Draft: Change AAA for low tier ARB

So I think that a lot of people are sick of unrealistic AAA randomly damaging without any real hits. And the AAA is overly strong, meaning some people take advantage of this. I have a suggestion to implement realistic AAA for low tier (Ranks I-IV), for some nations.

My Idea:

So for each nations that have planes (all nations I guess), we can have unique SPAA/AAA that guard the safe zones for repairing and rearming.

USA:

Ranks I-II:
We can have the M13/m16 as light SPAAs that defend the airfields. These high volume AAs are typically deadly against fighters that normally try to attack the airfield, but also not as OP as the AAA we have now, as to discourage campings.

Ranks III-IV:
We can have the Skink and the M19/M42’s with 20mms and 40mms to shred pretty much everyhing that comes near 3 kilometers. The Skink is pretty durable too, being able to withstand multiple hits before going down.

Germany:

Ranks I-II:
We can have the Flakpanzer I or the Flakpanzer 38(t) for the first AA’s or the Sd. Kfz. 6/2 with the deadly 3,7 cm cannon. These can get effective as soon as a bird comes within 2-3 kilometers, and protect the field till it goes down—with the enemy.

Ranks III-IV:
The Flak 37 can be a good AAA, or the Flakbus itself. The timed fuse is deadly if used properly, and can burn planes very easily even in a indirect hit. We can also have the Zestorer 45 or the Ostwind/Whirbelwinds as lighter backup SPAAs.

Russia:

Rank I-II:
We can have the GAZ-AAA with the 12.7mm gun or the 4M, but if that is not enough, we always have the 72K with the 25mm gun.

Ranks III-IV:
We can have the lethal BTR series with their powerful 14mm machine guns or the YaG-10(29-K), which can be used as a powerful Flak gun like the Flakbus.

Japan:

Ranks I-II:
We’ll add the Type 94 or the better protected Ta-Se, with their powerful 20mm guns that can shred. The So-Ki or the M16(Japan) can be used nicely tooo.

Ranks III-IV:

We can have the M42/19A1, and maybe throw the SUB I-II for the sake of variety!

That’s my suggestions for now—I will add more later. (France and China will not be added since their AAs are mostly from the US post-war).

I’m supportive of strong airfield AA overall (especially at top tier where it is almost useless). Low tier flak, however, is too strong, it creates an impenetrable hemisphere of death with no chance to attack the enemy, so it should certainly be nerfed.

…players which ruin the Air RB game play experience of others by clueless game play or unprovoked and fully intended team killing of friendlies.

You idea is not really bad (it has some flaws based on your lack of experience) but i wanted to get an impression of your play style and checked a random Air RB replay with your participation (replay link) in order to assess if it is worth my time and energy in order to give you a constructive feedback to optimize your thread.

My impression was not really good - you felt the need to teamkill a totally innocent team mate in an F4F (02:38) and died after more or less brainless ground pounding.

Therefore just short and sweat:

  1. You have to create a suggestion - a discussion thread / poll is useless
  2. Af aaa at prop BRs is not nation based - so no need to separate it by nations
  3. The main issue is the so called hitscan aaa - and not the type of aaa
  4. Most shells of 30mm SPAAs or lower de-render at certain distances (some even below 2 km) whilst a lot of SPAAs have severe tracking firing angles issues.

In other words:

Your proposal is not dealing with the main topic: Hitscan aaa

I believe taking the AAA model used in Air SB for the Aircraft carriers (at least the Allied carrier on Tunisia for EC3/EC4) would serve as a fairly balanced implementation of airfield defences.

It has limited range, it uses real/simulated shells rather than hitscan projectiles and it can be outplayed by approaching at the correct angle (albeit this may be difficult to replicate with a immobile airfield given the carrier moves and turns to always present a new angle that must be discovered) with appropriate speed.

However, if you just loiter near it slow and low rather than go for an attack run it will slap you out of the air like no tomorrow, providing protection against people trying to spawnkill people who are in process of take off while preventing abuse by staying near it (through a combination of much more limited range and having to physically track the target).

Pictured: Black dot bobbing and weaving as it prepares for a dive bombing assault and the tracers clearly show the AAA guns struggling to track it at what is presumably 2km altitude:

The picture further demonstrates how each spray of tracers is a unique gun as they are shooting in an unsynchronized manner (presumably to try and shoot the dive bomber’s escorts).

I find aircraft carrier AAA quite fair to engage and fight in SB. Presumably it should feel the same in RB.

Oh, that. Yeah I misclicked Youtube and oh well, the cursor was in WT so yeah i was like “why is this vid not pausing ahhhh”. Then i came back and i was ‘oh crap’.
