Hello everyone,
I want to bring attention to an issue that affects many players in Simulator Battles — accidental teamkills caused by radar or missile system behavior, rather than intentional actions.
As a long-time sim pilot with hundreds of hours of flight time and multiple nations unlocked up to rank VI, I’ve come across numerous cases where players (including myself) were punished for what were clearly unintentional incidents.
Let me explain the problem more clearly:
In Sim battles, there is no HUD marking for allies, and players have to rely heavily on radar systems, visual confirmation, or IFF (Identification Friend or Foe). However, due to game mechanics, this is not always reliable. Here are some examples:
- On certain aircraft like the Mirage F1C-200, radar systems can misidentify allies as hostiles. Even with TWS (Track-While-Scan) and IFF systems, the radar can “lock” on an ally, showing a hostile contact.
- AIM-7F missiles often veer off and hit friendly aircraft, even when the radar lock is on a confirmed enemy.
- FOX-3 missiles like the AIM-120 or R-77 can accidentally acquire and track friendly targets after launch due to their active radar guidance.
- In high-tier combat (BR 13+), the amount of clutter, speed, and radar noise makes it even harder to avoid such mistakes.
These are not “teamkills” in the traditional sense — they’re mechanical errors or limitations that lead to accidental friendly fire.
Currently, players can receive bans for repeated teamkills, even if they were clearly unintentional. This may be fair in Arcade or Realistic battles where teamkill is almost always deliberate, but in Sim, it’s much more nuanced.
I’m not suggesting to remove the 100,000 SL penalty or the auto-kick after two teamkills. These measures make sense to control gameplay in the moment. But permanent bans or longer suspensions for such incidents should be reviewed differently.
My suggestion:
- The game should implement or improve radar-based IFF functionality where available (many real aircraft had it).
- System should detect if a missile hits an ally due to active radar switching or misidentification, and flag it as an accidental friendly fire, not an intentional one.
- These incidents should not contribute to the report/ban system unless clearly abusive or repeated with no attempt to clarify in chat.
Why this matters:
Many Sim players already act cautiously and responsibly. When mistakes happen, we often apologize and explain them in chat. But we still risk getting suspended or even banned permanently. That discourages people from playing Sim mode altogether.
