Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 1)

Hull is not getting the upgrade in armor afaik, or it would be too havy to sustain itself
Also external armor is epsom, internal is farnham

It isn’t they say improved armour but I suspect that that means some sort of minor add-on armour kit. Maybe some sort of improved Dorchester.

Hmm, first time I’m hearing that tbh.

TBF I’d rather they gut it. Save actual money and then come back with More money later.

It weights 72 or 73t with new turret…

External is EPSOM, internal Farnham

It costs more to start from scratch than to drag it along by the ear just enough that it moves its feet.

I think they just need to pull a Germany and give them a 100bn investment and also design stuff for export and import.

I honestly have no idea about these companies but thanks haha.

Not companies, armor names, just like Dorchester or Chobham (equivalents in Cr2)

Eh? That’s gotta be with add-on armour though.

Naked LEP is supposed to be only slightly heavier than the standard Chally 2:

That shows how much I know…

Oh, i see. 1t heavier using the brochure.

Oh that would be the ideal solution. Don’t get me wrong.

I’m just of the opinion that the armoured development of the UK needs a solid kickstart again. As with most of the UK’s native defence companies. The L85 is a prime example of gutting an industry and then having it make the same quality as before one a hamstring of the experience and capacity.

My thoughts are just hard restart on the challengers. New hull. And fitted around the L55. Most of the electronics and other smaller components are there. But it would allow for a fundamental redesign of the machine.

Circa a centurion situation. That thing was built from the lessons do the second world war and variants of it are still in use to this day.

Edit: Hence my take of. Just stop throwing money at extending the life of it. Let it die and then come back with what your learned from the experience of maintaining it. I.E. making it less of a pain to future proof.

New hull should be better protected, optimised for storing nato 120 rounds and fitted with new cooling system allowing for the stupid backwards compatibility with CV12, as they cant move on

IMO just go for the EuroPowerPack, since it seems both the French and Germans are planning on equipping their ultimate versions of the Leopard 2 and Leclerc with it, use the opportunity to get higher part commonality with them.

That would be the best, but MOD seems to love the CV. IDK why, but UK MoD is illogical

If we’re getting the Lep I do wonder what there doing for ammo capacity because IIRC it never had the hull modified for storage yet. It was all bustle rack ammo and a very limited amount.

Thats the clip

Yep, but i do not think we have any info about the ammo count in LEP

Technically speaking, both. Right now the LEP seems to be using a copy of the Leopard 2s turret rack modified for DM11 that is collapseable (basically the storage bins can fold one into another), so it has 15 rounds in the turret. I’m assuming they will store the rest on the sides of the driver then.
