As far as I know it doesn’t, once you mix in any shell that is HE Smoke, HESH etc etc with a Kinetic round it will make the whole rack explosive, even if its depicted as a solid shell.
So when playing the challys it’s best to leave hesh at home, if you bring only darts your less likely to suffer an ammo rack?
Yes, I’ve ditched all other shell types.

made a report because Challenger 1 mk 3 and DS have the wrong ammounition storage bins
Community Bug Reporting System @Flame2512 Nice report, lets hope it actually gets implimented
Well it got forwarded to devs so we can only hope
Hopefully one day we actually find out the armour layout similar to the chieftain modification
@Gunjob has this photo been posted before, it’s primarily for the challenger 1 bin storage locations?
wasn’t the challenger 1 so shit they had to make the second one?
Not really, was good. It was just getting old and was major concern it was going to be massively outclassed by future soviet designs pretty quickly
Just casually holding the worlds longest tank on tank kill for about 30 years … yeh defo a shit tank XD
thats form the earlier chally 1 mk 1/2 versions, you can see the old grp bins. The chally 3 had different ones, as i explained in my report which i linked a bit above, which sadly still hasnt been passed XD
the mk3 u mean ?? coz in game the mk2 still has chieftain style bins with 1 in the middle in game
yes the mk 3 sorry XD They got armored bins to replace the grp bins after chieftain vunrability trials. Instead of providing wet ammo storage they were for splinter protection (10-25mm armored steel) with those new bins, the rear turret charge bin could hold more charges so the right hull charge bin was removed (which already is the case for the chally 1 mk 3 in game)
ahh ok so it seems the mk2s ammo bins might be wrong?
no the mk 2 are acctually right. Some 24 challenger 1 mk 2 were upgraded with a modular solution for the armored bins during operation granby but otherwise they still used the old grp bins
is there a central bin still ?
yes,
here you can see a mk 3
note that the turret floor is rotated(gun would be facing us) hence the 4 round ready storage is on the right in the picture
They were planning to replace it to better counter newer tanks but then it did really well in the first gulf war but challenger 2 was a replacement for chieftain and Challenger 1
chally 1 sadly doenst get its spall liner
