Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 2)

It’s not the first nor the last time gaijin has confused the terms “blatant historical inaccuracy” and “suggestion”

What BR would Challenger 2 be if…

it got 730mm pen L27A1 with anti ERA tip,
600mm upper hull armor,
600mm mantlet armor,
regenerative steering,
general buffs to steel thickness across hull sides and roof,
composite roof armor,
complete spall liner coverage,
4 second reload,
TES package with actual kinetic protection,
HESH round that worked like a HESH round,

hmm, I wonder…

For one thing I can think of at least 2-3 regular RuMain forumites who would explode. So the price of admission would be worth any BR increase.

Gaijin HQ would probably get a palletload of beer delivered to them in Rus…ahem… Hungary out of appreciation.

In all other respects?

It would still be big, fairly slow and require the same methodical approach that the current CR2 needs to avoid getting blapped. It wouldn’t singlehandedly break an entire BR bracket anyway (cough …unlike other additions we could mention…cough).

Imagine also HAAIP (with 1500hp), gen 3 thermals (Catherine MP), ROSY (LWS and more smokes) and maybe even MEDUSA (as a 6th Challenger in between the TES and BN)

Either L27a1 is underperforming or the t80u UFP is overperforming.

I can see how this puts them in a sticky situation…

Either they admit they have been consistently wrong for the last 5 years or double down and lie about how “Soviet science is the best in the world” or something like that.

and so they turn the blind eye to both of them.

easier than fixing the issue

They’ve been running with British engineers are simply incompetent since Challenger 1 was introduced to the game.

I believe the MOD report more than i do Gaijin, especially as they have a t80u with kontact 5 to test against, pull apart, hold as many rulers up to as they need to as many times as they want to for any future revisions and research

Unfortunately the only incompetent people in Britain are the politicians and MoD and treasury and fleet admirals and field marshalls and Air chief marshals and…

Im really not looking forward to 3BM60 going through the Challenger 3s armour like butter but DM83 non-penning Relikt and K5 because “Gaijin are master engineers and know more than primary documents”

Challenger 2 Trunnion pins missing.

why they removed the trunnion pins only ? why not remake the trunnion pins to fix the issues ?

Can you actually prove under what conditions and exactly how this internal testing was conducted? You keep demanding more documents and claiming our report lacks specifics, yet your only justification is “we tested it and it doesn’t work.” Why don’t you just release the exact data showing how you measured that the L27A1 can’t penetrate the T-80U?

This information needs to be provided because there are doubts as to HOW its able to defeat a round specifically designed to go through it. One or the other is wrong and we need to figure out which, because there are contradictions. Without the documents and testing done by Gaijin its hard to believe everything is “correct”

Either Kontact-5 is modelled incorrectly, or L27a1 is. We need to know which in order to bug report things accurately.

Quite frankly it sounds like Gaijin have done a spot of ‘Decision-Based Evidence Making’.

I’m stealing that phrase.

I would heavily doubt the 600mm mantlet armor tbh but yea.

And now imagine a correctly modeled Leopard 2A7V…

500-550 is more realistic, but there’s a lot of steel in that mantlet. It was deemed inefficient in armour protection in comparison to MLI (as its mostly steel and therefore very heavy) and at high risk of firepower kill due to the TOGS being right on the gun (loss of the TOGS would be considered a firepower kill), but there’s no real reason to suggest it being so astoundingly thin.

Go for it - I first heard it from someone in the Forces.

Although I think Gaijin should really have it as something of a Corporate Tagline by this point…

I remember someone saying it lacks general thickness in game as the coaxial machine gun isn’t even modeled long enough. Where those two wedges are beside the togs I swear it was in the range of 500mm to 600mm.
