[Discussion] Balance, Bias, Matchmaking and Battle Ratings

as long as it doesnt help ur situation people dont care, try proving 6 other nations that germany needs an actual decent vehicle at a decent tier

who tf would approve of “yh yh germany needs this fixed”

read my name, slowly, out loud if need be

germany 6.7 is one of if not the strongest 6.7 lineup in the game, germany 8.0 is also very strong. Germany is consistently strong in ground.

that clearly explains how it has the lowest winrate 6.3 through 8.3, along with sweden

while the so called “garbage” IS tanks enjoy 60%+ win rate

I’ve played the tanks, I’m basing what I say off the tanks. I am not basing it off the playerbase.

I never called anything garbage.

what playerbase? look at the charts

I’ve played the tanks.

The strongest 6.7 lineup is the US one and it’s not even close.

Germany has the 2nd best one imo.

I consider the german one, especially if premiums are included and/or old removed tanks, to be at least as strong.

Lowest win rate…thats just Germany. Y’all are terrible but put you in a Leopard 2A7 and you all become these pro players.

If you cant make the great Tiger 2 work at 6.7 that is a skill issue

nah man theres multiple tanks in there that really cant be up-brd

Does anyone else think that the Mig-23BN is overtiered/bad?

To me, it just seems quite bad for 9.7. Despite being a Mig-23, it isn’t that fast, and it has awful flight performance in a fight. It also lacks any sort of defence against missiles, and it loses all of it’s speed the moment it turns.

I just don’t understand why so many people rate it so highly.

They shouldn’t, especially you as I know you are a large decompression advocate.

This part can be true though. It is too good at certain things to be lower but the airframe feels so rigid and the weapons offered are rudimentary.

is there a list of vehicles with better versions of themselves at the same br

No but I’ll give you a run down of the ones I can think of off the top of my head for 13.0-14.0 ARB

13.0: The F-15J is ever so slightly better than the F-15A/BAZ

13.7: The F-15J(M) is slightly better than the F-15C/Baz Meshupar

13.7: The Su-27SM is much superior in every metric to the J-11A except for MAWS

13.7: The SAAF Gripen is worse than the Hungarian, Swedish and Thai ones

13.7: The Thai F-16OCU is worse than the Belgian one, which is worse than the F-16C. Triple punch.

14.0: The F-15I is slightly better than the F-15E due to CM count

14.0: The British and Italian EF are slightly better than the German one due to the German one lacking IRST

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head for top tier, theres probably some others I can’t remember. There’s also quite a few more everywhere.

Observations from a casual player for the last few years:

  1. Bushes are cheats. A purchased advantage = cheat. Yes I can afford them, but not everyone can, and to have a clear advantage that you paid for lacks integrity. I know Gaijin sells them, but let’s be honest, they probably sell all the cheats. It is really embarrassing that so many are willing to run cheats that everyone can see with no conscience. It used to be at just higher brs, but now they are everywhere. And yes I do believe if you run cheats we can see, you are running ones we can’t as well.

  2. I have never heard a good player say ‘skill issue’. There are serious issues with the game, and someone pointing them out doesn’t have a skill issue, they probably have an issue with the parts of the game that make skill less relevant (uptiers are a great example)

  3. There is a bias when you play well. When I first started I got a lot of downtiers. Thought I was the man. As I have improved at the game my uptier percentage is no less than 75%, many days it is 100%. I have tested different brs, different countries, etc. It simply is a fact. But should it be? I don’t play top tiers because I have no interest in running the cheats that are used there. At lower tiers the uptier makes a bigger difference. Turret speed and stabilizers are drastic for example. It probably has been discussed often, but why isn’t there something in the algorithm that takes the number of uptiers in your last 10 matches into account? I would prefer to lose the up and downtiers all together, but that would eliminate too many weaker players who need to downtier to compete. And if the tiers are simply to handicap good players and enable weaker players, just say so.

  4. All that said, it is still one of the best games out there. Overall the game play is really good, and outside of weak matchmaking and the enabling of cheats there really aren’t any other glaring weaknesses.

Bruh what 💀

in wart thunder for simulated players the dropping of “laser” GBUs is quite delicate, in cockpit view, we are missing the audible signal or HUD indication of dropping the “laser” GBUs. Currently in simulated cockpit view, for a hit on target you have to be about 5 to 3 kilometers away + a 45 degree nose down angle for the GBU laser to detect the laser while in reality the CCIP helps us to make shots at more 10,000 meters easy

with smooth bombs we have the CCRP system which will drop the bomb at the right time even if we have the bomb release button held all the way, we could all simply have the same system with the GBUs as the designation pod places CCRP points to place the laser

maximum support will be a pleasure and do not hesitate to provide further information in this report !

I know Gaijin uses statistics to determine BR.
I am pretty sure Gaijin has some pretty wide tolerances in those statistics, meaning a 5-10% difference is most likely not enough to change a BR and a 20% difference might not be either depending on some sanity checking of vehicle capabilities.

All of that being said it is easy to infer that they do not account for skill when determining BR. That is to say they use raw statistics and do not adjust based on the type of people playing the vehicle. E.G. the Tiger II H is 5.7 and the M4A3E2 is 5.7 when the Tiger is objectively and meaningfully better in almost every way.

This can only be explained by the lack of experience of those who play certain vehicles. It is broadly understood that certain types of vehicles attract more newer players and other types of vehicles attract more seasoned players.

This creates a feedback loop where more obscure nations get unfair BR’s which mean fewer new players play the vehicles which leads to the limited stats for the vehicle to be experienced players which keeps the BR artificially high.

All of this is just a longwinded way of saying that Gaijin should only use stats for vehicles played by level 100 players. Meaning the stats for determing a vehicles BR should only be taken from the performance of that vehicle in the hands of a level 100 player.

There are enough in the game to give meaningful stats.

Another method would be to weigh the stats. For example take all stats and weight them by the experience level of the person playing the vehicle. A low level players stats would have less value than a high level player.

Either way, I do not agree with their current philosophy of just letting nuanced and experienced players getting punished for doing well.

This is not true.
Jumbo has better gun handling, gun depression and reload speed. It also has a vertical stabilizer which will also help for sure.

I’m probably a very good example of why this would be flawed as well.
Like 98% of my games were played with ground vehicles only, so my experience using air is extremely limited. I’m a level 100 player, but in fact my air experience is like of someone that’s level 20ish that played aircraft only.

Giving my aircraft “feedback” the maximum value isn’t optimal for reasons I mentioned above.
