Tbf, it’s off but this is my biggest complaint about Il2:GB
I do NOT feel comfortable using my voice, nor talking to people. There exist about 10 people I am open to hearing my voice, and the only reason anyone outside that group does is because I am forced to in order to get money (I strive to minimize usage through reliance on Teams and e-mails where possible, and being in small & isolated laboratories/offices over the bigger groups). The 10 people or so in question all share a significant amount of camaredie with me over the matters regarding spoken word and exist without judgement and with the patience required for it to not frustrate either party.
Warthunder has pretty nice built in means for people to communicate -
“Follow Me!” : Conveys current grid square and altitude
“Cover me!” : Conveys current grid square and altitude, declares presence of confirmed hostile and that you are on the defensive.
“Leading for Landing”: Conveys current grid square and altitude, apologizes for inability to respond to “Cover Me” due to the fact that you are returning to base OR warns friendlies they’re -1 in the CAP zone and dont expect help. Often combined with “Repairing!” and “Reloading!” or a chat message of “B” for Bingo for fuel.
“Attention to Gridsquare” to request others to use “Follow Me!” if they think they’re in vicinity.
These four things have given rise to plenty of impromptu mutual-support in my experience and led to matches with a ton of fun (like a swarm of mustangs bullying the japanese team into submission. All organized through text chat and the above commands. It was glorious!)
Whereas in IL2, servers like Combat Box basically require you to have voice chat to even take off or land and… No thanks. Why isn’t there a chat command or keybindings for interacting with SRS? Accessibility is important.
Even if I wasn’t averse to hearing my own voice, much less letting others hear it - sensory/verbal/audio processing issues still exist and written communication is both easier and more straightforward than trying to differentiate words against background noise or trying to both form sounds while you’re thinking and engaging in mentally-intense activity.
At least it’s not as important on Finnish Pilots and I can just fly around with text chat without the server complaining I took off without contacting tower on SRS.
Feels like the bomber situation all over again. But this reminds me, Why isn’t their a cas only mode for bombers/attackers? That would also be a pretty good addition along with TO mode.
Like, the fact you equivalate the game players here needing a mode for themselves so much that you tout civil rights matters in real life is astoundingly stupid…
Like, a forum mod should sort this out as your tasteless equivalent is just to shock bomb anything into oblivion, just to be barricading and stop discussion.
Tbf, he does kinda have a point that certain vehicles need modes for themselves.
Again, Look at bombers for example. They used to actually effect a match and have a decent damage model. Now their just paper mache food for anyone that looks at them.
But sense they ended matches too quickly (airfield), some had a death sphere around them (top end bombers), took quite a bit of damage to actually take down, and the average fighter doesn’t have the brain power to not trail behind one while being shot at. It lead to them being nerfed consistently to satisfy the fighter jockeys.
Now their only useful in either Sim with their 3D turret view, or to fool around with.
I’m gonna assume this will eventually will happen to cas in ground battles. Probably when harm missiles come to the game as they will finally be able to counter every ground vehicle with a touch of a button.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Doesn’t change the fact that ARB can serve as an escape for people that don’t want to engage certain type of vehicles though.
Yes, it’s quite amazing how you can get kicked for not communicating. I guess in some games teams are actually supposed to be teams.
I can’t prepare my teammates.
Then don’t play at that time or join a headless chicken server as communication is a very big part of the game.
Not having a mic in Squad is like trying to join the infantry in real life while being mute.
Real life example was used as I thought it was simple enough for you to understand. Game needs obviously fall short of IRL ones but it’s the same thing in the end.
Ground and air vehicles do deserve their own modes, even moreso if one of those already have such a thing.
That’s dismissing the entire point I made about how septic and abusive that mentality can be towards other players because you don’t think that person is trying.
Bad faith rile up nonsense, is all that you using civil rights as a ‘reason’ to keep arguing and making out you’re so hard done by for being bombed…
But I suppose Emmett Till would’ve had so much more chance, had tanks been fighting tanks AMIRITE?
From what I’ve read here you probably have a stutter or something, but it’s not important in the end.
If you’re that determined to not speak I’d bet no comms servers exist, but to me those servers miss the point of the game completely, at least Squad.
Depends on the situation and your levels of language proficiency.
Have fun typing something like “enemy at 11 o’clock in the building on the third floor” while also engaging them at the same time. Reading chat also takes away some of your focus from the thing you’re currently doing.
I was just pointing out the most simple rules and how not obeying might get you kicked. Some games actually impose standards on players that want to play, unlike WT.
Ground units should have the same rights as air ones to play in an interference free mode.
You can report for passive behaviour, but you being bombed doesn’t apply to that.
Emmett Till sure would love those equal rights… Just stop it.
You want to play the game, then there’s the game… You want to change the game to cope, no…
It’s actually horrid that you even put out that civil rights matters were the same as your in game matters… It shows you arent’ mature and really don’t have an argument.
You can edit posts to clarify. I would say there are some other OP CAS but the YAK-9K is indeed the standout here.
And what sweeping balance changes do you expect to come in that gaijin would then not balance? Balancing takes so little time for them and since they have it semi automated probably little to no effort.
Correction: The game is not fun when you die in a manner where you could not have done anything to stop it.
Dying is not fun but if I die because I got flanked, had bad postioning or simply got outplayed it’s not bad. It’s when dying to uncounterable threats that it becomes not fun in the slightest.
I used to play ARMA2, and DayZ mod, don’t even try and come at me with communication or teamwork…
The game is not fun when you die all the time anyway, so what’s the point? Nothing.
And I understand that, but you have to understand that you are wanting a mode, changed, to suit you… That’s how daft this is… No matter if it’s not going to split the playerbase, or if it’s not another mode… You’re still wanting changes made to a mode, JUST FOR YOU… No matter if you proclaim others on, it’s just for you…
Who is the “we”? It should be Players (who find something interesting), but I have a feeling the “we” is the Devs - too lazy to add a mode which would hardly need to be built from scratch.
