I know that the AI attack planes can and will die trying to destroy their AI ground counterparts, but would they do the same with their fellow naval AI vehicles?
No. AI planes do not attack ai ships - in general.
But - we have on some very old Pacific maps (like Iwo Jima or the old Wake Island map) either Kamikaze D3As (Iwo Jiima) or PBYs attacking JP ships with torpedoes and G4M1s bombing the US airfield (both Wake Island). Iwo Jiima pops up quite often (zero effect of D3As), Wake Island is imho out of rotation for 3 or 4 years.

That’s not entirely true, on Falklands the A4Bs will happily take runs at the destroyers near the carriers, though they never seem to manage to damage them.
I like this reply because it seems to imply the A4Bs have emotions and they appear to show gratification upon shooting at British destroyers
sometimes they are suicidally depressed and crash themselves into the ground on purpose :(
