From what I know Squad 44/Post Scriptum is not successful mainly because of the reliance on communication between teammates, the dev team and Hell Let Loose capitalizing on those issues. War Thunder has no competition right now. Lack of immersion is the last thing that could cause it’s downfall. In fact immersion is the biggest thing Squad 44 and Hell Let Loose have going for them, one is just more immersive than the other, but that’s not why it isn’t successful.
Yes, but you don’t enter them. Overall I agree War Thunder’s terrain/maps most of the time look like shit and they really need an upgrade after 12 years, however effects and vehicle models are amazing.
Historical accuracy right now doesn’t exist. I don’t think that’s how much more important gameplay is in a game, which it’s realistic vehicles and mechanics are the only reason people play it, and I really mean it’s the only reason.
Goes back to the “Why are you even here?” question.
There are much better games. WT’s only advantage is its historical subject matter. Having exquisitely detailed historical models interacting in arbitrary combinations determined by subjective criteria is like eating room temperature ice cream.
WT was build and made on historic and acurate and realistic bassis, the normal corouwd comes in and wants to make it a game, thats not nice to force every one who came for the historic acurate and relastic vehciels.
Nobody comes to warthunder because its arcady game. Its not even advertised as such.
The reason I play Warthunder is because I enjoy the mostly realistic vehicles and mostly realistic features. I was an enjoyer of World of Tanks until I discovered there was a game that wasn’t HP based and full of RNG. Warthunder is that game x4 because it also has naval, fixed wing, and rotary wing aircraft in mixed game modes without having a focus on infantry. It is a great game even though it does have some issues. The historical subject matter isn’t really the focus. It has historical elements because machinery of war and battlefields becomes a piece of history eventually, but I wouldn’t say that Warthunder is a historically focused game beyond the vehicle modeling.
Warthunder is thr only game that offers this style of gameplay with these vehicle sets. If you are looking for a better and more historically accurate game, you need to look at Enlisted. The vehicle combat is simulated more truly to life, and the battelfields and combatants are better historical representations than Warthunder could ever have.
It has always been a game, with arcade-y objectives and gameplay.
Most people join the game to play a videogame, not a hardcore simulator. The “arcade” aspects are what make it a game, and the vehicle models are what make it as realistic as it can be while still being fun.
It’s pretty logical that if the only reason people play this game are realistic vehicles and realistic mechanics, then realistic mm can only increase the value of the game. Realistic and historical in the context of mm are synonymous for me.
Tanks and planes are not like guns or cars, they are relevant only when put in their specific time frame, meanwhile a gun from 100 years ago could be used today, people are just as squishy as they were 100 years ago. And cars you just drive for fun.
What is historical about it? I would love to know why I would need to know/care about history to have fun blowing up vehicles wirh vehickes I think are cool.
That’s not true, tanks and planes are only relevant when facing tanks or planes that perform relatively equally. It has nothing to do with a specific time frame.
Would the history teachers agree that most of the rank 1/2 Swedish and rank 1/2 Germany vehicles have near-equal capabilities? If they wouldn’t, they’re frauds.
