According to German sources it should only take an average of 20x 20mm hits or 5x 30mm hits to down a 4-engine bomber, and only a single hit from a 50mm.
Purportedly US sources reported similar at 17 and 4, I’ll see if I can find the original source.
In the meantime here’s the probability of kill within 5 minutes (A) or inability to return to base (B) of a single hit from assorted weapons vs a B-25. A is really the one that matters for the game. Note the 3cm MK108 has a cumulative 1-hit “A” kill probably of 28.8%! It should only take 3 or 4 shots!
Heavy fighters, which haven’t gotten the survivability buff, are still too weak against bombers despite their heavy armament. They should be able to withstand what a single-engine fighter cannot.
any match that is close enough devolves into bombers gunshipping each other because nothing else can kill them and not die doing it
it’s fun for now because the update dropped yesterday, next week or next month people will be praying for a nerf
every match goes to the end of the timer now, everything takes longer, you can’t actually get much dogfighting with other fighters anymore
anyone wanting some cool fights in their fighters against other fighters is completely out of luck because an invincible bomber can just roll in and click you out of the air
idk about kd farmers, I just ignored bombers until there were no more fighters around me, going for them was a waste of ammo and time
the way to integrate them better into air rb is by making them killable with reasonable means
which means a fat nerf
it’s actually very easy to 3rd party people since you can just fly in with zero concerns of being shot down, and most dogfights will quickly transition into slow speeds and even stall fights
plus if you’re both turning against each other you are not actually moving through the map, you’re sitting in the same place the whole time
Woah, you managed to damage a bomber with a 75mm, who would have thought.
Many guns below 75mm existed and they were also considered “large calibers” and they managed to damage and take down bombers just fine which is not the case in game.
Since you are showing us protection analysis results, would you be kind enough to show us what a 20mm does to a bomber now?
Now go ahead and attempt to intercept this flying piece of Tungsten in a 1.0 - 6.0 fighter with your average 20mm cannon (pilot snipes don’t count).
You are basically saying that if I don’t fly the Ki-109 that I should cope cuz the 75mm does “some damage” just fine.
there is a wide space between what we had before and what we have now
they should dial it back to about 1/3rd the difference and it would be perfectly fine
even Ki-109 doesn’t work much of the time. Hit a Catalina’s wing thrice yesterday, all in the same area, and he still just flew off back to base. I ran out of 75mm HE.
pilot snipes have always been a sure way to kill them and that hasn’t changed, it tells us nothing about the current state of the damage model
I would legitimately lie and tell people that I shat my pants and was AFK then admit to the colossal lack of awareness that would lead to being 3rd partied by a 4 engine bomber, that is so colossally bad its not even a joke, it’s worse then turn fighting a Zero… I am actually gob smacked that anybody would try to pretend that’s a thing and think anybody would take it seriously.
Because bombers should also die to accumulated damage from a 20mm for example, and that is not the case now. You will end up unloading your entire mag at the bomber and it won’t be enough, it’s unreasonable.
People trying to defend their old bot-farming with glass bombers is funnier.
People trying to pretend that 4 bombers in the enemy team can make a 16vs16 match unplayable is even funnier.
I would understand if there was no restriction and matches were full of bombers… But there can be only 4 of them. God, 4 vs your 12 + 4 of these “strong bombers”.
They are not even faster than you. They are not sneaky. Can’t you just… ignore them?
One thing people miss in these convos about “aiming better” is that it’s hard to aim at a specific point while diving down at an odd angle, while also being shot at.
It’s also just risky to attack in general because a single .50/20mm cannon can easily take out your engine/cooling system, or even rip a wing off.
There’s also a severe lack of any sort of adverse flight performance effects due to cannon fire. It’s impossible to make a bomber unfit to fly now which makes no sense.
