I would never say this because what’s being claimed is impossible; if such an issue actually exists, it’s entirely due to Gaijin’s spaghetti code.
As a matter of fact, according to the USSBS (United States Strategic Bombing Survey) document, the Germans even launched an attack like this—it was referred to as a suicide attack, or something along those lines.
You can read the sections above where it says page 7.
And it’s still one of the deadliest cannons that B-29 can possibly face
Raiden has mismatched guns. The inner pair is a Mk 2 with much higher velocity.
Do you see the Fw 190 with four cannons doing any more damage?
I posted four. Which one?
The tail which as per the survivorship bias illustration you posted showed 0 hits
Four of the six cannons in the He 219 are 30mm
Where do you see that only 2-3 hit? Obviously I’m not posting over an hour of video of shooting B-29s from various angles.
The tail which again as per the survivorship bias illustration you posted, is a giant weakspot
It’s very easy to cherrypick videos where you can pretend the current DM isn’t 100% fictional
low quality bait
This was literally the first clip in the first video you posted
Cool, I got four 30mm cannons opening up on those 29s. Do you see huge losses?
That Bf 110 has two 30mm and one 37mm cannon. Do you see huge losses there either?
It’s not an accusation, it’s a statement
keep using those emdashes buddy
I just tried it. I got a hit from the historically accurate lead pursuit angle right into the tail. No kill, just “Hit”.
And that’s also a spot where A PREVIOUS FALCON had also hit.

I also tried AIM-7M.

Very close proxy fuse trigger or direct impact, right in the wing root weakspot where IRL pilots were told to aim for, and there’s a massive fuel tank right there

Shortly after it put two fires out and returned to flying in formation with the other B-29.

How about TWO AIM-9Ls fired one right after another?
Not even a fire.

Somehow, with both guns and missiles, none of these internals are actually vulnerable.

It’s very unfortunate that gaijin replaced the B-17s from last time with B-29s because the QB-17 target drone was used for plenty of missile testing and would make a great comparison, but the B-29 was not.
EDIT: how about 3x R-27s fired in a salvo, like aircraft such as the F-102 and F-106 did to increase hit and kill probability?

Still nothing.

It’s a miracle how japan ever shot down any of these.
Japan really didnt shoot down many of these at all 😂
In WW2, B29 gunners alone had something like a ridiculous 11:1 KD against japanese fighters (thanks to their mechanical aimbot and the abysmal state of the japanese air forces at that point of the war)
A little over 2/3rds of the 400 or so B29 losses were to engine trouble, the remaining 1/3rd was to fighters and flak combined
B29s generally had a 1.1-1.3% loss rate per sortie, and due to their small formations that worked out to literally like 0.9 planes ON AVERAGE
Ofcourse this did vary between their high altitude daylight bombing and low altitude night bombing, though most of their high altitude bombing losses were once again engine related
In Korea their numbers change thanks to things like more radar guided AA and Mig 15s
Black tuesday had 56 mig 15s swarm a formation of 9 B29s after they bypassed the fighter escorts, 3 of them were shot down, and 3 were so severely damaged upon limping home that they were written off.
Outside of that day, B29s flew like 20k ish combat sorties off thw top of my head, and due to the design being more mature at that point, the losses flipped to 1/3rd mechanical and 2/3rds to enemy fire, totalling around 80 losses over those sorties
Also how the hell are you managing to get them to eat missile after missile? I cant seem to get that result
Isn’t the main problem with the M-Geschoss rounds that they explode on contact with the aircraft’s skin instead of exploding 10cm after entering the enemy aircraft like they did irl?
Among other things, yes, in war thunder thats how they behave
Ofcourse man, at the end of the “how to single pass bombers” video i made you got a clip of me ine tapping the wing off a b17 anyway with the 110 g2’s dual mk108s!
And this is old now, 2 dev server changes have been made allegedly making the bombers even more fragile so these passes of mine should be even easier for these fighter mains
50mm R4M was developed to destroy B-17 class bomber with single impact to fuselage or wing. Meanwhile this is on the dev server as it currently exists.
How are the changes? Do bombers feel more realistic now?
And I’m not talking the absolute brutes they were at the start of the dev server
They really haven’t been changed at all. They are as durable as first dev. At most the chance of one catching on fire might be slightly increased.
The video I posted of R4M rockets doing negligible damage is from an hour ago.
I mean… You’re freezing your balls off, you’re getting shot at and you’re dodging fire simultaneously. At the same time, you were probably being shot at by headlight rounds that spooked you even further.
30mm has high “structure” damage, but what we consider “structure” is different than what the pilots and gunners saw as “structure”
Weapon vulnerability report considered this as structure.
So it’s highly likely that, while the wing structures are currently too strong, they shouldn’t just snap like candy because someone gave a relative number like “Ehhh 4-5 shells.”
“Structure” doesn’t count as complete and utter deletion of the wing. I’d assume such an event would be utterly catastrophic. But when you consider we have entire modules, not represented in this game, this is when you begin to see the complexity of what was being dealt with.
Didn’t gaijin also have a system in place before where shots used to remove skin off the aircraft based off where it’s hit for visual effect?
I think now is a time to revamp that because the aircraft are also graphically not representing well how much damage they’re receiving.
Stuff as simple as plexiglass being damaged. But also important stuff like stabilizers, wing ribs and spars.
Sadly, the charts for the exact damage on specific parts and whatnot are completely garbled
Some partially legible.
Bomber interceptor is a type of fighter.
Yeah, but I think we can generally agree current aircraft durability is completely wrong which is especially pronounced with bombers, due to their size.
That’s how it currently works with bigger (I think 15g TNT and up) HE.
Also there’s this theory that wing breaking is there to represent lethal aerodynamic damage, due to instructor being way too effective in compensating for such damage.
Of course once again, current durability is way too low.
Yet another “I haven’t played the bomber” but I want it nerfed for easy kills POV. You just totally disqualified your post. Fly one so you know how unplayable they have become.
Yeeeeeeah… about that… Ramming attacks from anything short of a B-57B do basically nothing to the bombers, it’s very ridiculous right now.
MiG-15 in a head on to the wings? - Nothing.
262 in a side on attack hitting between the tail and wings? - Nope.
F-8 crusader to the face? - Even less than nothing.
Rocket direct impacts are super weak too. HVARs, RP-3, Triplex RP-3, and Zunis are all far too large for a bomber to simply shrug off with minor damage or a few fires.
Multiple hits from smaller rockets like SNEB and Mighty Mouse are somewhat effective. Until you factor in the areas that actually will give an immediate kill are small and must be precisely aimed for. Anywhere else is a few fires.
Manually guided AAMs like AA.20 and X-4 can be effective if you manage to direct hit them on the area between the outer engine and inner engine. Most of the time you only get fires that go out.
Self guiding AAMs require 2 to 4 hits to kill. Even quite large ones like R-27ET.
By far the best weapon to instantly put a B-29 down is KH-38MT. Reliably kills with one weapon hit.
Guns are a waste of time unless you have multiple high HE content guns with good velocity, filler and volume of fire or smaller very fast firing guns with high accuracy, penetration and volume of fire.
Triple 37mm on La-200 worked well, MiG-15 2x23 and 1x37 was about half the La-200 and quad 23mm required multiple ammo loads and precise aim.
BK50 had very bad performance in my tests with all ammo types. Soviet 45mm was okay, in one ammo load it could kill one and a half bombers if hitting in the right areas. Sh-37 and M10 37mm on ITP-M1 and P-63C would explode their bombs or cut their tail off more often than doing nothing. ADEN and DEFA would also explode their bombs for an instant kill regularly.
For fast firing guns, the best performer was F-82’s beam laser, firing through the whole fuselage with AP to get the pilots.
For GRB these bombers will basically be 100% impossible to prevent from getting to the battlefield and dropping their payload for the majority of fighters. You either pilot snipe them or lose the game, nothing in between.
ARB will probably have an easier time since bombers can’t really singlehandedly end a game just by dropping one bomb, but they will still take forever to kill.
I expect them all to end up getting uptiered significantly if their performance continues like this.
40kg TNT warhead
So now is probably time to fix them and make them behave like actual m-shells, I guess
I have also noticed that damage does very little to impact the controllability of bomber aircraft. They don’t really suffer from severe asymmetric thrust without rudder, loss of horizontal stabilizers and flaps, loss of vertical stabilizer and asymmetric thrust or removal of all control surfaces on one side with significant wing skin damage too.
I would expect all of these to readily make the aircraft uncontrollable, to the point of even departing controlled flight.
