Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 2)

The only caviat I place there though, is that whilst the Arietes are much weaker defensively. they are hella strong glass canons with good mobility (relatively speaking) and 5 second reload DM53.

Ah yeah…

basically, they liked the engine so they kept just using the same engine from the Chieftain (iirc) but the CR2 also wieghts 70Ts. So… its a little down on power.

Someone else with more knowledge can probably do a better explanation than that though.

Your best bet, is to place the support role. cover the flanks and push more slowly. Though whilst Id be confident in giving you help for the Typhoon or HMS Hood, I shall refrain from giving too much for the CR2 as ground is not a gamemode i Play hugely often

Definitely not the same engine.

The establishment finally learned that you let leyland design an engine and the ch1 and 2 have Perkins/caterpillar engines.

I thought it was or something along the lines.

They didnt want to upgrade to a more powerful engine because they liked the reliability/fuel swapping of the engine they already had.

Ah it was just the CR1 and CR2 that shared the engine, not the Chieftain, no idea where I got that from then.

Were also debating absolutely minute differences like a 0.5 second reload, slight armour etc.

Perkins CV12 =/= Leyland L60

Yeah, It was just CR1 and CR2. I dont know why I thought the Cheiftains used something similar.

You can tell because the challengers don’t cause an environmental disaster when they move with all the smoke.

the Perkins CV12 @ 800hp was offered for some of the later Chieftain upgrade packages, and the Khalid’s entire gimmick is having a CV12. so probably from there.

Triad out the Cr2’s again man, pff its just silly, the chinese MBTs are substantially more fun even with all their issues

Ngl i do like the the VT4A1 and the ztz99 II & III

didnt the Chally 2 used to have like a 20 round first stage, why was it nerfed?

and was the nerf realistic?

I do not know if they ever had the correct ready rack size, but we have year+ old reports to fix it

The best guess is that it was used to mitigate the 5 second reload which we once had as a buff/advantage over other nations to help balance the other weaknesses we have.

But these days, 5 seconds is the average and yet the ready rack nerf remains and if anything, the CR2 has become (relatively speaking) weaker than it has ever been

The Challenger 2E honestly gives the Arietes a run for their money, yes the power to weight isnt as good but the top speed of 72kph compared to the 65kph (even on the AMV) does make a difference.

I think Britain would really be helped by another Challenger 2E in the tree such as the 2E Early, it would give Britain an extra fast 12.0 vehicle

Perhaps.

It’s a shame the CR3TD lost its 1500 HP engine because at the time of the “TD” 1500HP was planned and the CR3(P) should have had the 1200HP instead.

It really was

The CR 3(P) was still going to have the 1500hp engine and the TD was just a prettied up CR2 with a few visual differences to show that there was an idea and that the RBSL thing wasn’t just a bullshitting waste of money

And yet it’s somehow worse than the cr2s in game.

Even the base model cr2 is better than the cr3td
