Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 2)

it still annoys me to no end that gaijin removed the 1500hp engine of the 3TD it was one of the very few things that made it actually playable

The engine can be uprated to 1500 stock, the HAAIP doesnt give it more hp but just allows it to use said hp without melting into a puddle. So maybe the wording around it wont specifically say increase in hp. Might just be something to keep an eye out for as wording will be what fcks us over.

They did it from WORD OF MOUTH. which under their own rules isn’t acceptable evidence! If we provided that same evidence for a buff, it wouldn’t have been accepted because it wouldn’t have been reliable, so WHY was it accepted for a nerf? THAT is what urks me about it. The fact they went against their own rules to nerf it.

Yes but word of mouth from a man in the government. As we all know the government won’t lie to us

ah yes. a man in the government surely knows more about the vehicles than people who have proved they have served on them. smh. (i know, sarcasm)

Person was also an advocate for using the CAT power pack over the Perkins.

They had a grievance and Gaijin took a twitter post as real life source

CAT? Is that the MTU engine?

Not sure, it currently hasnt been chosen

“Perkins Engines Company Limited… has been a subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. since 1998.”

The side composite add on the Challenger mk.3 and 2 (Dorchester 2E i think) states it has 400mm of heat protection yet the protection analysis shows just around 260mm, is that a bug with the protection analysis or a bug in the armor? (and testing with KE ammo shows just a 10mm increase rather than 30mm)

At this point, could be either. Checking in game would be the best idea.

the x-ray values are manually entered values rather than the calculated values in protection analysis.

both the mk.3 and CR2 have 255mm CE protection @ 0 degrees with a cap of 350mm.

its also worth noting that protection varies a lot depending on where you aim on the side, the upper section that covers the fuel tanks has a lower value in protection analysis than the area that covers the running gear.

side ERA code

Makes sense a uniform block has varying levels of armour.

So the 400mm CE and 30mm KE values shown in the xray are just nonsense? Should i make a bug report?

It’s dynamic I think it shows the maximum protection level and then when you start to do ammo analysis it shows the protection for that specific round.

The statcard values are just general values input by gaijin.

For example, CONTACT-5 on the statcard provides 120mm of KE protection. However, at a flat angle, it only actually provides 50mm. Dynamic armour like ERA and composite can’t really be well represented by a single statcard number, its just a very rough protection estimate.

Basically, don’t worry about the statcard values, they are meaningless.

which bit are you referring to?

Guy mentioned the value increase or decreases depending on the spot you choose (top or bottom) on a block that is uniform in thickness.

ah, that’s because protection analysis also includes what’s behind the block, which gaijin then uses for the intended protection levels, and you know what they’re like for STANAG add-on.

it also means that there’ll be a specific point on the side that will be used to check those intended levels, and other areas may have less or more protection.

So does the challenger 2 get it’s 1200 horsepower engine after upgrades or has the tank been nerfed in to the ground by bias?
