Eurofighter CAPTOR-M TWS+ experiences (poll)

As many of you likely know the Eurofighter’s CAPTOR-M radar has a pretty poor reputation on the live server for tracking ghost targets and losing track of real targets. This update a new form of TWS, known as TWS+, was added to the CAPTOR-M which was supposed to fix these issues.

  • Mirage 2000-5F, MiG-29SMT, Yak-141, Su-39, MiG-21 Bison (Britain), AV-8B Plus (all variants), F-16C/D, F-14A/B, F-15C/E, EF-2000, Typhoon FGR.4, F-2000A, Tornado F.3/F.3 Late/ADV — an improved TWS mode has been added. In this mode each time after a full scan pattern is completed, scanned targets are matched to already created tracks, which lowers the probability of track switching to another target, which would lead to missile retargeting through data link. In the hangar the mode is named “TWS+” in the radar X-ray.

I’m curious what people’s experiences with this new radar mode are. Please vote in the poll and share your thoughts in the comments.

What do you think of CAPTOR-M with TWS+ on the dev server?
  • It is better than the radar on the live server
  • It is no different to the radar on the live server
  • It is worse than the radar on the live server

On the fence whether its equal or worse without jumping back and fourth between dev and live. But it certainly isnt better

tried a test flight on the dev server and it couldn’t even track the 2 planes that spawn in front of you. If it did track them, it trailed exactly as it does on the live server, so I’d say its not better.

it is said ghost tracking issue was fixed, not quite
it is said even auto switch to IR mode ARH can still launch, worked
it is said the TWS scanning sequence was fixed, not quite, still can’t acquire targets at close range mid height at certain angle
it is said it will be less likely to track incoming missile which cause DL to misguide ARH on its way to the actual target, the problem is still there

This update will finally fix both EF2000 and Rafale IRST swapping issues, by allowing you to still fire fox3 on IRST mode IF it was changed automatically.
No you can’t just fire radar missiles on IRST mode, only if it is changed automatically when your target is notching, it will try to switch back to PD lock but if it doesn’t, you can still fire your missiles.

This is by far the best “upgrade/fix” they got. Now you can lock targets on IRST and swap when ready to launch reliably, without messing future locks at random.

This so going to be so frustrating for airframes that should also have the capability since my reports were rejected, so the issue is even less likely to be corrected in time for the update.

It’s even funnier, because of the moderator, closed the reports to comment so I didn’t have a chance to respond to fix the issues without needing to DM a Tech mod on the forums.

[DEV]The F-14B was missed when adding IRST/EOTS - SARH guidance

“There is no source for TCS in An Outsider’s view of the AIM-54 Phoenix/AWG-9 Weapons System; the page is excerpted from another book.”

Relevant exerpts

I don’t know about you but the following excerpt was preferentially supplied with the report because I wanted to save time and didn’t want to have to duplicate an excerpt, for a reason of such limited significance.

and the below page from the report is substantively similar, also the claim that the TCS is referenced nowhere is bogus as “IR/TV” sensor is mentioned in the “Antenna Program” column of the Pulse | Pulse Radar Slaved (PRSL) Mode entry.

More details are additionally provided in the DM of course

Both

[DEV]LITENING AT (AAQ-28(V)4)A2A tracking and SARH / ARH support

And

[DEV]ATFLIR A2A tracking and SARH / ARH support

Received the same response, containing two claims, which I will address separately;

“They already have air-to-air search/tracking capabilities, you can switch to targeting pod view, search the air, and can lock-on to air-to-air targets.”

The scope of the reports in question was to have aircraft (various F-15, F-16 ,F/A-18, AV-8B, etc.) with either Targeting pod referenced also receive these changes as both pods have an Air To Air capability.

Hell, we’ve even got video of it

Relevant excerpts

Note: A/A superior detection and tracking schemes is listed as a feature.

Note:

“However, ATFLIR’s capability has expanded beyond this traditional role to include support of unguided weapons and Global Positions System (GPS weapons), bomb damage assessment and Air-to-Air target tracking and recognition. ATFLIR has successfully detected, classified and tracked targets at altitudes and ranges substantially greater than those traditional targeting systems. Detection range exceeds 40Nmi and Laser rangefinder and Target designator is effective above 50kft.”

“There is no evidence in this report that they support SARH/ARH mode. The F-4 and F-14 are not the same as the F/A-18, that’s a huge logical leap.”

If that was the case then how does the APG-65 support “Memory track” and “track-files” functionality? It works the same way as outlined with the radar providing guidance while the Pod provides angular tracking of the target and hands off angular updates to the radar.

I think its worse. previously the radar would look like its not tracking the target properly but the amraam seeker was still tracking the target correctly. now it doesnt
plus, the track updates are kinda glitchy. i do not like it

I personally find the radar to be night and day more useable.
