Just kinda wondering, ik the 10C has a lot of problems with it right now. But given how new the J-10C is, shouldn’t it get the sort of “smart” MAW that aircraft like the Rafale has where it uses flares or chaff depending on the type of missile it is? Or is that not something China has developed?
The Rafale cannot do this; only the Typhoon can deploy flares or chaff depending on the missile type.
In the game
I don’t think the Rafale can do this, because in the 57 Air Battle, it didn’t realize it was under missile attack until it was shot down
Rafale can do it, or at least used to, it’s one of the reasons I kept MAW on in the Rafale, least when the “smart” MAW was first added. Haven’t flown my Rafale much the past 3 updates so idk if they broke it, wouldn’t be surprised if they did.
If the J-10C is capable of doing this, I think I will shut it down, as it has fewer countermeasures compared to the Rafale and Typhoon.
I’m using a translation app. Please let me know if there are any errors.
The MAW can protect me from being ambushed by the R-27ET
Fair enough, the limited countermeasures is definitely an issue. It’s why I typically turn MAW off, especially as it just starts launching the moment a missile is detected no matter how far it is sometimes resulting in your CMs being completely depleted before the missile would even hit you.
Regarding the malfunction of the J-10C’s TWS, it appears that only the J-10C has not received the fixes that other aircraft using TWSESA have received. We will use datamining as the source, but this is likely the case. Prior to this update, targets frequently disappeared from the TWS on other aircraft as well.

Report[KLJ-10A cannot track target consistently under TWS mode]
Report[The J-10C radar in TWS mode frequently switches targets]
Yeah my J-10C TWS feels like a regular MSA radar, albeit with faster scan speed, even with the narrowest 30°x15° config. Now it sometimes can lose track when scanning downwards.
I don’t own the J-10C and have only watched gameplay videos, but before the aforementioned update was implemented, the F-15CGE and Eurofighter (AESA) were in a similar state.
Meanwhile I only have the AESAs of the lower 3: the Super H, the Firebird and GE.
how high are the chances for positive changes for it, what are we thinking?
I’m a teeny bit pessimistic about it.
ehhh, to me, not high at all, considering the track record
This issue occurred in all aircraft of 15CGE, EF(AESA), Rafale, and Kfir C.10 in the past, but has now been fixed.
It remains a mystery why only the J-10C was not fixed at the same time and was left unresolved for over half a month.
To further elaborate current radar issues I quote some more diligent people on the Chinese forum, but most are just lines of code so you’d understand its contents.
As shown in these datamined lines, almost all AESA/PESA’s buggy “fast TWS” function has been removed to facilitate a more reliable tracking. Not J-10C’s KLJ-10A. The Chinese commentary just says “don’t play J-10C, it’s garbage. I’m a content creator so I can at least stand this thing, but ordinary people with lower skill levels than me should not suffer this trash.”
@ParryACO-psn some food for your thoughts. Maybe you can use this to the other communities.
To translate:
“Nearly all AESA/PESAs, including those not-so-popular ones or those released ages ago, for instance those of Kfir C.10, F-2A and Su-34 have been fixed, so why isn’t J-10C’s? That makes people curious…(/s)”
So yeah two key points needs questioning:
The range modes of J-10C’s radar, made in China after Chinese GJB (National Military Standards, equivalent to U.S./NATO MILSTD), which is strictly metric, are curiously 19/37/74/148km, which exactly corresponds to NATO standards using nautical miles.
The J-10C’s radar cannot tract targets reliably using TWS, even when the field is as small as 30*15°. This track loss also applies to J-11B, F-15E, etc.
More suspicious points would be edited in in the future.
Yeah and a third, many AESA radars (I suspect that GE and super H also have this problem) cannot track targets that fly out of the zone even when the radar is guiding a missile via DL.
This is the explanation Gunjob gave me during the update
Well j-10c’s radar loses lock when you are going head-on on the grounds as well… but yeah at this moment all radars are easy to notch.
However having two beams (one PD and one not) cross-referencing with each other should be able to give a reliable lock, even outside the TWS zone, should it not?
I’m just a player, so I don’t know much about it.
