I know that the AI attack planes can and will die trying to destroy their AI ground counterparts, but would they do the same with their fellow naval AI vehicles?
No. AI planes do not attack ai ships - in general.
But - we have on some very old Pacific maps (like Iwo Jima or the old Wake Island map) either Kamikaze D3As (Iwo Jiima) or PBYs attacking JP ships with torpedoes and G4M1s bombing the US airfield (both Wake Island). Iwo Jiima pops up quite often (zero effect od D3As), Wake Island is imho out of rotation for 3 or 4 years.
