I’m a relatively old player, been playing since 2015 on and off, and I’ve been revisiting some of the low/mid tier props, flying out from 4.0 to 6.3 because of the awful “gameplay” of Top Tier (ARHs and missile combat ruined skilled combat, fight me.).
I remember German mine shells on the MG 151s hitting like absolute trucks at all times. I remember them getting a little funky from when RealShatter messed up the first time, but they got reverted back into the realm of usability. That isn’t the case nowadays though, as it seems like MG151s are really inconsistent with their damage. I can’t link a video because my recording software is buns, but I was flying a Bf 109 G-6, Univ. 13mm and Air 20mm, and I was getting nothing but hits (not even a crit) while squaring off against some La-7Bs. Most I got was a crit on one of them after hitting him in the engine. And that’s when I was able to hit them, with MG 151s being so slow. Hell, any attempt to hit past 600m was a lot more of a gamble than I’d cared to take.
I didn’t think too much of it, maybe thinking other cannons were similarly disadvantaged. F4U-4B and F8F-1B. American M2s shred. They shred. High velocity, high cyclic rate. More likely to get crits (even to body).
Okay, maybe another. Let’s give Russia a try! B-20S/M, Shvaks. Unholy in FI-T. High velocity, high cyclic rate. Same thing, significantly more crits and severes than hits if I don’t outright kill them in one burst.
Hispanos. Hot damn. Same thing. High velocity, high cyclic rate, though they do cause more hits than the M2s or Russian 20s.
Are MG151s kinda bad now? Or am I blinded by nostalgia and remember them being better than they actually were?
(No offense, ragebait, or community is intended, I am purely looking for factual and accurate responses.)
