You’re going to have to fly really high to survive, but if the players got some really good AA on their battleships, you’re going to get evaporated.
2000 meters was enough before.
It was, but I normally flew to 8000 meters before dropping bombs, especially in the map, where battleships will decide clump together forming a impenetrable fortress.
Sonderkommando Elbe be like
The biggest issue with the changes to bomber survivability is that, while bombers can now take a lot more punishment (which needs some tweaking), fighters are incredibly fragile; a single stray bullet from a bomber can snap a wing and destroy the engine, creating a massive imbalance.
The overhaul should have covered all aircraft, aiming to better distinguish between damage zones and then adjusting the damage values for every type of round—factoring in HE payload, fragmentation, penetration, and fire damage.
The stat about Fragmentation pen is new, as seen on some of my comparison of shell performance between the previous update (live server) and the last dev server:
Honestly, what would really fix issues like this, would be the separation of aircraft skin from the airframe as damage models. Damage to the skin, especially on the wings would increase drag and decrease lift, while damage to the airframe could cause it to break apart at the end.
Then something like machine gun fire would do a small amount of damage to the skin, however they would only deal damage to the airframe if it hits it.
While larger cannon fire using HE would deal a lot of fire to the skin, and maybe a small amount of damage to the airframe if it is close the explosion, while AP on the cannon would deal similar damage to the skin as machinegun fire (of cause more since it is a larger shell), but lots of damage if it hits the airframe.
However for this to also work better, they would also need to break up the damage model into smaller pieces that we currently have, since the something like the wings being only 3 different “hit boxes” no matter the size of the aircraft, is too inadequate.
i wasnt crazy then
it’s extremely easy
I really think now we should force bombers to land to reload their gunners in Air RB as it is in Air SB, lol.
This B-17 is flying at 7km altitude for the whole battle.

And he still has ammo :P
Only for certain guns tho. I think on some bombers the crew would probably have extra ammo. Like the guns that point sideways on most bombers. Surely those would be reloadable.
They already have extra ammo in game modelled. For example, one german attacker, I do not remember its name, it has mg-15 at the back, with drum magazines modelled. But the turret itself has 900 rounds. So these 900 rounds are all extra rounds for said turret combined. Cuz obviously there is no drum magazine with 450 rounds :P
I think it’s the Do 217
issue of skill
The game already uses the total ammo allocations per gun specified in the manuals. There are no reserve ammo boxes that can just be picked up from anywhere.
Some MG 15s -which used compact drum magazines- could indeed be easily swapped or shared with nearby gun stations, but I can’t say the same for heavy ammo boxes of other calibers.
Bombers for starters should not get 5k alt airspawn, as they simply do not need it anymore. If they want to fly high they should climb like all other planes.
Yeah, sometimes I think they don’t think how players will interact with their features, like…
Okay, here are new bombers. They have more HP which means there will be a situation when fighters will ran out of ammo and they will have to RTB to reload. So they have to go from 7km back to 0km, land, reload, then take off and climb to 7km, then approach a bomber again.
So, what the other side should do in comparison? Well, nothing, they have infinite gunner reloads in mid air. So they do not need to RTB to fight, only to grab new bombs.
Its like… was obvious. At low ranks it is not that visible, as there bombers mostly fly at 2-3 km altitude. But at 5.0+ it is clearly visible. Bombers are spawned at high altitude and fighters have to climb that altitude + altitude a bomber will climb while fighters are climbing their altitude. Then they meet, fighters shoot their ammo and have to RTB. Bombers are okay and will continue to fly and wait for another fighter approch.
With a simple addition of limited reloads for bombers in realistic as they do in simulator, they will have to RTB to reload their gunners, instead of being an infinite-ammo and tough multi-engine fighter planes.
Which will make them go down instead of an eternal climb. Fighters will see them more often near the ground. And they all will fight.
Mhhj, calling out i have lack of experience hits hard…
Chances of a map where there is not enough AI stuff to win by tickets is already low, and even if i still can chase the fighers that can not attack me unless they wanna die.
In every single chase, no matter the map or whatever, i have an advantage over the fighers now with a “reblanced” bomber.
And what the fuck is wrong with you? “the text above disproves your general view”? tf? my general view cannot be disproven as its my view… if i think my car is cooler then yours, then u disprove me how exakly? xD
And in this discussion your semantics about your mindset has really no place. This is a discussion about facts, and its a fact that if u want to have the easiest time in air rb to win/grind its adviced to take one of the new “rebalanced” planes. as they are currently the meta…
should it be like that? no ffs no. But is it this way atm? Hell yes.
And if “you simply have not the necessary experience” (your own words) to understand the current potential in those bombers… then thats really your fault…
and before u come again with expirience…first of all no one cares how much or little expirience someone has… only arguments count… and second… do your research first Mr 10k (33%) battles on B7A2 …
… wish we would get a statcard shown in the forum… so u instandly know who tf ure even talking to.
What bomber players also do not know is that all interceptors are super bad climbing, and even with the useless spawns they get they still do no reach bombers in time.
By saying the infamous “learn how to approach and attack them”, they imply that all players get to approach them at equal terms, which is simply not correct.
The reason that there is so many people that die to rear gunner fire is because they approach bombers from the disadvantageous alt they get from the start.
The only way a bomber can be approach is by side climbing, which is pretty idiotic by nature since bombers get to play the game with no real counter play as they bomb and remove tickets by being as safe as possible with the already terribly implemented changes.
The ONLY way a bomber can be effectively killed is cockpit snipe which is already not 100% reliable thanks to the Terrible changes to the HE shells in ammo belts.
In other words, fighters and interceptors do not get to approach bombers at equal terms regarding altitude, armor since bombers can one shot them but we cannot and the HE changes forcing players to use the terrible armor pen belts.
You will always find delusional people disagreing with this as they simply do not play the same game as us.
