Here’s a photo I found, uploaded to someone’s private blog. It shows a glimpse into the seem between Middle plate 2 and rear plate. There does indeed appear to be an airgap present.
So! Here’s where we’re at: The current game’s implementation is wrong, as it has it go:
Hull > Plate > Airgap > ASPRO-HMT
it should instead go
Hull > Airgap > Plate > ASPRO-HMT as ASPRO needs a solid flat surface to mount to and be flush.
Case closed.
@Gunjob any chance this information can be added to Community Bug Reporting System? The current implementation is still incorrect.

So the issue here now is the current game has the array backwards.
it should be ASPRO mounted flush to the base plate, and the airgap flush with the hull, rather than ASPRO mounted to the shroud, airgap and then plate and hull.
