Today is the day I did something useful for WT Community by writing a C++ program that processes the units_weaponry.csv
file and renames the localizations of IDs specified in units_weaponry-rename.csv
.
You can find the resulting units_weaponry.csv
in: Release WT_DeRename v1.0 · Challanger524/WT_DeRename · GitHub
It may be outdated in the future, but I proposed to jaek898 (who made wt-localization with better vehicles names) to maintain this too, currently waiting for his answer.
The latest units_weaponry-rename.csv

Note: modifications names are unchanged.
Examples
Installation: Same as any other custom localization:
- enable custom localization
- launch game to generate
War Thunder/lang/
folder
- replace
War Thunder/lang/units_weaponry.csv
from github release

to eliminate the confusion generated by renamed native (easy to remember) weapon names to generic RB<number>
and PL-<number>
(not even talking about Swiss “lflzlwffwalafwlafwlnumber”).
basically for the same reason to use wt-localization by Jaek - to clean messy names and designations.
The J-10A never used the Python 3 in service, it would’ve used the PL-8A or PL-8B if I recall but I may be wrong. This is a necessary thing and branding them something they aren’t will generate more confusion, it’s like calling the PL-8B the Python 3B.
Export missiles like the SD-10A MUST be distinct anyways since they have different performance to their native counterpart and the same applies to the R-27ET1 and R-73E (this is inaccurately misrepresented in-game already).
I see the reasoning, but it makes sense, as it’s that nations designator for that weapon type
RB; Literally standing for “Robot” or “Missile” in sweidsh.
It makes sense if you have a standard understanding of the nation, and the namesake.
<random_number>[_/j/m] is the only way to distinguish between armaments (barely memorizable), RB
is not an issue
IRL not equals to WT, currently in game:
The only thing I don’t get - why there are no in-game option to bring original names (if weapon is a rename)
SD-10A: PL-12 copy
That’s wrong and will be changed in the future if I was to assume, the SD-10A is a dumbed down version of the PL-12 for the export market.
PL-8: Chinese Python 3
The missile body we’ve got in-game is the PL-8B, you physically cannot call that the Python 3.

It’s easy; 24 is 9B, 71 is 7E-2, 74 is 9L, 74(M) is 9M.
For Air to ground is; RBS-05 is ASM (Domestic), RBS-15 is ASM (Also domestic), RB-05 is ASM (Yet again domestic), RB-75 is AGM-65, RB-75T is an odd child (RB-75 seeker (AGM-65A) with 65G warhead), RB-52 is SS.11 (On the HKP-2), RB-53 is the same as the Type 63 (like the Type 60 ATM), and there are a few more IIRC, all on helicopter though.
For ground; RB-55 is TOW, RB-52 is SS.11.
(Not like I wanted to flex my Swedish designation memory)
Not to mention a few of these have domestic modifications, specifically the RB74 and a few others. Not to mention some are completely domestic, and for memorization sake, should stay as is, as it would be odd for it to be called “AIM-9P-3” then you have “RB-05”
War Thunder should have been another game on release with all bugs fixed and all gameplay issues resolved. We even had a song that sings “everything gonna be on release”, oh good old times…
I dreamed of for really long time to restore actual naming to not to deal with odd obfuscation - and here I am.
No need to argue/persuade, if somebody ok with order of things - good, if somebody wanting a declutter - here it is.
Oh! I see now, this is a source code to modify the names for simplicity for people who would like it. I had thought you want Gaijin themselves to change it completely.

but they’re not the same missile
almost all export missiles are different from the Domestic ones
