Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 1)

  1. I love your name.

  2. yeah, exactly. if the numbers are going to be “made up due to classified values” , they can at least make the values be competitive to what BR they decide to give it.

Those numbers are not made up. Its the physically numbers taken from in-game after the remodel and accounting for angles and armour material.

Everything is already in the game for the Challenger 2 mantlet to be good. yet its still SOMEHOW 240mm.

but they make no sense, so they must be made up x’D - that or pulled out of a magic hat where accurate calculations dont add up.

If you can understand my diagram’s nonsense.

well I see the problem. The armor isn’t made of stalinium, or germanium, so it gets a 400mm de-buff. x’D

All the plates are there yet we still have 240mm.

I just don’t get it.

have you bug reported it with pictures, etc? if not you should.

Reports have already been submitted. Pretty sure they were denied or acknowledged limbo.

Sounds about typical. I’ve put in a few reports, and they haven’t even been looked at from months ago. Hopefully they will get escalated, and the tank will get an appropriate buff; though knowing gaijin “it will be a buff in some places and a nerf in others” - as they quote.

What did we get for trying to fix the Challenger?

The TES backing plate was made aluminum with no evidence. In short, made worse.

The Challenger 3 (TD) had its blowout panels and all spawl liner removed too. The ERA on the sides was cut down in strength against chemical, the CH3 engine was nerfed ((BY WORD OF MOUTH WITH LITTLE TO NO CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE)) and I’m sure many other negatives came from the player base trying to get it fixed, and gaijin implementing it the wrong way too.

But then Britain dont have a top tier tank.
Thats why his idea on decompression falls flat at the first hurdle.

Followed by constant “When are Britain getting a top tier tank?”

CR2 needs a complete rework, which Gaijin have carried out and during that they added additional weight and didnt change any of the armour.

Thats if they give the 40mm CTAS the ammo and penetration it should have.
The DW was a joke again a light tank with the mobility of a heavy tank.
A main gun and round lacklustre and its party trixk being the TOW 2B another weapon system poorly modelled.

If Gaijin always planned to f. Britain so hard, they should have given us an M1 or Leopard 2 and be done with it.

I know that the rework killed most of the will to do thing, but is there anything that needs reporting?

When are we getting a top tier tank? A few years perhaps with the CR3 but Gaijin will grossly fuck that up and make it garbage, so actually never.

What the Challengers need is Gaijin to actually give a damn about their game for once. Arietes, Challengers and Merkavas are not top tier worthy and should be lowered accordingly.

They are treated worse then an abandoned dying dog. Any attempts at getting any miniscule improvement is shat on and thrown away like a used tissue.

That decompression would be lovely. I think at this point, most people would be content with not having a top tier tank because it will be garbage anyway.

Let the actual good top tier tanks play at their tiers and then the sub-par MBTs have their own tier where they are able to do something for once.

I agree but there has to be an end game, Gaijin want players to have a reason to grind to the “top”
We currrenly have fanstastic CAS options, No light tanks to support that and a Maus masquerading as a CR2/CR3.

CR3 Unfortunately will be a mitigated disappointment to both the British Army and War thunder players.
They are watching what’s happening with modern tanks in combat. And the procurement defence committees refuse to adapt to it. It will have a 1200HP engine for “reliability.” It will not have an APS system to begin with (likely hastily bought and installed if Britain ever needs to go to war again)

The gun and optics will be on a par with other top tier nations.

These are all minimum requirements! It will still require additional armour to provide the necessary levels of protection.

This was by far the most egregious change i’ve seen. On what evidence? Gaijin provided no sources whatsoever, and the only source I’ve seen referring is one from a book that iirc Devil has, stating very clearly it had a Steel Backing Plate

Not to mention Gaijin going “bbbut it meets STANAG Level 5!” when it very clearly didn’t.

yea they gave it 1500hp based on speculation about what the production vehicle would have, and most sources are pointing to it staying at 1200hp with some speculation about a limited upgrade to 1350.

Spoiler

the “but we’d always welcome more BHP!” sounds like the upgrade was still up in the air. I think other reasons for the 1500hp speculation are the engine darasheet you can find online, and the clip of the CAT representative saying that an upgrade to 1500hp is possible.

Except there’s the potential (if Gaijin chooses, which they have decided against for whatever reason) to have 1500hp on the 3TD.

Either that, or communication within the Armed Forces is so appalling that QRH genuinely believed they were getting a tank with 1500hp and didn’t know otherwise until we did (which from personal experience, does seem plausible)

I justified this - unless QRH were being blatantly lied to about the hp that HAAIP provided, or they were limiting the enginepower available after the powerpack upgrade (seems daft but not unheard of), there should’ve been a point where there were multiple CR3 Prototypes/CR2 HAAIPs with that 1500hp. And it wasn’t just a one off, iirc British Army had an article going from 2022, a year before that tweet, announcing that work to bring 6 CR2 hulls to HAAIP standard had begun.
