Changes to Bomber Survivability

Fighter players still have 3/4 of the enemy team to kill and have fun with. If they don’t want to deal with bombers, then just don’t. Do what bomber players used to do: J out on the airfield and leave the match. Or just space climb and loiter around

I am actively chasing down fighters and winning because they can’t do anything about me

Lmao chasing fighters on a bomber is like chasing light tanks on a tutel or something

I honestly have no information on it, but an s-75 proximity fuze is 20 to 60 meters for around 200kg of explosives, but take examples like that one airliner that was accidentally hit in eastern europe recently. The pantsir proximity fuze is around 10 meters of distance and the plane, despite the hit, was still maneuverable. Large aircraft fuselages shouldnt be underestimated, these are very sturdy structures

Bofors just tickles bombers you are more or less invurnable to ground fire, you can loiter over enemy airfields for whole game and AAA wont be any serious harm.

On a more holistic level you can identify some pros and cons of the current situation after the patch update (valid for Air RB at prop BRs):

Positive:

  1. The probability to reach and destroy a base (as surrogate for a tactical / strategic target) increased significantly.
  2. Low skill players in fighters unable or unwilling to improve (and therefore going for the easiest targets in the past) die now in droves as their tail sniffing approach which granted them in the past more or less free SL/RP with basically zero effort or risk is now deadly.
  3. The same kind of players requesting ai gunner buffs every few days somehow discovered the possibility to man their turrets and are now fighting other players with manual gunnery.
  4. The skill gap between players became way more obvious - smart players are (as in the past) able to go for the real threats (which are not bombers) whilst others waste ammo, time and positioning for a low threat enemy.
  5. Technically seen the current set-up of 2nd stage daily tasks (kill 8 bombers or 26 fighters) is now for the first time worth to think about.

Negative:

  1. The increased chances to get to a base were provided without requiring anything from players - meaning that there is no skill or learning curve required. So in tight matches (ticket situation) the average player will still bomb a respawning base and lose by tickets despite he could have won the match by bombing 2 or 3 ai tanks.
  2. The damage buff seems to work on multiple layers but is from my pov centered around a plain increase of resistance vs HE ammunition. Best evidence are the guys in Bv 238s flying casually to your main airfield and kill all aaa as they are (almost) invulnerable vs the otherwise deadly hitscan af aaa.
  3. The majority of my matches had fighter players or tankers in bombers - often in 3 or 4-men squads trying to play PvP without any clue of the on very old legacy maps still decisive PvE part (like on Malta) - they won often the team battle but lost then the match due to the PvE part.
  4. From my pov attacking bombers is currently a waste of ammo and has even in ideal situations (perfect positioning and approach) not worth the risk as some planes burn for ages and can even make it back to repair.

Regarding game play:

  1. I see no real benefit or improvement for bomber game play in general as the systemic disadvantage of playing them in their intended role remains unchanged. It looks like that almost everybody is distracted by the new qualities of bombers in a PvP role and ignore their basically non-existent PvE role.

  2. I admit that i witnessed epic battles (like 4 B-17s vs 4 Me 264s) and fully understand that players enjoy this - but from my pov most people ignore that Air RB became now even more a plain arcade shooter. I don’t like that.

  3. We will see how long gaijin wants to keep the current status quo - but i decided to play fighters only and play around bombers as benefiting from an imho way too strong damage buff would devalue my efforts i invested in playing bombers before this buff. I invested a lot of brainpower to fly the US B-17 or the GER Do 217 with minimal casualties in an extreme hostile environment. The current buff makes these efforts worthless.

Have a good one!

a hit to WHERE

we have footage of a B-17 being hit by an early Falcon and it snapping the wing in half, or a B-24 hit in the wing root and the entire wing folded.

it’s extremely easy

Ok, it was kinda easy, I destroyed three bombers using pe-3bis

Witch number two got a noose to give her:

Witch number three gonna watch her burn:

Just shoot at the engines or pilots, I guess.

bombers really needed the buff, it was really hard having to actually play the game instead of flying around fighting whoever i want

please buff gunners next so i don’t have to aim either

Yeah, now that this is out, how did anyone let this get out into live? Are you all mouth breathers or something?

Using interceptors with bomber damage model provides an excellent opportunity to hunt bombers.

Agreed, especially for high altitude bombers like the FW-200. I always can’t land because I just keep picking up speed as I try to lose speed! Giving us a spawn behind the airfield at the same altitude of interceptors would be much better and it makes intercepting easier for interceptors (air defense fighters) with weak engines like the Do 217s

on paper it sounds nice, but once implemented bomber players would never have to land and can just stay high in the stay being untouched

You mean… making bomber spawns at 2000 meters rather than 5000 meters will make them never land?

i was replying to his feature where you wouldnt have to land and fly into a rearming zone like battlefield so you can rearm midair and dont have to land ^

Ah, ok, I said that about strategic bombers such as Tu-95, B-52, Yak-28. On their BR, people have missiles and speed. And altitude is nothing.

And they just can’t land. Better just make them not land then, idk, they are tooo inert.

I love using the Do 217s but the problem is that bombers spawn so high up and the Do 217 has such weak engines so it’s not the best to use for that sadly, but I still try, but usually I have to battle fighters.

Yeah, bombers should just spawn with everyone else now, as they don’t need a special separate respawn because they are not that vulnerable.

Either make it on interceptor respawn height, or make them take off from field…

Interceptor spawn height behind the airfield and the option to just spawn on the airfield would be perfect!
