Do people keep grinding or do they find a happy Rank and stay there?

Just wondering if people play WT so one day they might get to the top rank battles?
I know another popular tank game where the idea has always been to grind to tier 10 then start another tree.

Yet I hit Rank 4 USA years ago and Rank 5 British 5+ years ago and happily stayed there. The tanks are enjoyable enough, CAS are still lethal and OP but at least guided missiles and smart bombs are rare.

I’ve researched up to rank 7 for both nations but have never bought a rank 7 tank.

A friend I play with started WT Ground Forces the week it came out but has only ever played rank 3 German and Soviet as he likes the historical WW2 stuff.

I also find the lower rank stuff more enjoyable and less stressful.

I came to warthunder for propeller aircraft on aircraft carriers.

I diversified to other prop aircraft and jets on aircraft carriers.

That satisfies me.

ive gotten US, and RU to top tier, and finishing up Germany. Its made my want to quit the game multiple times and the grinds is so tedious. Also did get Premiums to grind out the trees for RU and Germany so that could add to the frustration of playing the same br over and over again. In any case, dont find it fun to do anymore so i dont play nearly as much as i use to because i start getting aggravated on the extreme slow process to finish off the ranks

While I have Russia Japan and UK top tier I don’t play them, I sit underneath 7.0 usually, dogfighting in energy fighters is my favourite. I love coming out on top when I shouldn’t

i reached top tier in Japan.

Im slowly getting to top tier in a few other nations, USA, France are the closest.

I play top tier when I feel like it, or when friends are playing. But when playing by myself I generally find myself gravitating back to WW2 BRs, both tanks and prop aircraft. I definitely find the most casual enjoyment of the game in the ~4.0-6.7 range.

When talking about that other game. Back when I played WoT I played mostly tier 9 and 10 there for the same reason, I found most enjoyment at those tiers. Though back when I played that game I was hyper competitive, much more than I am these days. (And that was a much more competitive game im general than War thunder is)

In customs, I usually hang out at top tiers just because it’s hilarious what you can do up there. Like my friends and I will use our top tier jets to fight each other while two of our friends spam Pantsirs at us. The kicker? Night maps in Sim.

If I actually play Pubs, I’m usually having fun at 4.0-6.7, depending on the country.

specific BRs not really.

Specific vehicles yes absolutely.

for me its Centurions, Cromwells, Harriers and spitfires.

WW2 stuff for me, no highter than 7.0. Unlocked my Maus with the Jagdpanzer IV, then the Leo and eventually the Leo 2. But I mainly stay this low because the maps are too small at rank III already, imo. I’ve seen streams with people playing 10+ and they play on the same maps. No thanks.

I’ve grinded all the way up to 10.3 GBR, but that hasn’t stopped me from frequently dropping down to 4.7 or 2.3 (WWII enjoyer) or having some fun in 6.3. I mean personally I intend to finish the tree, but there’s at least a few vehicles in each tier I’ve had a blast playing

Personally, the way I do it is to grind with vehicles I enjoy.

For example, my JP grind has been carried by the SB2C, alongside my German grind being carried by the Tiger H1 and Bf-109 F-4

I grinded US first and I used a prem for it, initially the A-10A but later the F-4S and dear lord please believe me when I say playing those planes over and over again made me genuinely want to delete warthunder and get rid of my entire setup

I personally grind for things I want to drive/fly, like my JP grind is intended for the R2Y2 (which, I started Sunday and I am within spitting distance) and eventually the F-15J, as opposed to “I need to get the Thai Gripen so I can go play top tier”

^That was a whole nothing sandwich of words

I am an ACE OF SPADES player myself. As soon as I spade something, I move on.

I have a special appreciation for aircraft after the 70’s because they were the first ones I came across in books more than 20 years ago (MiG-21, MiG-23, Sukhois, F-16…). So, while I find WWII planes fun, the early jets are just completely boring to me. I enjoy the game much more from BR 9.0 and up, which is why I pushed to reach Top Tier in several nations, to explore the aircraft I actually like.

In short, I’m now working on my sixth nation in ARB, and as for GRB, I only recently started getting into it, but I also want to reach Top Tier there. Playing with what feels like a cart with a cannon strapped on top just isn’t my idea of fun.

I was about to write an essay here, but i think you covered me completely.
I had my share of playing WW2 props (i play from 2013) and i still find them fun , though i don’t have much time and the matches at that tier if you want to play well are lengthy .
I’m more interested in jets after 60’s to be exact, Vietnam War and then , because many of them were still in use while i was growing up and i’ve seen them in RL as well .
And for a weird reason i don’t care about Korean Era jets. BUT , maybe it’s the bad MM for them.

not really. if i want to 17pdr things I use the black prince

Personally I finish a entire tech tree, specifically ground tech tree or the helicopter tech tree, then I look for a vehicle to play.

In my case, my last ground tech tree to fully research it was the Japanese. Initially my main objective was battle rating 11.3 with vehicles like the Type 10 Prototype, very versatile machines,

Now, with everything eventually researched, I usually keep at battle rating 4.0 with the M44 SPG and A6M3 as anti-air, also battle rating 9.0, in my opinion the most diverse in Japanese tech tree or even battle rating 11.3 if I’m looking for exclusively Meta gaming.

In summary, I research everything (I must make the premium vehicle I bought worth) and then I go for the gameplay in different battle ratings, in this case, USSR I focus primarly in the battle rating 8.7 and battle rating 9.3 instead of battle rating 12.7.

I just grind for the vehicles I like and stay with them, no matter the BR. However I do avoid playing 8.3-8.7+ so I just sit below there with vehicles I like.

Its hard to accept the ever increasing “research” penalty and inefficacies as you get further and further away from the leading edge of the tree from any particular vehicle.
The Snail will have you grind even if you don’t want to.

My happy rank is top rank :)
