They do but also the O-I doesn’t have much information about it to support a addition lol as of now unless there’s more information it’s impossible 🤷♀️
Thats a fair point, I would not want Gaijin adding vehicles that they have to do, too much guess work on. I dont want another WOT.
The O-I documents are held by Finemolds in japan, the O-I in WOT is actually accurate because back in the day when wargaming added it, they WENT TO FINEMOLDS to see the documents firsthand and based their O-Is on those documents, all of their O-Is are historically accurate, this was way back in the day when WOT also didnt have crazy paper vehicles.

Smin has stated the O-I cannot come due to lack of information as recently as last month. See the second quoted statement from Smin at the beginning of this thread. Smin’s replies elsewhere in that thread (about the removal of the Ho-Ri’s from the tree) are also worth reading.
Further, Smin has stated himself that a vehicle suggestion being passed for consideration does not necessarily mean the vehicle is able to be added. See quote from Smin below:
Thus, the O-I is absolutely not coming this year at the very least, and can only come later if new information comes to light.
Rather, if Japan is indeed getting this year’s DCT vehicle, then I’m 99% certain it’s the Ki-64, as it’s the only other Japanese prototype that comes anywhere close to the O-I in terms of popularity, and it itself is more popular than any other viable option by a decent margin. It’s a long-time request by Japan players dating back to over ten years ago, and it certainly qualifies for implementation to the game (prototype built (and flown), with surviving photographs).

Probably not next update, but rather the December update instead, as that’s usually the biggest update of the year. That, or sometime next year.

Well they certainly have no issues giving out multiple squadron vehicles to certain nations while some still yet have to recieve their first (in regards to squadron aircraft, russia with both Su-33 and MiG-29M while Italy has none).
See, circling back to my gimmick statement, what exactly would be the gimmick of Ki-64? Double engine layout is, as previously estabilished, present in game already and beyond being able to limp back to airfield in case one engine does get taken out, its not as gimmicky as, say, XF5U-1, which is all about turning and stalling. Same with the cooling system, I doubt beyond sim or dedicated people that play props with MEC it would affect gameplay at all. XF5U-1 has relatively unique playstyle that relies on outstalling people. It is nowhere near meta playstyle and will get you killed 99% of the time, but the plane excells at it, hence the gimmick.

Same with TOG II (more on that lower) and Sturmtiger, which is all about playing the tank equivalent of sawed-off double barrel shotgun and letting both barrels rip into enemy point blank. KV-7 as well, since Id be hardpressed to find other casemate with 3 front facing guns (tho idea of fictional threebarreled jagdtiger does sound mad funny).

Well its hard to argue about specifics of such vague concept without hard data but id argue one does jot neccesarily exclude the other. Popularity and being iconic while remaining alien can all apply at once as conditions as DCT vehicle.

By your own accounts XF5U was less requested yet we have it in game, but not Ki-64.
Its gimmick comes from the fact the most effective way to play it is to reverse into battle since it has same reverse speed as forward speed, coupled with the fact that it puts entire engine between “frontal” plate and crew. The length also makes it effective in reverse sidescrape situation.
Would Ki-64 gimmicks affect its gameplay similiarly?
TOG II clocks short of 30k battles for last month.
Churchill VII clocks 120k and Tiger H1 clocks 1.2 mil., to put things into perspective.
It performs well, no denying that, but Id certainly expect for meta vehicle to be played more than just 30k battles.
Sturmtiger, vehicle undeniably more gimmicky, clocks 57k games for the last month.
True, however TOG with its length, armor layout (flat sides without the sponsons, no commander coupola) and module placement is extremely good at it, better than IS tanks id argue.
Similiarly to XF5U - there might be more planes than can play into “can i outstall my enemy” strat, but X5FU does it extremely well.
