That is not “effectively killed”. People on forums love the term “mission kill” that because the plane have to RTB means he’s done. That’s not how it works. IRL bombers may be knocked out for weeks or months from structural damage and crew replacement, but WT bombers have a turnaround time of a minimum 10 seconds.
If it can land, it’s not “killed”
Guess what, if he survives long enough despite this, and then I and another jet mutually kill each other, that win isn’t going to me, it’s going to him because his plane is not 8 feet under.
dudes over here telling ME how MY bomber is taking damage lmfao.
No, i was effectively dead, no tail controls, no gunners, lost two engines on the same side, there was no way for me to land it. If i tried to slow down id enter a spin
Yet there’s plenty of examples in this thread alone with people landing with a full black aircraft. Almost like bomber damage doesn’t actually prevent it from landing?
I’ve seen jets in more uncontrollable flight with just one of the wingtips clipped off. Meanwhile you’re attaining level flight with a half blacked out bomber.
Cause those 3 countries are the only ones that have a need for long range strategic strike capabilities… and why put such an expensive aircraft and valuable pilots at risk? That is such a foolish argument
“Only 3 countries operate bombers and only at standoff ranges, they must be terrible” No, the technology has developed to the point where it isnt necessary to send them IN like in vietnam for example, and even in vietnam we had b52s tanking SA-2s with 130kg warheads, some multiple, without breaking apart, more severe cases ending up limping back over friendly airspace then ejecting
And if bombers are so durable, tough, and can easily make back after 10 missile hits, why do they phase out most traditional bombers for low altitude attack aircraft?
element of surprise, its expensive to repair bombers, pilots dont like being shot at and have a will to live, and also if you’re getting intercepted by fighters, they carry more than one missile, so even if your bomber can tank one, they can just send more until you’re dead
buddy thinks hes onto something
We got plenty of examples of bombers and even smaller fighter type aircraft eating missiles, to critical areas too, we had a B52 eat a HARM directly to the radar in its tail and it flew home, and that has a comparable warhead size to the AAMs we have ingame
Black thursday, 9 B29s swarmed by 56 mig 15s that bypasses the fighter escort, despite that, only 3 didnt make it back to base, another 3 were so shot up they were written off upon returning
As long as you ignore the severly crippled ones or the ones that eat one hit and die, sure. And these were early SAMs btw, not even the modern 21st century crap.
Meanwhile this guy shrugs off 9 modern ARHs “but they didnt shoot the right spot”
