Conqueror mk2 is not good

I’ve finally reached this beast of a tank but compared to what it was designed to do in real life (counter IS-3s it just tickles any slightly angled armor and if it does pen it barely produces any value apart from killing one crew if you aim correctly, then you have to wait 17-15s to try again or die to any aphe shell of that tier since your turret is full of weakspots (literally breach shield is a weakspot???) It’s zoom is also catastrophically bad so it can’t even be used as a long range sniper properly

It consistently nonpens everything despite having 500mm of pen lol

I often pen German and American tanks but the second I see a T-44 or any other angled Russian Tank I get screwed by their “superior” armor and munition

Welcome to the Tech tree that gets nerfed…and nerfed hard, because Gaijin hates Britain!

The Conqueror should have its stabilizer removed, as it didn’t have one in reality. However, they should review the bullet degradation when penetrating spaced armor and the damage it causes.

Another point about the Conqueror is that it was the first tank to have a firing calculator, which linked the rangefinder to the gun. This meant that by calculating the distance with the stabilizer, the gun would elevate to that distance. It’s a historic feature, but the developers aren’t going to include it, since the same thing was already requested for the M48, which also had the same system. The developers said that they only had that type of system for laser rangefinders and that they weren’t going to add it to tanks with optical rangefinders, even though in reality they were linked to the gun elevation.

Well it did and it didn’t. It depends on how specific you want to be…

The stabiliser was mainly for just stopping the gun from bouncing around on the move rather than for true ‘firing on the move’ like it is usually depicted in War Thunder. Not quite similar to the M4’s gun stabiliser but not a million miles off.

The idea being that you would sort of be ‘on target’ when coming to a halt without your big 120mm cannon pointing up at the sky or trying to do a spot of ploughing…

Yes, it would be more of a roll reducer, so when braking the cannon wouldn’t be jumping around so much.

Early Apds round, 500mm is just on paper. ( ex: si you’re shooting the Of-40’s hull and touche the track add-on, you’re not penetring it.

M728 on Vicker mk3, Sho’t kal and M60A1 / L15A5 on the Chieftains (incorrect penetration capacity reported) / slpprj m/66 on Strv 103/ 104 / are better with ‘lower’ armor penetration, the core of those shell use a better alloy, penetration is easier on coposite and multi‑layered armor (like tracks on the hull), which is why it’s considered a late‑model APDS round.

And yes, Late‑model APDS rounds don’t disintegrate on impact, unlike early APDS used on the 17‑pdr, 20‑pdr, and early 105/120 mm guns.

How about the back of an IS-4’s turret or the side of an M103’s hull lol

obviously it is a bullshot like ohter 90% of british vehicles in WT

It’s another case of selective realism this game likes to enforce. For example late German tanks were much worse because they ran out of manganese and same goes for early Russian tanks which would essentially shatter on impact that would not penetrate. And quite obviously I’m not asking for either but they can choose to balance out tanks that are quite literally subpar and are supposed to be the main lineup of its BR for Britain. Or they could add a copy paste lineup to make up for their lack of care towards British ground tree.

Typical snail moment - they can’t figure out how to truly “balans” a vehicle, so instead they repeatedly butcher its ammunition at the behest of the latest crop of whiners until it’s for all intents and purposes worthless.

I’m glad I spaded my Conqueror before shell shattering was implemented, but even before then the postpen on APDS was bad. And I hear now its even worse.

I do find it rather interesting though that the Conqueror only really had a Sherman-style 1-plane stab and not a 2-plane stab - but with that less-effective stab where on earth would you tier the thing if its APDS didn’t shatter all the time, let alone if APDS globally was un-nerfed in its damage output?

Then again, if rounds were modeled correctly globally, the T34 would have a 453mm pen APCR round that spalls as well as the solid shot on the same gun, and if THAT is 6.7 currently, a partly-stabilized Conqueror would be probably 7.3 at most.

To be fair I think that anyone who has played Conqueror would give up a better stabilizer for a working ammo type, and you can’t even choose HESH because it’s somehow worse than the APDS

  • Weakspot on its mantlet really doesn’t help this tank, I think on release it was a lot tougher to pen, shortly after it was nerfed.

I had the same experience playing it. When I finally unlocked it I was so excited to get so many kills and you’re just a sitting large box without armor and with a bullet that barely kills anything…

not gonna lie all i hear is skill issue honestly i have plenty of fun with teh conq

Yeah I mean if I remembered all the oneshot weak spots of all tanks I wouldn’t be writing this, but you need a lot less skill penning anything with aphe and getting a kill than with apds because for some reason aphe to this day does not represent how it behaves in real life.

I have about 300 hours (on and off) most of which I split between German and British tech trees, both Air and Ground. And to be fair, it’s so easy getting lots of kills with German tanks but I don’t care about post WW2 vehicles there, that’s why I started the British line and got totally shat on the moment I reached early apds and hesh. I thought conq would be a game changer but all it did was change my outlook on apds munition altogether

At least it gave you a new perspective on APDS’ reliability in-game. Frankly the best way to play Conq is to just sit as a sniper and aim very very well.
