Changes to Bomber Survivability

When I was in top 10-20 among all Air RB players in kills per battle (nowadays I hang around top 200, because I no longer care or try) spamming Fw 190 F8, my K/D was 6:1 (it was even better in.the period where MG151/20 was the only cannon that worked, lol, but that one shouldn’t really count as that was essentialy bug exploiting).
Just as a point of reference.

In other words - damn man, without those overspeed.deaths you’d probably be sitting at 15:1.

Yes I am well aware of that but you do realise what tracers are for, yes?

To see where your shots are landing which means if the tracers are continuously going past the tail, that’s where the non-tracer rounds go as well.

They don’t just switch direction in between tracer rounds and even if by some bizarre use of the force the enemy pilot was able to fire tracers, then adjust his non-tracer rounds in the split seconds between the next set of tracers to hit the plane and then readjust back to their original path for the next set of tracers. I mean come on? Even by some stroke of luck that was the case, then why are no hits actually visibly registered on the aircraft?

You see him hit the tail earlier on, so why do we not see any hits to the front, right side, or top centre of the fuselage?

I mean, people keep says “just snipe cockpit” when you try to kill bombers but, they doesn’t know bombers doesn’t fly straight and you can turn when someone is trying intercept.

Most of my Qing-6 kills have been against fighters that tried to kill me headon, if you have enough distance against them, you can turn 90 or 180 and aim your gunner. Also, with some bombers, you can try energy trap, and if you do that with aircraft with tiny gunners dead zone like G8N1, you can easily send them return to the hangar.

Killed like a half-dozen Qing-6s while respading the spitfires prior to the bomber nerf.

No problem, Pure skill issue on fighter players part.

What bomber nerf?
Also, Spitfire has Hispanos that have a ton of range and penetration. If your opponent has a huge skill issue, you may succeed by firing from 1000+m away and doging, as Spitfire is small and has excellent maneuvrability. Would love to see you replicate that success in Fw 190 D9 f.e
Or G.55 S1. Or even goddamn La-7.

I don’t know about the Spitfires, but with the Bf 109G-14, you have to get quite close to score hits with the ballistically poor MG151/20s—and just imagine how close you have to be to land a hit with the MK108s.

My bet is that the playerbase is slowly learning at large that pilot snipes are the only way to reliably kill the bombers now, so they are aiming for them more often rather than anywhere else (because why would you bother?) So the bomber pilots are now just noticing most of their deaths are from pilot snipes now as thats the only way they do die.

Also, I did a whole LOAD of testing again today with the new “nerfed” damage model. The only difference I noticed is that rounds do seem to go through the plane more often and hit crew. a couple of times i had my friend planting his rounds through the fuselage of my B17 and killing every single gunner in the plane besides the pilots. While doing zero structural damage btw. The only noticable change seems to be that you can kill the crew easier.

In our testing, short of the more consistent crew damage, they seem just as survivable as before. While doing some actual limit tests I had my mate firing a god damn 88mm from his VFW tank at my B17 and it was taking him 3-4 hits on average to kill it, with a god damn long 88. He also fired a round from the Maus’s 128 at the wing tip. It did not rip it off. It made it orange.

Also before this latest change, I watched an enemy PBM Mariner fly over my teams airfield, and hovered over it at about 1km alt for a full 2 minutes and 30 seconds (I recorded this) just tanking it before he finally crashed. 2 mins and 30 seconds of Airfield AA. And this was after I had planted a 75mm HEF shell from the Ki-109 into his tail.

You know what would be hilarious? If Gaijin gave us a new bomber to grind for during the next WT anniversary event xD
hilarious
And then nerfed bombers into the ground right after the event xD

Good thing fuel fires do absolutely nothing and go out like a matchstick. Jet fuel can’t even melt aluminium in war thunder

They can’t see and they wont do anything about it.

I really don’t think most of what the community says ever gets near the devs and I’d bet that the feedback being sent back is that everyone’s happy.

At this rate, idk how else to explain it - few gaming companies have been this tone deaf and blind to the condition of their own game unless it was a low budget studio.

Not only did they not fix lower tiers, high tier bombers are also broken. I saw a dude spawn a Tu-95 in bullet hell lmao.

I wanna give a perspective on the problem as someone that has a over 6.6 K/D on the most flied prop I have, the J6K1, having over 1600 kills, so I can assure you that I in fact am skilled enough to comment on whether or not something is a “skill issue”. If something even I deem to be basically impossible, then it’s absolutely not balanced for the general player base.

I’ve been playing the J6K1 ever since earlier this year, and I racked up an impressive kill score in it. Most of it are F8Fs, P51s, and F2Hs, with the F-89 and Me-262 C2B here and there. I believe I’ve become very proficient in the plane. I want to point out that I do not farm kills from bombers, and I don’t see them as a free kill. In my opinion, every match I enter i have the potential to earn from 3-6 kills, and if going for a bomber in the beginning of the match means possibly damaging my aircraft due to their ability to shoot in every direction, then I wouldn’t go for them. I don’t need to miss out of the dogfight and miss out on my 3-6 kills simply for a single bomber kill, it was simply not worth it. The J6K1 has an impressive frontal firepower of 6x 20mm cannons, although their lower fire rate make them harder to use and actually shoot less rounds / second than the US 4x 20mms on the banshee. Even with that in mind, the firepower is not to be messed with as everything I shot at (before the bomber patch) fell apart instantly.

After the bomber update my first thought was to instantly check how much they were buffed, and found out that upon dumping 1200 rounds into them, into one wing segment, there seems to be no real damage taken, so I instantly believed that the bombers are simply not worth going for. Ever since that I tested everything that could possibly counter bombers to no avail, and most 30mms and even higher caliber rounds would require way too much time staying behind a bomber to kill it. I would again like to note that this is considered difficult even by me, therefore is completely imbalanced for the general player base with a much lower K/D.

Then there’s the pilot snipes. From my experience as I flew the J6K, it had wing mounted guns. Pilot snipes were basically impossible for me because of how spaced apart the guns are, and the fact that I’m forced to aim beyond 1km for the front aspect shot. Bombers always maneuver as well, which makes it even harder to actually hit something. My plane also get set fire the moment a single round hits, .50 cal or 20mm, it didn’t matter. This meant I only engaged bombers when I had no choice, could not run away as they were hunting me, or when I’m trying to land and I wanted to maybe set fire to them to make them shoo off. I’ve witnessed myself bombers tanking airfield AA, which means landing was a risk as well, even at the rear airfield.

I’ve found a strategy that works against bombers, and that is to not fight them at all. I would climb, kill as many fighters as possible until there are only bombers left, and then land and leave. My plane is too fragile, and my 20mms that are supposed to be extra deadly against bombers simply doesn’t even tickle them. Every time I tried to go after a bomber meant I die as a free kill for the bombers, funny how the tables have turned on that one.

I hope the bomber mains can take a look at this and realize how ridiculous they sound when they tell fighter mains “skill issue”, “just aim for pilot”, and “just get better aim”. My stats on a fragile plane that dies to one shot is better than yours on a stalinium plane that’s impervious to 20mm fire that you’re abusing just because of the update. Please take a moment to come to your senses and realize this is not only completely unrealistic, but also completely unbalanced. I hope this gets overhauled soon so that I can actually play the game like it was meant to be played. Fighters fighting fighters, interceptors intercepting bombers, and bombers bombing bases. Now it has become bombers are fighting fighters, and interceptors if they try to do their job becomes a free kill.

In the end I want to add that to make sure that gaijin actually sees this problem, please let’s get more people to check “I have the same issue” in the bug report page, and help me with documentation as well as historical sources that would help gaijin actually balance things right. Well my friend, this reminds me of artillery discussion.
First artillery noobs told me I suck. So I became top 100 WoT player. Then they told me I don’t play artillery, so I ground 2 techtrees worth of artillery. Then French autoloader super OP tanks came. They told me they are not OP and I have no idea because I haven’t played them.
So I did. After several heavy nerfs, and they were still OP, mind you.

My point is, reasoning with people who think current situation is OK is impossible, they will just keep.moving goalposts and wasting your time.

J6K at least has a ton of range and AP round that works beyond 500m, so you have it fairly good, haha.

I have never enjoyed trying to kill bombers, the only thing I felt condident enough to do that was Do-335 B2 as I even trashed Hitman’s bomber with it. But that was back then, when landing a burst of 30mm actually ended the fight.
