Thank you for the insight into the matter. In one way it was almost a shame that it was closed so soon, as it would have brought to light more examples of those who don’t take any issue with the matter regardless. But I suppose those kinds of conversations have no place here, as it is simply a game about tanks, planes, combat cars, and boats with a few flags to help distinguish or educate those who would have never known the difference between one nation’s vehicle or another.
Funnily enough, I would have never known that Taiwan was such an avid user of our(the US) vehicles if it wasn’t for War Thunder. I remember seeing so much in the news about Poland ordering the Abrams a while back, but nothing about Taiwan also doing so.
Correct for both of you. I had family who were confirmed members of the CCP that faught against the occupation.

I understand the frustration from the wider community on not only how quickly it was closed but that the English speaking community had no influence over it. It is a massive shame that things like this happen.
I think there’s very little reason to publicise the purchase outside of Taiwan given the official US stance on the matter. The government stand to lose more than they gain, no point drawing extra ire from the Chinese if it’s something you were going to do anyways. Whilst having them there in Ukraine is no doubt a great public image.

The flag of the Republic of China is historically justified for at least one simple reason. In 1941 or 1945, when military equipment was actively supplied to China to fight Japan – and that same equipment is present in War Thunder – the PRC did not yet exist. The People’s Republic of China was established later. Therefore, the operator of such equipment was the Republic of China, or alternatively the United Front of China.
It is only natural that the flag of the Republic of China be added to the game, so players can use it in the future with the new customization mechanics introduced in the future update.
As a resident of Russia, for example, I am in no way bothered or offended by the presence in the game of flags such as the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, or any others – because these are simply parts of history, and we should treat them solely as such.

In other words, all Navy and Army flags are no longer available because the Chinese don’t want the Rising Sun flag in Japan or the ROC army flag. Because of this, we are also missing out on the 50-star US flag, the Russian saltire, the Royal Navy ensign, and others. Most people focus on the PRC/ROC debate and don’t realise this

100%, if we were to participate in some pedantry, to play devil’s advocate, the Chinese TT should be using ROC flag by default.
As Warthunder began as a WW2 game, Germany still holds the flag of the third reich (for now), and modern day Russia is still using the USSR name and flag. Given how the PRC was not an entity at the time, it should be CCP vehicles under the ROC tree, as ROC predates the creation of the PRC and still exist to this day. Of course the discussion on how we should treat flags, names, historical and current affiliations is the contention of our current subject I won’t delve too far into that.

Agreed. This topic too got very heated because a few individuals, regardless of background, kept promoting certain beliefs and opinions.
I am so passionate about this topic not because China bad/good or RoC/PRC that, but because I am tired of Gaijin holding up double standards.
For what its worth, if anyone got offended by any of my posts here in this topic, that was not my intention, and I apologise.

This does really boil down to a double standard from the 1.91 dev server where they replaced the Flag with the Army Flag. Frankly if it had not been done back then I doubt we would have seen the removal now.

- The Kingdom of Italy flag
- The Soviet Union flag
- The Canadian Red Ensign flag
- The 1928 - 1994 South African flag (which, by the way is currently illegal to fly in South Africa due to its Apartheid connections)

Historical flags of nations that no longer exist are available in the game. I’d appreciate the ability to use the RoC flag, 1928-1949 for the same reason as any of the aformentioned flags.
I enjoy playing with WW2 era Chinese vehicles, and I’d prefer to change the trees flag to the RoC. Similarly if I wanted to play modern Chinese vehicles, I’d switch it back for the PRC flag. It will feel weird in the upcoming update in which all of my trees will have WW2 era flags, but the more modern PRC flag as oppsed to the RoC flag alognside them.
Obviously this is a politically controversial issue but I believe regardless of political stances, it can be agreed that at the very least there is an important historical component to this and exluding it feels incomplete.
Reading through some comments I also think its worth noting that the racism towards the Chinese playerbase is awful. This is a topic that can certainly be discussed without attacking others.
