When will it happen? or will it come in 5 years with the IRIS T
It will come when ECM is added to the game, which could be this year based upon some wording they made regarding 5th gens and the early tests we saw in the Nuclear Thunder event on the bombers
In the meantime, Im just hoping they eventually fix BOL and overhaul the instructor, both are impacting the Typhoon quite hard
what is wrong with the BOL System? i just know that the flares and chaff are less efective for some reason
Exactly that, both the flares and chaff should be considerably stronger than they currently are.
Flame’s excellent write-up can be read here:
But TLDR: “Flares” should be stronger than standard flares but with a reduced burn time and the chaff should be at least on par with standard calibre chaff.
Soon enough ig. Stuff like ECM would probably be extremely hard to model thanks to them being extremely classified so expect them to be same for all jets. Besides that EFT won’t be getting ECM and IRIS-T alone, other nations would get ECM and next Gen IR missile on their own jets
Dude is still Asking to buff the euro
Im asking for something that is significantly and notably ahistorically nerfed to be fixed.
Especially as fixing BOL buffs a number of aircraft. Including several that are not doing well at the moment, such as the F3 Late, FA2, Viggen D/DI, F-14B, etc etc.
Or shall we just pretend that the only aircraft with BOL is the Typhoon? or that because the Typhoon is doing “okay” with the current state of BOL that all other aircraft should be nerfed?
So yes, im asking for something that is fundementally broken to be fixed? Or is the Typhoon banned from bug fixes simply because people dont like it being good?
It will, however, probably have one of the most capable / comprehensive ECM systems.
Cant wait for Gaijin to nerf the ECM to the worst in the game and buffing in the same time der DIRCM from the Mi-28 even tho its unrealistic af right now
I doubt they’ll go that far, but I can see them making all ECM basically identical, specifically so that aircraft with much weaker ECM dont end up at a disadvantage. Notably Soviet aircraft
How is ECM even compared if we have very limited info about them? What would make EFT’s ECM most capable and how would it compare to ECM of F-35?
ECM will barely have an impact, the purpose of ECM is to deny long range acquisition but given WT maps most radars burn trough airborne ECMs at about 60km ish as such it’s basically useless and not worth it.
Ontop of that most missiles have HOJ mode, which would make notching and chaffing useless.
Maybe in the F4 bracket it can be good, but beyond that it’s useless.
Using information what is publicly known about on Eurofighter’s ECM you can deduce it is more comprehensive than just about any other aircraft in game. The Eurofighter has:
- Two AESA jammers, supporting both noise and DRFM / deception jamming
- Two Towed Radar Decoys
- Up to 32 expendable active radar decoys
- Comprehensive EW modes for CAPTOR-E
- A healthy number of countermeasures
- A comprehensive DASS suite (RWR, MAWS, LWS)
I can’t think of any other aircraft currently in game which has such comprehensive ECM coverage; and the Eurofighter has all of that internal to the airframe, not affecting weapons carriage. Many aircraft need to give up weapon stations and carry external pods to provide at least some of those capabilities. Towed Radar Decoys and Expendable Active Radar Decoys are also among the best forms of protection available in real life, and very few aircraft in game have access to them (with just about all of those needing to give up weapons to carry them).
The F-35 obviously isn’t in game yet. But in Summary:
- F-35 has stealth, Eurofighter does not
- Eurofighter has dedicated jammers, F-35 (apparently) does not
- Both can use their radar for electronic warfare, but CAPTOR-E has a much larger coverage than the F-35’s radar (200° vs 140°).
- Both have TRDs
- Both can use expendable active decoys
You’re talking about noise jamming. ECM systems also use deception jamming where the ECM system receives the signal from the enemy’s radar, modifies the signal slightly, then re-transmits it back to the enemy radar. When the enemy radar receives this modified signal it processes it thinking it is it’s own signal reflecting off the target, causing it to place your aircraft in the wrong location. Essentially where the enemy radar thinks you are, and where you actually are, become two different things - you can see how that might be problematic for weapons guidance.
The Eurofighter has Towed Radar Decoys. The jamming signals are transmitted from an antenna towed 100 or so metres behind the aircraft; as a result if HOJ missiles lock onto the jamming signals they end up flying harmlessly past the aircraft having been homing to an imaginary target 100+ m away.
I was going to give example of F-16 and how it could carry 2 AN/ALE 50 (which would have given it 4 TRD) and 4 ADM 160 (and possibly brite cloud as well) , only to realize that F-16 will no longer be able to use those pylons and could only carry 2 missile :(
Yep, other aircraft can have most or perhaps even all of the toys the Eurofighter has, but the Eurofighter has them all internally, which I don’t think any other aircraft in game does. Even the Rafale needs to give up two weapons pylons if it wants to carry TRDs.
I am aware of different jamming modes, from noise, RGPO, RANRAP and such, they work best of soviet era stuff like SA-2, SA-5 and such, they work weakly on modern radars with advanced protocols.
Still, modern radars (at War thunder distances) are able to burn trough all the deception, making ECM mostly a preventive measure than a solution to locking.
Yes, and it would be good if it wasn’t classified.
My point is that ECM can only be implemented in WT as the simple noise barrage that denies Range/Vel information and nothing beyond that, due to stuff being classified and probably engine limitations. I would love an actual ECM suite in the game, but it’s just not feasable.
Not enough, we need the DASS upgrades so we can carry a lot more :P
Plenty enough is known about it to model it. For example:
- The theory of operation for TRDs in general is public knowledge
- The frequency coverage of the Eurofighter TRD is public knowledge
- The angular coverage of the Eurofighter TRD is public knowledge
- The speed / g limitations of the Eurofighter TRD are public knowledge
Also you’ll be surprised just how much information on ECM systems is publicly available, just not easily accessible online. For example anyone can go to the National Archives if they want and read a 173 page report on trials of the AN/ALQ-101 ECM pod.
I am more than likely mistaken, but didn’t the event B52H have ECM?
