G’day lads. Due to the recent addition of the J-10A in War Thunder, I’ve been already thinking of more modern, not proposed suggestions of the J-10, which for this suggestion will be the J-10B TVC!

Description:

Spoiler

The J-10B TVC is a testbed of the Chengdu J-10 Vigorous Dragon, a multirole combat aircraft developed by China, which was created to test out the WS-10B engine. This particular version is equipped with a Thrust Vector Control (TVC) system, which significantly enhances its maneuverability. The TVC system allows the aircraft to direct its engine’s exhaust in multiple directions, enabling it to perform extreme maneuvers that are typically only possible with more powerful aircraft like the Su-27/30 class. The J-10B TVC is equipped with PL-8, PL-9, etc. air-to-air missiles. It is powered by an advanced version of the indigenous Shenyang WS-10 (B) engine with a hinged nozzle, which provides the thrust necessary for its advanced maneuverability. The aircraft’s design features a delta wing and canard configuration, offering excellent aerodynamic performance. Just like the normal J-10B, it features a new air intake, which should lower radar detection.

History:

Spoiler

The development of the J-10 began in the mid-1980s. The goal was to create a modern, multirole combat aircraft that could match the capabilities of Western fighters. Chengdu Aircraft Corporation spearheaded the project. The first prototype flew on March 23, 1998. Extensive testing and refinement followed, and the J-10 entered service with the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) in 2004.

A notable influence on the J-10 was the Israeli IAI Lavi. This advanced fighter jet project from the 1980s faced cancellation in 1987 due to financial and political issues. However, it’s believed that China obtained significant technical insights and assistance from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The delta wing and canard configuration of the Lavi heavily influenced the J-10’s design, contributing to its aerodynamic performance. Although China has never officially confirmed the extent of the collaboration, the similarities in design are apparent.

The J-10B is an upgraded version of the J-10. One of its most significant advancements is the Thrust Vector Control (TVC) system that was installed on a J-10B, called J-10B TVC. This system allows for enhanced maneuverability by directing the engine’s thrust. The J-10B TVC variant was publicly showcased for the first time at Airshow China in 2018, demonstrating its advanced capabilities.

Armaments:

Spoiler

The J-10B TVC can carry, you guessed it, the same weapons the normal J-10B can carry, which would be the following:

PL-8B

PL-9C

PL-10

PL-12

LT-2

LS-6

YJ-91

CM-704 KG

Other laser guided stuff like LGB’s, rockets, etc.

Type 1473 (KLJ-3) PESA radar (?)

IRST

Last 2 images are the TVC carrrying weapons

If I missed any weapons, then please do tell me!

Specifications:

Spoiler

The J-10 has a length of 16.4m, a wingspan of 9.75m and at last a height 4.78m. It’s empty weight is around 9,750kg and max takeoff weight is around 19,277kg. Powering it compared to the normal J-10B is not the AL-31FN M1, but the WS-10, allegedly the B (-3?) variant, which has the thrust of 30,000 lbf or 32,000 lbf according to different sources, and of course, the most important part is that it has TVC.

This statement is not valid. Lavi is a swept wing+close coupled canard wing, while J10 is a delta wing+mid-range coupled canard wing
IMG_20240904_070906

From the perspective of appearance similarity alone, J10 is actually more similar to JAS-39, even though JAS-39 is also a close coupled duckwing

J10 can be traced back to the J9 project, which has accumulated a large amount of technical reserves

lavi as a product of cooperation between the United States and Israel, Lavi is more like a variant of the F-16, as its components such as intake duct, fuselage, vertical tail, landing gear, etc. are basically the same as the F-16, which can be considered as technology directly derived from the F-16.
But after 1999, Lavi’s improved “Advanced Air superiority” fighter jet had an aerodynamic appearance that was extremely similar to the J-10. Not only has the original close coupled canard wing and swept wing been changed to the same mid-range coupled canard wing and delta wing as the J-10, but even the engine is considering using the same Russian AL-31F engine as the J-10
