Lol, he quite literally said that the round on the display is DM63, and DM83 was only mentioned as an upcoming advanced KE round for the future.
Turns out, people here have worse attention spans than Gold Fishes and hear only what they want to hear, not what is actually being said.
edit: he also called DM83 a joint-development but that couldn’t be farther from the truth, the British are practically not involved in its development, seeing as Rheinmetall has stated that they’ve already got a configuration that they wanna use (late 2022) and since the projectile is in its qualification stages at this point in time, any sort of collabration would amount to only local co-production, rather than development because the British joined in on it way too late.
He literally physically taps the shell and says “and then we have this advanced kinetic energy round round which is going to be coming into service, which is the DM83”
It isn’t mentioned as some kind of hypothetical future shell, he is clearly inferring that the shell sitting there is DM83, otherwise why literally point at it and tap it while talking about it?
“Which is going to be coming into service” makes complete sense even if it was a real shell because the Challenger 3 isn’t even in service yet, no other British vehicle uses 120mm smoothbore ammo. He could have said the same for DM63 and it be true, DM63 is not yet in service with the British Army.
This isn’t a comprehension error, this is at most the video being incorrect which it certainly could be, you don’t need to infer that everyone who disagrees with you is stupid.
its rather obvious rheinmetall wouldnt give a cutout shell of DM83 to anyone not even germany yet who is the principal customer, and less to be showed to everyone that’s too obvious to be DM63 one of the major differences its the lenght, and that shell is just as long as a DM63 and not 754 mm in lenght
thats propably the only true statement of the video.
because the joint development part is ehhh wonky at best as well and mostly for politicals sake.
Uk is mostly just buying the DM83
I literally said the video is probably wrong, I’m just saying that if you were to believe what the presenter in the video is saying you would be reasonable to assume that is a DM83 sitting there
And he points to a shell that clearly isn’t DM83, because the round in question is DM63, at the same time, he called the simulator round, the RH60, a “DM63”.
So rather than the video being blatantly wrong, it seems he’s got confused, but y’all took what he had said at complete face value without questioning it in the slightest.
Secondly, a projectile can be accepted for service before the vehicles are (LKE II had been qualified for sevice under the designation DM53 before Leopard 2A5 did for example). He did say “DM63 is currently in service”, and only the DM83 is “coming into service”. The only truthful and noteworthy part of it is that Britian will acquire DM83 for their Chally 3s.
The fault is on him or higher ups if the video is incorrect, he is an official military employee
I simply shared what was said in the video, I did not misunderstand it, I’m not an expert on 120mm tank ammunition. If its incorrect someone can correct the video, that is the purpose of this forum, to discuss the Challenger 3.
If I had posted it on reddit and claimed it was DM83 then maybe, but I didn’t, I posted it to a discussion thread.
I’m not arguing that the shell is DM83, im simply saying that it was reasonable for someone to assume it was based on what he said.
In terms of the joint development thing, if the UK is paying to assist the development then I think its fair to say the UK is involved in its development. The shell being developed by Germany, Britain or both literally does not matter (to us) and is just nit picking. The fact its being used on the Challenger 3 is what is important.
welcome to the future, Allied countries specialize in things their country needs. Britain being an island focuses less on ground combat and more on Naval, Air, space and information.
AMETEK signed a contract with the MoD in 2022 to supply new cooling fans for the HAAIP upgrade (part of the Challenger 3 mobility upgrade).
Their linkedin has this diagram showing what appears to be a CR2 Black Night (which I believe was intended to have the HAAIP upgrade) with some of their products around it, including cooling fans. Of course this dosen’t mean for certain they were going to put them in it, its just interesting.
Perhaps the different engine sound is coming from these newer fans? The actual engine sounds similar, but the fan sound is a bit different, however its very subjective.
