Duplicate Vehicles: Why We Add Them

The unique part of tech trees are the lineups you can create with them.
Ground isn’t a one spawn game mode.

All French vehicles will get added in-time.

As France gets no new French vehicles for how many updates now?

1, one update.
2 with no ground/air, but 1 with no French.

4 total French vehicles (ground/air) since Seek and Destroy in June of 24’ with only the 1st Rafale and the Jag being unique vehicles.

This is omitting the M55, which is copy-paste

And I would argue it’s quite a stretch to argue that the 2a5nl and 2a6nl are functionally unique, and in fact I’d argue most players would argue so.

Finally, the Leo 1a5BE, especially without it’s MECAR ammo, is not meaningfully unique from the Leopard 1a5’s either (I guess it has less armor, so there’s that)

It could’ve been one of the most interesting F-16s in game, but they ruined it with very avoidable mistakes.

If they wamted F-16 with AMRAAM they should’ve just added the eMLU.

That isn’t really the vehicles fault, only Gaijins for nod modelling it right, it really should have MECAR ammo. At least the visual model is already unique, but it would be nice if they gave it more unique function too.

Thinking about it, I do hope with “duplicate/C&P/varints” etc. devblogs more detailed explanation that they claim they will be doing.

They also talk about historical justification, stuff about how a vehicle is the last of its type in service (like how the 1A5BE is the last MBT used by Belgium), so it has as much of a place as the “unique” one-off and private prototype.

It’s sad watching those reject MBTs and Aircraft, which are key parts of a line-up for the sub-nation, because the host already has jets and MBTs.

The issue is that’s usually the best gaijin does. It’s rare to make actually unique variations. and even with the round it should still be in a German 1A5 folder

War Thunder is primarily a naval, ground, and air game, but I’ll list air and ground…
Air and ground French service/made vehicles since June 2024:
Rafale, EBRC, SAMPT x2, AMD35, VBCI, Rafale C, Mirage 2000D-RMV, M46, St Chamond, MSC, Vextra 105.

Honorable mention to the Mirage 5BA.
I’m not much of a math guy, but that’s 12 vehicles.
& when Gaijin is focusing on naval now, that’s only slightly behind at worst the average of ~22 vehicles per tech tree per year total when including naval vehicles & sub-tree vehicles.

@Bergebis
My post stated MBTs, of which M55 is not.
M55 also makes for a great unique 4.0 French lineup.

Also “functionally unique” makes Leclerc a copy-paste of M1A1, and is thus a garbage definition.

NEVER!

Gaijin’s wanting a vehicle at X BR strikes again.

90%, it was given German ammo on purpose to stay at 9.3. So many vehicles are missing ammo, it used or has ammo it operator never had just because Gaijin wants it at a BR.

Despite one of the best ways for “duplicates” to have unique things between them is having the ammo/ordnance selection be what the operator used on it.

Ahh, I see i was reading the posts wrong.

to that “unique” 4.0 lineup. how can it be unique when other TT’s have the same vehicle? that could have Easily been a French howitzer that is almost certain they aren’t getting now that that the M55 is in game.

Also calling the Leclerc a copy past M1A1 is a choice I guess. I wouldn’t call it a good one at all.

If you think the Leclerc is as similar to the m1a1 as the 2a5NL is the the 2a5, then you’re simply not arguing in good faith

You also referenced the CV9035, which left only one Benelux ground vehicle out

Cause other tech trees don’t have the vehicles of that lineup.
There’s no ARL-44, AMX-13-24, etc.

Then we agree.

@Bergebis
Everyone claiming gameplay defines copy-paste is claiming Leclerc is copy-paste of M1A1.
There’s a reason I don’t define copy-paste personally & instead use professional definitions.

That wasn’t agreeing with you and if you meant that as a gotcha that was a reach and a half.

Also the other vehicles are unique the M55 is not. which is a determent to the uniqueness of the lineup. as you know it isn’t unique.

And that’s not what people are claiming.

  1. Copy-Paste is a new instance of a vehicle in game that’s so functionally identical (i.e. 2a5nl vs 2a5 or US M55 vs Benelux M55) that they’re effectively the same

  2. Redundancy is when a vehicle isn’t needed because a domestic option serves a similar purpose and BR range (i.e. M44 vs Lorraine 155 MLE 50 or 51)

If we’re using we take your professional definitions to it’s logical endpoint then the first 400 or so M4A4’s are distinct and unique from those that followed because they lacked a second turret antenna bracket.

That’s not what you* are claiming.
You speak for yourself, not others.
I have seen others define it based on gameplay or functionality, which leads to the Lecerc-M1A1 comparison since their gameplay & functionality is 95% similar.

I wasn’t claiming you defined it that way, I was just warning not to sway from official definitions cause things get weird fast.

I apologize if my posts made it seem like I was accusing you of something, because I was not. [At least when typing the statements.]
So if something sounds accusatory, my mistake.

Can you point to these ‘others’? You are the only person I have ever seen claim this absolutely wild take.

Well, almost everything in this post is BS you guys didn’t want to put some effort in the most urgent things? like bombers models, gamemodes, premiums at top tier, etc. Or you gonna make a video of Q&A and treating your community as a bunch of fool people that doesn’t know anything like you did in your last?
