Cluster Bombs - a first look

Most likely the US capability is ahead of other nations due to the HEAT portion of the CBU. Other not having CEM will lead to unfair and more so unrealistic US nerds because other nations have inferior stuff. Before we had BR and SL costs for balancing, no reality is not so important anymore. On the dev server the US nerfing has started :(

Cluster munitions are both anti personal or large structures like runways.

Weren’t the Bl.755’s bomblets small HEAT warheads which were encased in a segmented wire that produced fragments against soft targets as well? I though I’ve read something along those lines, long ago…

I thought they will add cluster bombs to all planes that were capable of carrying them and all planes that are able to join Nuclear Escalation, but for some reason they missed Yak-28B.

Hope one day they will add Incendiary bombs to Yak-28B as well.

Incendiary bomblets that last for 10 mins and fire on ground can spread to planes, thats a menace to airfields

and they also have a small incendiary effect

tbh

with how mediocre cluster bombs are on dev right now

I dont know why they arent being added to GRB, there are already much more effective CAS options and loadouts for that gamemode

The bomblets of the BL.755 should be a shaped charge warhead.

It’s as Schindibee said, a dual-purpose bomblet: HEAT (Shaped Charge) with a fragmenting casing

CBU-87’s BLU-97/B bomblets operate on a similar dual-purpose principle, but with additional incendiary effects from zirconium elements surrounding the booster that ignites the main charge.

interesting that this states a higher penetration figure of 250mm

Ticket which with the backing of the RAF’s Jaguar tactics manual, says 220mm was the official figure
https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/0TZQ5GBaI2HZ

Ed:- it has been increased now to 220mm on the 2.60.0.34 dev server build, plus some other changes
Overall the BL755 seems a lot more effective against light armoured vehicles now

There are also both AO-2.5 (HE-Frag) and PTAB-1M (HEAT/Frag) versions of RBK-500 now

Honestly, I just want the US to revive blu 108 smart munition. Would make this whole weapon category worthwhile imo

Yay, they changed it toa suggestion. Well, I hope they will add RBK bombs to Yak-28B… It will make it slightly more useful in NE mode.

I’m still somewhat curious as to why the USN / USMC hasn’t yet received the Rockeye…

Any folk know why we can’t drop RBK 500 1 by 1 on frogfoot? It’s a bit peculiar.

weight distribution

I find this highly doubtful, as it flies fine with a singular 500kg bomb on the outer pylon, and differing pylons dependent on wing. Even creating the most unbalanced payload permissible, it flies completely fine. Dropping 1 at a time would not produce a fault with weight distribution.

Even ditching an entire wing of ordnance with a fully laden wing on the other side is completely flight worthy. Deployment of 1 500kg bomb at a time should be permitted in the absence of FCS limitations (which are not depicted in the case of the 4 x 100kg bomb rack).

Doubtful we will see such for a long while given what goes into the BLU 108 functioning, its quite a complex weapon and modeling it in game would be quite taxing.

Still through, if they fix the fusing and dispersion on the existing cluster bombs I would expect them to get far batter.

Same for the Saab F-35 which also was certified for 500 lb Mk20 rockeye cluster bombs.

It is quite surprising that gaijin utterly failed to add in the SD 4 + Abwurfbehälter 250, 500, & 1000 to the game. I guess that they will continue to deny us our standard aerial anti-tank weapon:
