Yeah, which is not true. The clip only shows 20mm hits (and only actually starts hitting when the BF 110 gets directly behind the B-17 so pretty much the entire starting half can actually be ignored as it has no hits, except maybe a singular hit) and that is a fact that has been proven, in these threads no less, because that’s how often it gets posted.
Every time I see this clip as proof of 30mm damage I lose faith in humanity.
Also that, it’s not even the original footage, it’s the AI “enhanced” (blurry garbage) version with sounds added after the fact (WW2 gun cameras could not record sound).
You’re assuming that Bf 110 G-2s have 30mm guns. By default they don’t, they come with 2 MG 151s in the fuselage floor and 4 MG 17s in the nose. WarThunder actually misslabels the Bf 110 G-2 and what we have is the Bf 110 G-2/R3.
Second, there is. It’s called the gun camera and tracers.
The gun camera of the Bf 110 G-2 sits right in the middle of the nose. Above it would be the MK 108s (or MG 17s), and below it would be the MG 151s.
Every single tracer round we see in the original footage comes from below. Case closed, it cannot be MK 108s.
Hop off with your “sOuNdS lIkE a WhOlE lOt Of OpInIoN” when you have not bothered to do the slightest bit of research here.
This is speculation but I imagine you wouldn’t even be able to actually see the footage if the MK 108s were firing, their flash might just block the view.
Disclaimer: this is not i how i approach, or would advise anyone to approach destroying bombers in the game currently, I did it for this video. At the end of the video, because being low on ammo, i used my preferred method which i highly encourage people to do.
If realism was the goal, the wing and all of it’s structure should be completely shredded at the root area where the rounds hit, and due to aerodynamic forces it should be ripped off.
AP belt’s for both the 13mm and 20mm guns.
And because someone will eventually say it’s hard to see that i actually hit it, because of the oil leak blocking the view, here’s the server replay: Gaijin Entertainment - Single Sign On
Yeah no the trailing edge of planes is pretty much as close as you can get to invincible right now.
Sure, if I aimed for other spots of the B-29 it would kill him. This is the worst possible shot you can do right now with HE rounds (technically HE + SAP here).
But 500 20mm rounds into a single specific spot of a bomber should kill. No questions. Just because the trailing edge is more durable doesn’t mean the trailing edge is invincible.
Edit: Should be mentioned, German guns in particular suffer because they also have way lower pen in general than other nations, even when using AP rounds. Anything with less than 20mm pen seems to just not be great.
