Hello and welcome to my first contribution to the French Aviation Suggestions! Today I will be suggesting one of the lesser known planes that France operated, that would be able to fill very important gaps between the current Mirage 5F and the Rafale.

The Dassault Mirage 4000, A.K.A. Super Mirage 4000 (henceforth referred to as Mirage 4000) was an independent project taken up by aircraft manufacturers in France to create a design that utilized twin engines that could exist simultaneously as the Mirage 2000 series. The primary producer of the plane, of whom provided the airframe and supervised the assembly phase, was Avions Marcel Dassault-Breguet Aviation, who in conjunction with the French government were able to aquired several Snecma M 53 engines for testing with the Mirage 4000. With the addition of these engines side by side, the Mirage 4000 was able to achieve an overall Thrust to Weight Ratio of over 1.1, while having the ability to store more than three times the amount of fuel as the Mirage 2000 as well as including in flight refueling capability, further extending its combat range. To further increase the ability of the plane across the board, they went from the all-metal assembly of the Mirage 2000 to a design primarily utilizing composites, significantly lowering the overall weight of the aircraft while maintaining the structure of it.

One of the most major changes when it comes to utilization in game is its sheer size. With the current Mirage 2000 5F, you are only capable of using a total of 4 Air to Air missiles, whereas the Mirage 4000 was capable of mounting up to 8 Magic missiles, or 4 R-530D RADAR guided missiles and 2 Magic 2’s. During the project’s middle stages of development when it was trying to find buyers for the program, they looked to the middle east in Iran and Syria. While the two countries initially showed interest, the Mirage 4000 was decidedly not chosen, as they had instead decided to utilize the new Tornado for their new aircraft. France was decidedly focused on improving the Mirage 2000, leaving no buyers for the aircraft in the market.

With nowhere to go for the new aircraft, the production line of the Mirage 4000 was never able to begin, and the project was canceled in the early 1980’s, with the final fight of the aircraft taking place on the 8th of January, in 1988, where it would take off for the final time, finishing the only prototype’s 366th flight.

The Mirage 4000 provides a unique option for the French in game even though it wasn’t able to see that success in real life. The larger missile load offered to the aircraft give a far more forgiving experience compared to the current Mirage 2000, and near the end of the program the aircraft was projected to be able to mount the soon to come into service MICA missile.

But i think it should’nt be equiped with MICA.
Just give it 4 Super 530D and 4 Magic 2 and let it face F-15/SU-27 with Aim-7 and R27

Would love to see two versions of this thing in the game, one early and one late.
The early version with the Super 530Ds and Magic 2s and the late version with the MICAs to compete against the F-15 and the other air superiority fighters when they come to the game.

+1,
but as far as I know M4000 never integrate RDI radar, use RDM radar till the end.
therefore cannot use 530D, only able to use 530F and MAGICs…
but who knows? Gaijin made Yak-141 available to fight. maybe 4000 can do it too…

This would be the perfect gap between the M2K and the Rafale. Seeing as Yak-141 made it into the game and it was kinda in the same situation (prototype/weapons demonstrator, unfinished while the finished version is in the game), I see no reason not to add it. As for loadout I say give it MICAs only if/when other nations get their own equivalents. If it’s added after they have been introduced into the game, add them on launch, if it’s added before such missiles 530Ds and Magic 2s will do just fine.

Voted for premium option in the future. I think it should come with RDI radar which was planned, although the MICA missiles are a bit much simply because of the amount it was planned to carry.

Really hope this aircraft makes it into the game, perfect inbetween of the m2k and rafale. Hope it gets it’s MICA’s when all the fox 3 are added to the game. Will be a good equivalent to the f15 as it was disigned for. considering that there’s not so much options for the french before the rafale exept this aircraft, i would find it really weird that they don’t add it.

I don’t know where you got the MICA load out from, but IRL it was just MICA and R530s

This is the plane I’m waiting the most for french tree. It’s such a beautiful aircraft and would have been a beast if mass produced. The performances were insane for this time. This is not a very famous aircraft, but damn it is a legend of french aeronautical defence industry.

If they give it the Yak 141 treatment +1

This would allow for Rafale A with RACAAS (aka RDY) and 8 MICAs, making it a faster Mirage 2000-5

I do believe that had the program been accepted by other countries and continued, it would have included an MFD display in the cockpit. However, we would have to see how gaijin would do it. If they give it the treatment of the YAK-141 then it’s very possible, if not then it’s stuck with a few older weapons.

they could cheat by slightly enlarging a 2000 D cockpit and sneak in the double dials

Or enlarge the 2000 C cockpit and cheat the extra dials and the screen just under the sight like on the SUE/SEM/ what i had in the picture

The RDI radar was planned but never implemented, so it wouldn’t have mounted MICAs

Same thing with the Yak-141, half of it was “planned” but never implemented, don’t see why M4K should get a different treatment

Earlier this year the first book on the Mirage 4000 was released. It’s in French and they plan to release an English version too.

Maybe some good info there!!
