Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 1)

I hope one day it will be. Well, imma just watch in it the future for some changes

I find it pretty insane how the TES armor hasn’t been fixed or the fake ammunition positions haven’t been removed yet, despite the overwhelming evidence and the 10 minutes it would take to do this.

For the TES armor - it’s a textfile editing, changing the name, the modifiers and the protection values to match ASPRO-HMT.

For the Ammo: it’s 3D modelling in a new low poly ammo rack for CR2 (wouldn’t take even an hour in CAD), and moving some shells. Then deleting the old ammo racks that’ve been proven to not exist.

These changes should have come this update, it’s nuts.

other British issues: first time ?

The whole tech tree is in shambles, imo

Just CR2 alone should have:
Better mobility
Much more cheek, UFP and mantlet protection
TES should have better LFP and ERA should compensate for ~1200mm of CE protection and ~84mm KE
Challenger 2F ERA should be far more capable than what it is (currently cannot even survive RPG-7)
All CR2s have wonky ass transmission
CR2 reload should be an entire second or two lower
CR2 first stage replenishment is the longest of all MBTs but has the charges and shot closest to the compartments, making 0 sense.
CR2 has madeup ammo racks that consistantly get the tank killed
CR2 should have almost exclusively wet ammo bins and be extremely hard to cook off
CR2 should have 50 projectiles and 50 charges at least. Currently somehow is able to fire more rounds than it has complete in the tank
CR2 crew positions sit far too high and should be lower to be directly behind the strikeface of the turret
CR2E possibly should have far greater mantlet armor owing to the lack of TOGSII thermal imager cabling and assembly
Fuel detonation in CR2 should be borderline impossible as the fuel is in external tanks
Depending on what they claim the TES netting is, TES should have lower thermal signiture than normal CR2.

I’m certain i’ve missed issues too, but that’s just CR2 alone.
Not to mention Stormer HVMs sorry state, ADATs being borderline useless, etc etc

Those issues should be resolved when

the light tanks line arrives.

HOPE SO

Nope. Adding new things and fixing old at the same time? Nu uh

Gaijin confirmed light tanks line around 4 years
probably impossible haha

It was confirmed years ago. We will get it untill 2030. I think?

sounds like classic schedule for British

2F’s got ERA?

Yeah, the 2F has additional armor packages you can load which give it slat armor on the back, ERA on the turret cheeks and hull sides, and a package on the front which I think is NERA

Sorry to dissapoint, but (it is the same nera as on Chally 1 mk.3)

Weird, thought that changes with the armor package, my bad. The ERA on the cheeks still stands

Pretty sure they’re still the placeholder “ERA”

You mean this?

No shit, that’s supposed to be NERA too? That doesn’t sound right. Well “right” as in: Inaccurate to IRL, not ingame.

The 30mm/400mm values, i’m fairly sure are just made up placeholders.

TES has nera here too

I will ignore the fact that NERA block at the front (should be Chobham, just like those on the side and turret, but who cares :) ) have different armor values between 2F and TES, dispite beeing the same thing

Given that those thin little bricks of NERA (which i’m almost sure they’re ERA irl), have 30/400 and the giant blocks on TES is also 30/400, same as the thin plates on 2F is 30/400

It’s a really low effort placeholder value by Gaijin, who is gravely misunderstanding the brochure of Armor Shield R, which even funnier - Challengers don’t use. They use ASPRO-HMT.

It’s nuts, man. Even just looking at their thickness difference, I can’t see how Gaijin even remotely justifies this

2F

TES

It is variable, so there are even more flowers there.

IIRC these bricks are made from Chobham armor, not era.
