1- About the Removal of the Taiwan flag, to the residents on Taiwan Island.
2- About why they kept that flag in-game, to Mainlanders.
So yes. They are doing everything wrong

We want the ROC national flag to be available in game as it was the flag of mainland China 1928-1949 and the flag that represented China as a permanent UN member in the years 1945-1971.
This is not a unreasonable request, first off, it would just bring China in-line with other in-game nations that have access to their historical flags. For example East Germany and Kingdom of Italy.
Secondly, since their addition ROC vehicles have been represented in-game with the ROC army flag, see example below:

Spot the difference? It’s not like we’re asking for radical change here.
Last of all, we’re talking about a client side feature where users can customize their own hangar. Nobody is forcing you to use the ROC flag if you don’t want to.
This is what’s most weird to me. This is like removing the chat entirely because players could voice ther political opinion. The feature isn’t political, and can be usrd for other purposes than politics, but it can be made political by players.
Except for the flag it’s even more stupid because this clientside customization can’t even be shared with other players. So even if they make it political it doesn’t affect anyone.
I don’t believe adding the ROC flag under the name “China” or “Republic of China” would be political, but other than that I agree with you
It wouldn’t, I’m just referring to the option of players to select the historical flag to represent political opinion on modern day ROC.
I’d say since it’s client side customization, so it shouldn’t matter in any way, but that was the argument brought against adding the flag so I’m countering based on it.
Also this goes both ways, the PRC flag could be used as historical flag, however it may also be used as political statement. Keep in mind there is 11 nations where ROC is recognized as Chinese government, meaning players in those regions might take offense, as well as players living in Taiwan.
Of course it wouldn’t be fair to outright ban it just because of a subjective political interpretation, which is the exact point here.
These players can’t complain to their authoritarian government to ban Gaijins from working in their country, so it doesn’t matter anyway.
This feature is purely client-side and doesn’t affect other players at all.

There is nothing political about calling a sovereign nation a state.
If that’s what you believe, fine. But this is a hotly debated political event and since gaijin doesn’t associate itself with politics it isn’t suitable for discussion. And you should not start such discussions by using such claims
It has its own government and military. It is a sovereign state. This is not an opinion, its a fact. Did PRC not exist before it was recognized? No, it also existed. Both exist.
Let’s not discuss taiwanese statehood, partly because it’s political but mainly because it’s off topic in regards the addition of the ROC’s flag.
It being The China is political. Its existance as an entity is not.

Both are heavily disputed and it’s a conversation that attracts the worst kind of people.
(I don’t disagree with you btw, I personally think taiwan might as well be a state since it has its own functions, military, government, and what basically are foreign relations, all of which are independent from the people’s republic of china).
RoC having its own vehicles in War Thunder confirms its existance as an separate entity. Its like disputing earth being round. Do people do it? Yes. Does it make sense? No. Allies during WW2 did not gaslight themselves into thinking there is no Vichy France, and nobody today doubts the existance of North/South Korea. The “worst kind of people” want us to think its disputable. We should not let them manipulate us into doubt. We are better than this.
