Isn’t the main change the side skirts? Because I know the composite is modeled wrong in game as the German C package not B package. That’s also why i said foddered and not skins. my big issue is why am I able to take out a lineup for top tier France that’s not French vehicles its German
I’m waiting gaijin to change the OCU to become proper OCU not the Frankenstein!!
Turrets are different on 1A5BE, 2A5NL, and 2A6NL.
Hull is different on 2A6NL… let’s see if I still have the screenshot… I do.
Just a ton of minor changes.
And while I get it, it’s a Leopard 2, same base platform.
The M4 Jumbo 76 is closer to the M3 Lee than it is the T20, yet we call all three of those deeply unique vehicles.
There’s a Leopard 2A5 out there with a 105mm gun.
I get if a lot of small changes aren’t your thing, I do; but they’re interesting to other players.
I’ll never play BMPs, but others will.
I’ll never touch Britain’s OSA, but others will enjoy it & make it a unique part of their British lineups.
4? of the over 40 vehicles added this update were copy-paste, and at least 1 of them was a premium.
I think most players accept that some copy-paste vehicles are necessary. The real issue is how many are acceptable , and it’s hard to deny that Gaijin has leaned too heavily on them in recent updates.
To me, this appears to be the result of poor long-term planning and internal coordination when it comes to vehicle balancing and battle rating progression. Many of the gaps now being filled with duplicate vehicles seem to have been created by earlier balancing decisions. I understand that developing entirely new vehicles takes significant time and resources, but that’s exactly why those additions should be planned well in advance rather than addressed with short-term solutions.
As for the claim that Gaijin is “trying” not to lock important or unique vehicles behind a paywall, I find that difficult to accept. Many of the most anticipated or distinctive vehicles still end up as premium or event content because they’re the ones most likely to drive sales. Nobody expects a company not to make money, but claiming you’re trying to avoid paywalling desirable vehicles doesn’t match what players are actually seeing.
The copy paste comment was mainly to point out stuff like the M109, M55 and leopards beginning to fill every other tree pushing back that addition of stuff like the Wespe or Hummel for Germany. or any of the French artillery.
Also all of the tanks you mentioned are US tanks in the US tree which backs up my point. and if that picture is trying to show the differences between the NL and GR variants than its’ literally side skirts, gribbling and smoke that is different. I’m not advocating for it to be removed I’m saying it should be foldered under the main variant in the German tree because it just makes gaijin backlog the fixes of the bugs with the French tanks because they “have an armored tank.”
They already have a tank that fill that role Its the Leclerc
No, let America have one jet it dosent share with other countries
Nothing will push back other additions other than a stall in researching that asset.
I don’t know with 100% certainty, but typical vehicle research teams get to choose what they research from a giant pool, and in War Thunder’s case that pool is going to be hundreds big.
Obviously they’ll be mandated to research things specific for an update, but everything else would be free game.
& I like having unique Leopards alongside my Leclerc in the future.
I like have a Leopard 2, Type 10, & Oplot all in one lineup; can’t get that in any other tech tree either.
For one death leavers? Sure, copy-paste doesn’t benefit them. For lineup users? It expands the uniqueness of the lineup itself.
& keep lobbying for the additions you want to see.
I want to see AIDC FCK1.
I just won’t complain if an F-16AM NL is added cause there are thousands of people that will love it at minimum.
I can wait, I have over a thousand vehicles to choose to play as-is.
The irony of this statement while both Israel to some extent Japan continue to receive comparatively few additions with each major update. While it is true they do not have an extensive array of vehicles to add, it doesn’t excuse the lack of additions with the past couple major updates. Within just the past year, the additions for Israel have been:
Mig 21 2000
Hunter AFV
Eitan
Spitfire LF Mk IXc
Merkava Mk1
Bardelas
MD450B
F-16I
SPYDER
Someone can correct me if Im wrong but there have been a grand total of 9 new additions to Israel within the past year. For comparison, Russia has received 12 within in the past 2 updates. As a disclaimer this considers every single addition. Considering just this alone I’m not sure how this is anything other than just pure negligence.
The current situation of just being forced to cope with the very few meaningful additions is just frankly ridiculous. I get that development of new vehicles takes time, but its very clear that the development effort is not spread out in a manner that could be considered fair. While Israel does not have a vast array of unique vehicles to add there are several notable additions that would still provide a notable boost to Israel’s current state despite being fairly similar to whats already available, namely:
Merkava Mk4M-400
Other SPYDER variants
Later Sabra variants
You could argue that these additions are copy paste, but considering current trend of additions having very little impact, this is more than acceptable in my opinion.
There are more vehicles I could list, but there are other members in the community that have taken the time to extensively list out solid additions.
As for this whole bit, the expectations for this are already pretty low given the explanation for the addition of the Hunter AFV to the Israel tree. I still question the decision to list out points that would give reason to believe that it wouldn’t go to the Israeli tree only to end up not going through with it. I frankly do not have any hope that any changes to the devblog format will remedy the current problems.
“Expanding the uniqueness” as you use tanks that are in 4 tech trees. The unique part of France is the French tanks not the German ones. If you want the slop of having a T-80 Variant, a Leo , and a Japanese tank supported by US air just advocate for the WT mobile ability to mix lineups.
I’m fine with them adding the NL but it shouldn’t have been the TT FRENCH premium. That should have been a real French Aircraft that now wont get added because of it’s existence.
The unique part of tech trees are the lineups you can create with them.
Ground isn’t a one spawn game mode.
All French vehicles will get added in-time.
As France gets no new French vehicles for how many updates now?
1, one update.
2 with no ground/air, but 1 with no French.
4 total French vehicles (ground/air) since Seek and Destroy in June of 24’ with only the 1st Rafale and the Jag being unique vehicles.
This is omitting the M55, which is copy-paste
And I would argue it’s quite a stretch to argue that the 2a5nl and 2a6nl are functionally unique, and in fact I’d argue most players would argue so.
Finally, the Leo 1a5BE, especially without it’s MECAR ammo, is not meaningfully unique from the Leopard 1a5’s either (I guess it has less armor, so there’s that)
It could’ve been one of the most interesting F-16s in game, but they ruined it with very avoidable mistakes.
If they wamted F-16 with AMRAAM they should’ve just added the eMLU.
That isn’t really the vehicles fault, only Gaijins for nod modelling it right, it really should have MECAR ammo. At least the visual model is already unique, but it would be nice if they gave it more unique function too.
Thinking about it, I do hope with “duplicate/C&P/varints” etc. devblogs more detailed explanation that they claim they will be doing.
They also talk about historical justification, stuff about how a vehicle is the last of its type in service (like how the 1A5BE is the last MBT used by Belgium), so it has as much of a place as the “unique” one-off and private prototype.
It’s sad watching those reject MBTs and Aircraft, which are key parts of a line-up for the sub-nation, because the host already has jets and MBTs.
The issue is that’s usually the best gaijin does. It’s rare to make actually unique variations. and even with the round it should still be in a German 1A5 folder
War Thunder is primarily a naval, ground, and air game, but I’ll list air and ground…
Air and ground French service/made vehicles since June 2024:
Rafale, EBRC, SAMPT x2, AMD35, VBCI, Rafale C, Mirage 2000D-RMV, M46, St Chamond, MSC, Vextra 105.
Honorable mention to the Mirage 5BA.
I’m not much of a math guy, but that’s 12 vehicles.
& when Gaijin is focusing on naval now, that’s only slightly behind at worst the average of ~22 vehicles per tech tree per year total when including naval vehicles & sub-tree vehicles.
@Bergebis
My post stated MBTs, of which M55 is not.
M55 also makes for a great unique 4.0 French lineup.
Also “functionally unique” makes Leclerc a copy-paste of M1A1, and is thus a garbage definition.
