Challenger 2 Overhaul

that controversy annoys me so much. People’s knowledge of nuclear really is just from The Simpsons isnt it?

Pretty much lol. There are export rounds they could give the challenger 2 as well to even the playing field. Afterall, its a game not a real life simulator . So you could even sdd the L28A2.

Also to state, the Ukrainians are using challenger 2, they wouldnt care if its l26, l27 or l28 as long as it kills tanks

They could… but the question is. Will it do anything?

IRL, the DU L27A1 is better except at a very specific range iirc.

In-game… I honestly dont if it would be better or worse or exactly the same. But overall I dont think its worth the fight. Ready rack fixes, armour fixes, engine fixes, etc etc will have a far more significant impact

Please bear in mind here, I have scant evidence for this, only passing remarks have been said about this. There were some remarks that in L28A1 and L28A2, the spin effect of the rifled barrel was reduced further which may increase penitration. I wish I had a proper source for this, but details on the l28 rounds in minimum.

Do we know anything about L28A2 though?

currently the game uses stats of the XL27, as for now we dont actually know how long L27a1 is, we just know that it was 10mm’s better than M829A1 (as both were tested with the same parameters)

we know the final thickness atleast, from CHARM 3 studies into the whole radiactivity debacle it gave us the value of 25mm (compared to the 26mm of the XL27 prototype shell)

(from Characterisation of depleted uranium (DU) from an unfired CHARM-3 penetrator E.R. Trueman , S. Black *, D.)

beware that both were tested at T-72 ufp angle, aka 68-68.5 degrees angle, just so the numbers dont feel too disconnected to reality

All we really know is that it was renamed to l23a2. passing remarks on reducing spin caused by the rifled gun. very little.

are these declassified entirely?

all these pics are from older cr2 bugreport forums here in warthunder, so pretty much

tho its kinda hard to get info on them as you physically need to go to archival places n ask to search for it n pay to take pics of it

We live in the world when Coelian and Tiger 105 gets buffed ammo because they would use “improved guns” or “improved late war ammo” while Challenger2s cant get spallliners, bigger ready rack or proper ammo it could’ve used or what. Welcome into War Thunder

How reload from this first stage ammo rack is faster than reload from turret bustle ammo rack is beyond me. " First stage" is literally behind the loader, so he needs to turn back, pick up a sabot, hit turret side with the head few times and then load when he have everything literally at the hands from bustle and turret floor charges rack

I ve watched few videos of Chally 2 loaders at work. its indeed faster but man every time they lap load the first shot and the guy I ve seen did it in like 3-4 seconds at best. I think If we have Abrams that can load up 20kg shells in 5 sec and maintain it for entire rack, Challenger 2 loader can keep that speed up as well.

Gaijin claims they dont want to model lap loading, which is very unfortunate because lap loading is correct procedure in the CR2 (as the shot is comparatively light and there is no risk from holding it). The ability to safely and consistently lap load is exactly why the challenger’s RoF irl is so high.

As they treat China and Japan and the United States, this is not a bug.
