Discussion: BR balance between French F-16 and MiG-29 (9-12)

I’ve been looking at the current balance and something doesn’t add up. The French F-16 sits at 12.7 BR while carrying AIM-9M and Magic 2 missiles. That gives it only short-range IR options — no radar missiles — yet it is considered balanced at this level.

Meanwhile, the MiG-29 (9-12) is restricted and not allowed to use its 6 R-73s at the same BR. This doesn’t make sense. The R-73 is a strong missile, but so is the AIM-9M, and both are of a similar generation with comparable performance in many situations (all-aspect IR seekers, good flare resistance, decent off-boresight). On top of that, the F-16 platform has advantages of its own: better radar, better sustained energy retention, and more versatile avionics.

If Gaijin considers AIM-9M + Magic 2 enough for 12.7 on the F-16, then the MiG-29 with R-73s should also be acceptable at the same BR. Otherwise, this creates an inconsistency where NATO aircraft are allowed stronger loadouts for the same BR while Soviet aircraft are held back.

Either the MiG-29 should get access to its historical R-73s at 12.7, or the French F-16 should be adjusted accordingly. Right now it feels unbalanced and unfair.

While I do agree the MiG-29 should get R-73s, you suggest it should do so while maintaining R-27ERs. This would make it simply overpowered at 12.7. I also agree the F-16 here is obviously undertiered and should be 13.0.

The rest of my comment is breaking down your flawed comparison:

Better radar that doesn’t matter because it doesn’t have radar missiles. This would help you marginally in sim and that’s it.

The only thing you can be referring to here is RWR and “more versatile” isn’t really correct. The F-16’s RWR is better, but that’s the only part of the avionics that matters here besides radar.

This doesn’t make sense. The MiG-29 with R-73s and R-27ERs would just be strictly superior to the F-16 that is already considered overpowered for 12.7. The literal only thing the F-16 would have would be a better FM and RWR. Again, the F-16 is already overpowered.

Separate from my other post, I want to point out that the F-16 is the BR it is because gaijin is fully willing to intentionally undertier a paid vehicle (as the F-16 will be until a month+ from now) so that they can milk the wallet warriors who want to pay for an overpowered stomp vehicle. They will “fix” the F-16 when they have felt they have acquired “enough” of our money and therefore both cheat the people who paid for it ahead of time while also cheating anybody who wanted it f2p to play at the old BR. It will then be incredibly mediocre and never played again at 13.0.

This topic already exists countless times.
Also this post:

The only way Mig-29 gets R-73s at 12.7 is if 14 13.0s move down to 12.7, and most 12.7s move to 12.3.

or just idk remove the r27er

Removing the R-27ER would make it 12.3.
Adding R-73s would make it 13.0 unless you move 14 13.0s down to 12.7, and most 12.7s down to 12.3 for fairness and balance.

removing r27er, adding r73, means its 12.7

the new french 16 at 12.7 cant benefit from the magic 2s as much as a mig29 at 12.7 could benefit from r73s as it doesnt have an HMD unlike the mig29s

also 12.3 to 13.0 is super compressed which really doesnt help the situation

No, that means it’s 13.0 with 14 other aircraft equal to that loadout and capability.
One vehicle out of ~15 is an exception to the rule, not the rule itself.

14 13.0s would have to move down to 12.7 with such a Mig-29.
And I’m not about to support actual Russian bias just because people want an OP Russian plane.

Don’t think so.

A MiG29 with R73s would actually be a very good addition in sim even if It had to give up 27ER’s for them

is there anyone notice another F16A with access to AIM-9Ms? it’s tech-tree netherland f16a, with br 13.0.
the problem is, the new squadron vehicel, accessible to both magic-2 and aim-9m, is 12.7. this makes no sense.

its just p2w

The squadron F-16A will go to 13.0 like its worse TT sibling after most people who want early access to it pay gaijin.

The jet is clearly unbalanced and it doesn’t serve as justification to create another unbalanced jet at 12.7

A mig-29 with R-73 and R-27ER already exists at 13.0
A mig 29 with R-73 and R-27R would be 13.0 anyway
A mig 29 with R-73 and no radar missiles would also be 13.0 anyway because it would be clearly better than any TT 12.7

Unfortunately 13.0 is the most compressed BR there is, so I really hope we dont send the 12.7 mig29s up there before solving that issue
