Looks like it was hit by the version of the lancet drone with the heat warhead. And the armour stopped it which is really good but i wonder how much RHA a lancet drone with a heat warhead can pen ??
hes just the typical “there are 3 main attributes to tanks” guy like most, if thats how you look at a weapons system as complex as a tank you have no idea how military’s work
i would assume its a kornet warhead (just comparing to a switchblade type) so probs 1000RHA ish pen
Looks to me like a challenger 2 has indeed been destroyed. You can tell by the styling of the thermal sleeve and gun calibration laser on the muzzle, also looks like its togs sight under the branches at the back.
Lancet drone hit it, can’t officially say if it has been totally destroyed but it definitely looks like it.
why is there only a picture of the gun, where the hull and turret. With all the “we destroyed 20 patriots and a himars on the 3rd floor” and the like i’d rather see the actual tank not potentially a replacement barrel that’s transport got hit. i would assume the tank itself would be close by but only the gun?
Good point. But I think I can see the turret metal under the branches and the togs sight is definitely there
thats a bit of a stretch. If i have learnt anything from this war its that one side (rhymes with Usha) is all about disinformation and spinning a narrative (make other countries supporters think twice) so until i see the actual hull/turret i wont believe it and if i see the hull fine its true but in this case showing a video with shitty quality with quick cuts and a barrel, yeah im not going to hold my breath when its something that takes 2 seconds to prove with 0 doubts
also the CR2 turret is huge, what you see here is small enough to be obscured by a branch and the angles are wrong for the under the composite for the turret. Again im not trying to be a “reee CR2 is invincible” person it isnt but this is just to fishy. a video that cuts out right as the lancet hits, a picture of a barrel but not the actual tank. all it would take is 10 more seconds of video that WOULD have been recorded and for the person taking this picture to take a pic of the burnt out tank within 50m of this barrel
true yeah, it is fishy. I don’t know why they couldn’t just move the damn branches or take a closer picture. The size of the turret may be caused by the FOV and it being angled back, the branch seems to be leaning off to the side across the turret armour. I’m gonna call it though I see a TOGS 2 sight there so in my opinion it is a CR2 with its turret blown off. Will more than happily accept people telling me I was wrong.
it just seems off, i can kind of make out the TOGS. could be some weird propaganda with mockups or it could be real but the lead up to this is just weird and missing the confirmation i.e video cuts out before you can confirm anything. wait and see i guess
At the end of the day even if it was a lancet drone that destroyed the tank, it doesn’t really change much. It’s a top attack weapon, last time I checked challenger was an MBT, meaning relatively weak roof armour. We don’t get depressed about a hellfire killing us in war thunder from the top so I don’t really get what the great propaganda win is. It’s just something to feed to stupid people.
Its war, tanks arnt invincible and the CR2 was designed before top attack missiles were a threat. the long and short of the propaganda is tanks get over hyped they get lost and then that one country want people to think its not worth “wasting” these vehicles so in turn they want them to pull support.
There is another way to look at this.
Possibly from a Ru point of view -a modern NATO tank is so terrifying (think the bogeyman with tracks) that every time one of these monsters is dispatched - a national holiday is declared by Ivan.
Why else the desperation to show ‘look, you see! we CAN sometimes kill them!’. It’ll take about 12 years at this rate, but eventually we’ll get them all! Even if we are now down to T-34s and Mosin Nagants…’
A Western MBT will more often than not see you in your T-72/T-80 before you see it. It’ll likely get the first shot off as a result, usually from a longer range than the Russian tanks typically engage at. The FCS fitted to any Leopard, Abrams or Challenger will likely land that first shot. I certainly wouldn’t want to be within 3 miles of a CR2 if I were a Tankerski.
Hence why even the prospect of even one being taken off the board gets so much attention from certain quarters.
Lancet uses engineering cumulutive charge with 215mm pen
wow i honestly thought they would go the American route of take the javelin warhead and put it in a fixed wing drone aka the switchblade
Switchblade 300 uses a 40mm equivalent warhead, Switchblade 600 uses a Javelin warhead.
Apparently it’s possible to have an even larger warhead on the Switchblade 600, too.
This does appear from what is visible to be more likely than not a challenger 2 turret, regardless of the coping elsewhere in this thread.
Well at least challenger 3 has blowout panels.
Turret blow out panels wouldn’t change anything here I don’t think, most tanks with blowout panels still contain some ammo in the hull. As far as CR2 is concerned it doesn’t actually have any volatile munition stored in the turret so I wouldn’t say this event proves the original design is flawed.
Leo 2 with almighty blowout panels as an example.
All this event has shown is that top attack weapons are the bane of tanks. If they could store all ammo within the blowout panel zone then yeah it may have been saved.
id call it taking anything that a certain country tries show with very sketchy evidence with a grain of salt, also not saying a challenger 2 was not destroyed just that if they can take that picture or a video from a drone its really easy to show that its actually destroyed not cut out a video at the moment of impact or a picture covered by alot of bush its literally less effort to show conclusive evidence. either way its a tank, tanks are not invincible they are a tool
Why go to the effort though CR2 has already been destroyed the one we see explode is in a heavily wooded area covered in bushes…This one is also covered in bushes found in a wooded area.
