Does anyone else play subsonic attackers in ARB

Since the lowering of BR of several subsonic planes, I have been having fun with them. They are not good planes, but they can be quite funny.

With Su-39 with 2x R-60M and 2x R-73 and 2x gunpods and the radar pod
And AMX A-1A with 2x piranha

These planes unlike A-10, have at least near transonic speed.

Do you guys have any fun plane/combo recommendations and specific playstyle for them?

I plan to play them in a dogfighting role because they are too slow and attacking ground targets is too risky (until after the first wave)

Also does Vikhr actually work against ARB planes with the radar lock (which also guides the laser)? I like it in other video games where they act as AA missiles, but I doubt i can do it here lol.

Subsonic attacker jets are basically worthless planes in ARB

because

  1. We can’t win at all by killing ground targets unless the enemy camps at the airfield
  2. The majority of them are inferior in dogfighting compared to either supersonic/subsonic fighters.
  3. They are generally overrated thanks to heavy ground ordnances.

I partially agree about this part, though.

Try Ayit, spam AIM-9D at the enemy.
And some subsonic attackers with good missiles are maybe good enough to play.
Example: Harriers with AIM-9G

Those R-73 is a pure deadly monster in top tier already… you’re able to see it at 10.3 very very deadly.

Yes. Many are among the best aircraft for their BR.
A-10, Su-25, Ayit, A-4H, especially AMX. AMX is probably the best 10.7 I’ve played in years.

Those ones especially are great at dogfighting.

They aren’t… that’s ground RB BRs, not air RB BRs, they separated them a while ago.

I mean i have fun with them.

The one which they f-ed up and are not using properly?

Quite a lot of subsonic attackers are overrated compared to their fighter counterparts (which are generally undertiered instead)

Especially these Buccs and Corsair II do

F-84F is already 8.3.
All the Buccaneers are correctly above the Canberra in BRs, especially the vastly superior S2s. Obviously correctly BR’d.
Jags are already 10.7 where they belong.
A-7s are better AV-8s and their BRs represent that.

While the F-86F-25/35, which is better in every aspect, stays the same BR?

I disagree about this until Bucc gets an attacker air spawn.

Canberras are acts better than bucc thanks to the air spawn advantage, which is drastic.
If both had air spawn, or neither did, then maybe your points stand.

I showed three pictures of Jags
Jaguar GR.1 in 9.7
Jaguar GR.1A and Jaguar A at 10.7

None of these are maintaining 10.3BR in ARB.
Look up, this topic is mainly about ARB. Did you see BR in GRB instead?

About A-7D/E, those may be better than AV-8A/C, still if we consider fighter jets in that BR radius (MiG-21SMT, F-5C) or another attacker jets (Su-25, SHAR FRS.1, Bucc S.2B which is also bad but I didn’t mention thanks to AIM-9L that makes it barely tightroping in 10.7BR.)

Ah, and A-7K (the last pic) is maintaining the same 11.3BR along with AV-8B(NA) or Harrier T.10, which are based on Harrier II platform, and Harrier II has twice the amount of 9L.

A-7 are generally one of the worst overrated jets in War Thunder.

BTW, further arguing about this will be terrible derailment if we consider OP was asking ‘anyone else plays subsonic attackers? if you are, suggest your best one’.
We need to just agree to disagree.
Shall we?

Well I think the 9.7 attackers are best.

Not because of their flight performance but their BR where they get two aim-9g against flareless planes. Aim-9G is long ranged, good agaisnt f-104 and sometimes even f4

I have a tailsmanned GR.3 that I use for bombing with one spare Aim-9G. absolutely hilarous.

Only MiG-19 and Arietes can dodge them in high energy moments.

Why do you use only one AIM-9G in Harrier GR.3?

I never bombed with Harrier GR.3 and dislike bombing in it because I believe that gaining altitude makes sniping with AIM-9G a lot easier than maintaining low altitude for base bombing.

But I know that you only need five to take a single base.
Two AIM-9Gs and five Mk 13s are better than your loadout.

FYI, you can also mount a bomb in the pylon behind the landing gear.

Extra 540lb bomb in outer wing pylon do nothing about your journey to base bombing but decreases reward multiplier.

Thanks m8. Didn’t knew that lol. I was always missing one bomb so I thought you needed 5000+lbs.

I never really have a strategy with the harrier. The only thing going for it, airframe wise is its stupid high thrust. I know some squadron guys manipulate the variable nozzles to make it turn faster but I’m too lazy to do so.

I just seek out whatever flareless planes I can find, like f 100, f 104, f 105, mirage and other early jets lol. by the time I’m done bombing (if I make it alive) they’re probably not having very high energy
