Changes to Bomber Survivability

How many engines am I holding up?

You said 3 engine fires below a ki67 pic, and I dont see any burn marks on that g5n1

Did you know you can land on airfields to repair?

You forgot to show a clip of the BV 238 flying over the airfield AA at a few hundred feet and not dying.

You have to be incredibly disingenuous to not see how imbalanced some bombers are, especially when comparing the risk vs reward of actually attacking them. Bomber gunners aren’t even that bad too, so their defence is overall decent as well.

sounds like an airfield AA issue, which it was always crap anyway, so time to rework

Actually, a ton of reworks are needed, how can the game advance if we keep tying ourselves down to 12 year old broken mechanics?

Airfield AAA is more than capable of killing everything else before they can shoot someone on the ground. This is exclusively a bomber issue caused by their fictionally strong damage models.

dudes defending the 1 tick of damage per 3 seconds airfield AA found at the BR these bombers actually fly at lol

i always though with higher skill comes more game understanding… but seems you havent hit that mark yet.
sorry to be so harsh but what u say is just nonesense… we had such a nice conversation before and now this stupid comment made me lose my believe in you :(

But lets argue about skill as an argument who is right and who is not… i have more then you :D i win :D

Yeah idc, those videos are poking fun specifically at people who think bombers are unkillable

Thats not what u saied:

U specificly point a finger at people and phrasing that the bombers are not OP, now u say otherwise again… the internet never forgets, stay to your words, no argument picking here.

B-52 hit by a SAM and flying back to base is historically possible.(https://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/Visit/Museum-Exhibits/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/195839/b-52d-battle-damage-report/)

winning the lottery is also historically possible
same as dying on a hearthattack while flying a bomber
so whats your point?

it wasn’t even a direct hit
and 60s sam aren’t exactly known to be accurate (hence why there’s multiple of them covering an area)

It call VT fuze

Quilt 3 ate 3 before actually structurally breaking up midair, SA-2s, 130kg warhead, lethal radius listed as 250M at hight altitude, accuracy is within 65m.

But yes thats a one off case, though 1, maybe 2 medium sized missiles? I could see a large modern heavy taking it

After first reading i assessed your comment as sarcasm - as otherwise your comment made no sense at all. After reading other comments from you i changed my mind.

A few things to unpack:

  1. Your strategic bomber spawn (usually 4,500m, tactical bombers usually 1,000 meters lower) enabled you to get (often) unharmed to a target and drop your bombs. So your subsequent troubles to land is the price for your initial success.

  2. In order to reduce speed and altitude the most effective way requires that you increase drag whilst flying in slight and wide downward spirals with high AoAs but inside your structural limits.

  3. In order to increase drag more effective you need to use to use manual engine controls (MEC). By increasing the prop pitch to 100% and opening both radiators to 100% the props create with 0% power a significant portion of drag, the rads not so much (depending on type you fly). Certain bombers have also combat flaps which slows you down when trying to use altitude.

  4. The only thing which made somehow sense in your comment is the possibility that you spawn behind friendly interceptors or ADF fighters - but not you on a lower altitude - they should spawn on your altitude to fly in front of you and clear the air space in front of you. Your high altitude prevents standard fighter spawning at their airfield to intercept you - a lower spawn multiplies your threats before you drop.

  5. But even this is highly questionable because it assumes that these friendly fighter would actually protect you instead of ignoring enemy fighters with the same spawn and go for the assumed easier targets the enemy bombers. And this would assume that both sides have the same amount and quality of such “escort” fighters. For your example Germany and usage of a Fw 200 - a clear no. Your classic full sized lobby is stacked with 3-5 MiG-3s and 1 or 2 Yak-2 KABBs - all severely outperforming any possible escorts.

Seeing your other comments as a whole i am not sure where to start.

Bomber game play is centered around avoiding contact and being at least slightly smarter than your average opponent. I do not recommend the Fw 200 - the Ju 88 A-1 is the far better plane and there is a reason why i lost just 2 of them in ~150 Air RB matches with a 80% win rate.

In case you need more support or helo - open a thread in the Academy section.

A large gap exists between immediate total structural failure and successfully flying back to base with hours of flying

Airfield AA is stupidly OP against propeller aircraft because they are too slow to do anything against a hitscan mechanic. It’s exclusively a bomber issue as they are the only aircraft type not killed within seconds.

I agree, including bombers.

That was a thing in Korsun

no, rework everything to the standard of bombers, not the other way around
