How do I play? Score 1 assist, and 2 crits, jump into Fw 190 D9 or F8 and just bomb and strafe people. 50kg bombs work quite well once you lesrn to hit with them (can do that in training without knowing distance, but I’m less lrecise in GRB), but 250, 500 or 1000kg bombs are really nice. Shoot down some planes. Never touch a tank again.
Why? Because playing CAS is easier and more enjoyable, even with ridiculous soviet SPAA 1-shotting planes with a single HE 14,5mm bullet.
Truth is - in planes you very rarely get overwhelmed by enemy numbers, you are not getting spawn-camped or strafed repeatedly. You usually have a good fighting chance to take out at least some enemies, unless you spawn a bomber. But that’s on you.
Spawning SPAA most often just gets you killed. It only makes sense to spawn it if the team is holding on somehow and you don’t have enought points for a plane. But that’s a huge gamble, because unless you’re playing vs Germany, you won’t be meeting many vulnerable targets and destroying barrels also works mostly vs Germany, as other nations shrug off insane amounts of 20-37mm shells.
I mean, sometimes playing wirbel is fun. Most often enemies laugh at you and MG you to death.
Anyone else notice how quiet these WW II planes are? You don’t even know they are attacking until the bullets and shells ruin your vehicle.
I’ve heard WW II planes flying around during airshows - while in my house - and they make a LOT more noise than gaijin attributes to them. And these “muffled engines” seem relatively recent.
They’re currently too loud. When inside 90% of the tanks in War Thunder you shouldn’t be able to hear them with your engine on. You can currently hear them from miles away
You realize many of the spaa are opened-topped right? They should easily hear and be able to locate the oncoming CAS. But as mentioned in my post that does not happen.
You realise I wasn’t talking about them in my post? But yes, I do.
They quite literally can, many times when I’m playing SPAA I’ll hear a plane from behind mountains, aim my cannons towards it and blast him when he comes over the hill. It’s not hard to hear CAS. Tanks, as in enclosed metal beasts with massive engines, shouldn’t be able to hear aircraft when they’re 2 kilometres away.
Almost every post in this thread discusses the spaa vs CAS - because that’s the only counter.
And it’s a complete mis-match between the two at WW II levels.
No idea if you play CAS in GRB (I suspect you do) and I can say there’s no chance we will agree on this issue.
And yet, nearly all games at least half the people will end with >1k spawn points. You RARELY ever use all of your spawn points if you are competent. The idea planes are balanced by their spawn points would only be relevant if it wasn’t trivial to get enough sp in a plane to spawn back in a tank. literally a single kill in most cases. You can suicide bomb right into a target and get enough.
ah yes the ‘know where all planes are before firing’ argument. Just the idea of it is comical.
Planes graphics is the equivalent of ULQ for tanks. Most things don’t render or render with reduced graphics. Most AA <4.0 is trucks which have a very distinctive shape even at range. Above 4.0 you start seeing small tank chassis used with oversized turrets. Again an easy profile to find. Not just that, planes have better optics than almost any AA until radar. Free 6x zoom in most cases, making long range engagements far, far easier than they should be. Its like a bunch of horse archers vs a bunch of spearmen.
‘best’ would be things like the ZSD63, flakpanzer 341, btr 152 ect. Vehicles that either have extremely good autocannons for their BR or are partially resistant to aircraft MGs. Even some of the semi-armored 20mm autocannons like the amx-10p are good enough. But 37mm/40mm/most AA with 50 round clips or worse… hard pass. You may get 1 air kill, then die to the next plane strafing you at 1km away.
‘you can drastically effect the game’ until a competent pilot comes along. Because in a 2v2 or 3v3 with equal skill pilots and SPAA, it isn’t a competition. Planes massacre AA.
Imo, the best AA now aren’t SPAA, its artillery. Once you hit prox rounds, 155s become better than any spaa. You don’t reveal your presence when firing and if a plane is trying to strafe you you can guarentee a kill before they can get within ordinance launch ranges. I have 7 air kills in my Type 93 in a single game. I’ve only seen that twice in a SPAA in all my games. I have 6 air kills in my bkan in one game.
Show us your use fighter skills, or this could be other senseless complaints, WW2 GRB CAS is much fairer compared to higher BR, radar SPAA almost makes CAS extinguish, and then toptier CAS extinguish almost all spaa
I can track 3 planes, maybe even 4 at a time, just by knowing and seeing who spawned at what time.
This is a reason why calling out air is important, and doing small things, such as actually calling for people to even spawn spaa if they have one because it is needed.
But you have to actually be sure to get them, or a multiple of them to get the SP to continue.
What happens, if you don’t…
This is irregardless of the point raised, the profile doesn’t mean everything much the same as you bringing that, to every thread where this point is raised.
The same thing where KDR don’t mean diddly squat, especially when ‘discussion’ is to be brought forth with demands for ‘proof’.
Remember, there’s not always just one viewpoint, or angle of attack for anything… Sorry that you can’t actually maintain this, without that little poke prior.
