Can someone help me understand exactly why a direct hit to the ammo with actual rounds in place doesn’t result in a death?
The greatest game mechanic of all, RNG.
Whats that?
Random number generator
How is that related to ammorack?
It’s random on if it’ll explode or not when hit.
Which is what random number generators do. Pick a random number between 1 and 100. If it’s below 50, it doesn’t explode to put it simply
Oh but some tanks allways explode on ammorack as far as im aware
Like the t80s
So its diffrent on every tank?
Probably, some tanks have ammo wetting which decreases the chance of an explosion. Others have ammo in spots which always explode. Just depends really.
Ok thx didnt know that i thought its just a bug
There is what Emma’s storage but that was not in that location for that tank. The rounds are actually in the yellow fuel tank and it would show that if it was in wet ammo storage
eh, probably every tank still has rng then. Even if it’s low that it’ll survive. That or russian bias but eh
Propellent part of the shell is one that ammo racks you. If you hit round itself probability of explosion is very low even on HE shells. Russian tanks have 2 part ammo on carousel loading system and thus higher probablity of hitting propellent part. But in the end its still random.
It’s tendency of T-62 (and other early Soviet MBT) fuel tank to protect the ammunition. It can also absorb the round altogether, which is apparent especially with low-penetration rounds. Since the ammunition is not tightly packed, often a direct hit is needed. They are stored in fuel (wet storage).
Also, consider that the diesel fuel tanks often explode to incapacitate the entire crew. So the RNG element is thus huge.
There is RNG but there is also a multipplier.
Some tanks have a multiplier as high as 50% (CR2) as an example.
T- series tanks used to always explode when hit in the carosel but that was bad for Russias image and Russian player base didnt like it so they reduced the chances and now it hardly ever reliably happens.
That’s completely false.
Would you like to bet and compare…We have datamines from the last year that showed CR2 ammo detonation was higher than a T-80BVM.
Every shot in the side would ammo rack a T series tank now that isnt always the case. Especially with the inclusion of an autoloader spall absorbing module.

What exactly did they say?
I seem to ammorack T-72s quite consistently.
The main reason why you don’t seem to is most likely confirmation bias, mixed with only hitting 1-2 ammo at one time. You will always notice it more on tanks where aiming for ammo is the best way to kill it, and you increase the chances of a failure when you only hit 1-2 pieces of ammo, rather than 5+.
Do you have any proof that isn’t from 2 years ago?
He doesnt. The “proof” he is referring to is a number datamined that people assume is the pure ammorack chance, but realistically could be effected by any other multiplier that cannot be datamined. And iirc the number was 0.5 for both the Challenger 2 and the T-series, not higher. This post puts it to bed really. https://www.reddit.com/r/Warthunder/comments/14hmwcn/a_final_conclusive_and_concise_explanation_of_top/
You are quite cleary missing the ammunition numerous times in that video (if that is your video).
Saying that ammo rarely explodes when being hit in the carousel is a big overexaggeration.
Just because you saw in the x-ray that the autoloader module has been hit, it doesn’t mean you actually hit any ammo.
