy will very likely buy the Eurofighter Trance 4 (to replace the older Trance 1) and the Eurofighter ECR (to replace the Tornado ECR since F35 cannons can’t do anti-radiation and electronic warfare missions). The interest of Italy in getting a new EF was both confirmed by Leonardo and Bae System. Italian Eurofighter Trance 3 (and probably Trance 2) will also get the new Aesa variant of the Captor M, the ECRS MK2 since Italy joined in the project 2 years ago and recently assigned one two seat Eurofighter T3 for the development of the ECRS Mk2 radar. Talking about where the Trance 1 Eurofighter will go, they won’t probably be shipped, but they will very likely be donated to Ukraine (the proposal is the object of discussion right now). The Italian Eurofighter is also deployed in Romania and Lithuania to protect NATO airspace. They first saw them in 2011 against Libya, where they performed anti-air and anti-ground missions.
Why It should be in the game: The Eurofighter Typhoon is the most advanced aircraft of his generation and it will bring with all it’s Trance, block and developemtn aircraft a lot of very powerfoul multirole fighter to the Italian TT.
