Can we get more large maps or more map downvote options?

When can i expect to play on a map that doesnt aspire to be the next cod kiddie map? Or can i at least get more ban/downvote options for maps? im tired of playing on maps where the avg kill is 50 yds away with tanks designed to fight targets 1+ miles away.

These maps also limit what vehicles you can pull. I have a atgm carrier that i cant use on 75% of the maps i see in this game.

I don’t care if i have a 5-7 minute queue to play on a map i actually want instead of all these urban short range jungle maps made for cs and cod players

We don’t need larger maps, we need better maps. So many maps fail to provide a good experience.

I dislike this sentiment. It’s very annoying since it is used as a way to shut down conversations about the downsides of larger maps with longer engagement ranges.

I agree with wanting larger maps, but I don’t think we should have more map bans. I feel like the absence of larger maps in the queue is partially attributable to the banning of said large maps, by players that just want a fast CS type match for as much RP and SL per minute as possible. It’s a shame, because maps like Pradesh or Red Desert are my favourite, but they rarely are played.

I agree with this. I’m not a big fan of CQC maps but I’d rather play on a good CQC map than on a pretty bad long range map.

That being said, in my opinion there shouldn’t be such a thing as close or long range map, all maps should contain both. This is to prevent specific vehicles becoming obsolete or really, really hard to play on some maps that don’t offer engagements which suit them.

Might be mean to say but I don’t really care if the people that like cqb maps have to suffer through a larger map sometimes. 75-90% of the maps I end up on I find my self hating more and more because they are all urban/jungle cqb maps. It has been 1-2 years since I have seen red desert despite me marking it as one of my liked maps.

These close maps are fine for late ww2 and down vehicles but anything early cold war on it feels stupid. most of them I would rather run around as a atgm infantry squad or a guy with a rpg sitting in a building waiting for tank to pass by than run around in tank.

You can circumvent Gaijin’s asinine map design by playing CAS only in GRB, it’s the only way I’m having fun with the game right now, playing ground is completely optional and the goal of GRB is to spam CAS as soon as possible.

This how the game was designed in mind btw, and I suggest you try that too, I’m not popping a vein and getting all angry and bitter by trying to move around some urban maze or the game telling me to go back to the battlefield because all the cap zones are at the edges of maps and flanking is not allowed.

I honestly lost all hope in Gaijin after they butchered Tunisia, one of the last remaining sniping maps that made Western tanks and doctrine shine, now it’s just a flattened wasteland. Fire Arc and Maginot Line (500m) and Fulda Gap might be the last long range maps in the game, but I haven’t seen Fire Arc in months, so they might as well have removed it from the MM.

Imagine the dissapointment when you want to play a big german gun withput armor like the Sturer Emil or Waffenträger, only to be hit with Sweden map.
How am i supposed to play Sweden with a Nashorn?
as soon as you try to peek a corner, your barrel and tracks get insta deketed.

We need more ban options, so that if you want to snipe, you can aswell remove narrow cargo port and other dumb stuff.

I see this whine for larger maps all the time, but what actual good large maps has Gaijin made?

All of the large maps seem to have swathes of ODL’s. Pradesh is absolutely abhorrent despite being a large map.

What we need is more maps with multiple engagement options. Aral Sea is my example, whilst it’s not big it offers 3 distinct options gameplay wise. Cover to cover in the West, city fighting in the centre and sniping over in the East.

larger maps wont fix bad design and map flow its that simple.

but more downvotes, bans and favourites would be really nice if you look at how big the mappool is.

whats more annoying is that the same maps are split into different BR’s what results in you not being able to avoid certain maps at all :(

Ekshully… we need larger, better maps. Okay, granted, we need better maps overall, but larger better maps for sure. I mean, the Big Tunesia before The Fuckening™ was actually a decent map, but then they… well… “fixed” it. It’s almost like they really want to groove on this “we suck at making half-decent maps” vibe.

Pradesh is a prime example of a really bad large map where nobody apparently playtested it even a little bit, or figured out that if you can shoot spawn to spawn, 99% of the playerbase will suddenly turn into full on rat goblins that will actually do that. And the rest of the map design, well, the only thing it’s got going for it is CAS has a very nice little bucket full of little fishies to shoot and the fishies can’t really shoot back all that much.

Big Tunisia before Gaijin “fixed” it had that exact same thing going for it. But then it was “fixed” by stripping it of any unique feature, flattened to a pancake, with a few rolling hills laid down to form a perfect set of 3 lanes, and stamped with the “Snail Approved™” stamp.

I think more than bigger maps the game need more “open” or “mixed” maps. Right now the 70% of the maps are small flat urban mazes now add the last insane and stupid changed gaijin do in the old maps mostly was convert thse maps in more focuse urban battles removing sniping or long range combat spots or directly removing or blocking entire zones of the map.
Some maps are blocked to certain BRs following a complete nosense because much more small and bad maps are open for all BRs plus the map rotation is broken.
So the combination is a spam of constant full uptiers in small urban maps at every BR.
And yes i prefer 1000 times old maps like Karelia, Berlin or Kuban than play in abominations like Sweden, Sun city or Abandond Town.

What ever happened to that one? Haven’t seen that in forever… they remove it?

Nope, but is limited between 3.7 and 6.7. Gaijin limited a lot of old maps making the maps problem even worst.
I dont know why Berlin is blocked at 6.7 or Kuban, Karelia or Ash River at 7.7 when in 9.3 for example you are playing over and over again in single cap mode in more tinny and bad designed maps.

every small / 1 flag version of especially ardennes and hurtgen should be banned over 7.X
I would rather play karelia on top tier compared to those maps example…

Im glad to know im not the only one saying these things. Hopefully we will see a change someday.

I hate big maps. I get to the point when I simply leave the match after first death and go play other nation instead.

I am not interested in camping gameplay and riding several minutes after each death.

If anything, this game needs exactly the opposite. Even more prominent reduction of big maps.

If you are interested in fast-paced gameplay and short time to battle, why not play arcade mode?

You have only 13 minutes in Arcade, compared to 10 DAYS in Realistic. Has it ever occurred to you to even try Arcade, since it fits your professed preferences so perfectly? In arcade mode, engine power and maximum speed of all vehicles are increased by a large factor, making gameplay even faster. Enemies can also be detected with a name tag above their tanks, further facilitating the quick gameplay that you so desire.

In my opinion, Gaijin should increase the amount of large maps, especially in realistic and simulator modes.

Arcade has many mechanics that RB players dislike, including markers and boosted performance. It’s also limited to 3 spawns which isn’t the best choice.

It’s more than just slightly faster gameplay.

Only if they are good maps. A map like Fulda, El Alamein or Maginot is good, but something like Pradesh, Sinai, or Tunisia is bad.

All 3 of those maps are my personal favourites (Sinai and Tunisia before their enshittification). Tunisia and Pradesh offer dynamic gameplay due to the availability of both long range sniping and short range encounters around the capture points.
What this does, is provide the much more realistic conditions that are necessary for the varied collection of vehicles present in War Thunder. Light tanks can use their faster speed, SPGs and ATGM carriers can use their powerful armament at range, and heavy tanks can make use of their armour. The only drawback is the SLIGHTLY longer driving time (which is already very low at high tier when many tanks can go 60+ km/h cross-country).
Without large maps, many classes of tanks are simply inferior to others. Even the WORST large maps in War Thunder are better than, say, the likes of Ardennes and Breslau.
