Do you dodge 9B (and other early missiles) by Gimbal limit or outmaneuvering

As far as I know, the 9B seeker is stuck in its own mount, even when fired (9D goes uncaged afterwards I think)

I wonder when you dodge a 9B and other early missiles, what is the common mechanism of evasion for it? Do you simply go out of the FOV of the missile or do you outmaneuver the missile altogether?

Because while 9B is unmanuverable, at 10G, I dont think you’re defeating it kinetically “Just Turn” as 10G is sort of very extreme maneuver for a pilot, not in game maybe but still, but defeating the seeker itself.

If my theory is correct, 9E should be harder to evade.

I also wonder if evading the missile FOV, is simulated in game?

What is your most common way of evading, kinetic wise?

I dont play air, but I would simply tell the missile, respectfully, that I do not consent to being hit.

Seekers have bandwidth and FoV and both are relevant for evasion. If you look inside replay mode (server replay, not local, as local often mismatches reality/desyncs) you can see the missile FoV during launches.

Defyn provides a very detailed description of how IR missiles work in WT.

Major approximation WT makes is that it doesn’t model exhaust heat, just correlates thrust with IR signature leading to certain aircraft being far colder than they should be, and others being far hotter than should be.

First, the faster you go, the more Gs you pull to turn the same amount. The missile is faster than you so it needs to pull more Gs to pull with you.

Second, you dont have to pull in one direction. I always do a barrel roll as it helps bleed the missile’s energy and make it harder for it keep up with my direction changes.

The aim9E is only harder to evade for two reasons.
1: it is much faster so you have less time to react.
2: it has can gimbal pre-launch which allows the enemy to lead you.

What plane are you using to bomb with this time? Because evasion against 9B depends on the aircraft you use

2 We don’t really have gimbal limits ingame, mw even 9b is buffed with the capability to turn it’s seeker: the game UI just shows a caged mode.

3 To dodge a 10g msl one don’t need 10g pulling

4 Ingame 9E can pull ~15-18g with speed

Turn slightly to the side.

You can defeat a 9B kinetically (so outrun it) but a lot of the early jets facing it lack afterburner so pretty much the only way to kinetically defeat it is if its been released at longer range.
In general, its much more simpler to just pitch up or to the side, as a hard turn will generally make the missile fail.
Sidewinders pre-9Js are kinda only good at killing targets flying in a straight line.

9E and 9B are the same thing, only difference is that E has an uncaged seeker meaning you can pre-lead the missile giving it slightly better chance of hitting, tho it is still poor due to the control surfaces only being able to support 10Gs of maximum overload.
You can dodge an E the same way youd dodge a B

Turn left, missile dies. (terms apply)

Must have sufficient speed.
Must have awareness.
Must not hit mountain.
Must not be loaded down with lots of bombs.
Be ready for a second missile if your aircraft loses a lot of speed or you are moving slowly.
