Title. I figured I’d ask since we’re officially in the deep end regarding modern aircraft capability.
At best, it performs like the F-14 IRIAF where it gets kills sometimes, but not all the time.
At worst, it has only 4 (proper) BVR missiles of similar/better performance than Fakour-90 on a platform that’s basically barely supersonic whilst retaining AMRAAM for closer engagements much more suited for its airframe.
And hidden side benefit… it actually belongs in 14.3 and is future-proofed for any further BR decompression where it’s pushed up in this form.
TL;DR of replies
Most people hover around “yes, but…” and some outright “no” with a select few questioning how it would be implemented if we don’t know much about the AIM-174B itself and not just guesses around the RIM-174’s performance.
Again, this is a discussion. I’m not suggesting it (I’d have used the proper avenue for this), merely bringing it up in a public discourse fashion (again). I’m merely reposting this as it’s become known that the Super Hornet is moving up in BR with everything else that should be moved up.
If you’re not a suggestions forum tourist/resident, you can explore this topic where it remains a possibility to introduce next-gen BVR missiles in an event before widespread addition to the game, which includes the AIM-174B.
Gaijin modeling dual plane agility would be more than enough.
F-18E has missile count on its side still.
Is Gaijin planning to model this by the time the BR changes go live?
Missile count… when the majority of your missiles are AIM-120 or God forbid, AIM-9M
So it’s practically okay for people to ask for a newer missile for US mains but when I ask for a Meteor it’s instantly a no… feels like most players dickride USA too much
Meteors are a different world entirely. False equivalence.

That’s coming eventually. Eurofighters and especially Rafale will be twice as if not more troublesome to face when they’re added. You cannot look at the new BR changes and not at least have a raised eyebrow at the F/A-18E moving up with everything else.
To recap, the F/A-18E is only really different in slightly more CAS options, an AESA radar similar in performance to the F-15C GE’s, a new loadout option of 14 AIM-9M, slightly worse flight performance than legacy Hornet, etc.
In essence, if in a future implementation Gaijin adds the AIM-174B to the Super Hornet first for a while it would essentially be what the F-14s were to everyone else before everyone else received ARH missiles with better performance. I’m not saying that this is what could happen, just that it’s a possibility (even if slim to no chance of happening)

Nah. The hornets just need to be added 1-2 years ago.

It’s not restricted to a specific Block, as it’s being rolled out to all SH’s in fleet.
Unless, of course, you fancy/like the idea of having to grind for yet another SH worth 420,000+ RP just for a new missile?
The Super Hornet is the only one capable of using it. I agree the legacy Hornets should’ve been added way earlier though.
I only want it to be lowered to 14.3 again. F-15C ge is better then it and should be moved to 14.7 instead of this. As for AIM-174B, it should only get it once other nation get their next gen ARH missile

I agree with most of this, however at that point (especially if the BR placement remains the same) it’ll be surrounded by giants in every sense of the word and we’re back at F-14B surrounded by AIM-120 carriers kind of situation again. Don’t get me wrong – the AIM-174B should be able to hang with the best of them (bar maybe the R-37?) however as usual the air frame is what limits it at the end of the day.
Also, the F15C GE being better than something is wild to hear lol
