[Bug] Aircraft Not Rendering Beyond 1km in Sim Mode – Game Nearly Unplayable

I seriously can’t tell you how many times I’m visually tracking a plane, look away for ONE SECOND, then look back and it’s just GONE. Seriously, like Bladegash says, the sillhouette definitely does just vanish against the background. It’s there, but you have to keep your damn eyes glued to it the entire way or good luck finding it again unless it does something visible like turning hard or shooting.

Thanks for the video proof.

you can’t reason with the guy that defend this crap. That guy (Kizvy) only play at top tier and has the privilege of advance radar and missile to play his “point and click, watch missile goes vroom” game. Only us peasant suffer in this because we fly in low BR where using eyes actually matter

Yeah, I saw you first, then also at one point lost you completely even though you must have been within less than a mile from me…

That was shortly after taking off yes? Actually shortly after loosing visual on you my Virtual Desktop connection crashed (first time ever), so I called it a day in WT and didn’t come back in - also because the problematic spotting damped the fun and thus enthusiasm for me, so I did a quick FS20024 sight seeing flight instead…

As someone who has been getting shot down a lot lately as I can’t see jack sjit I’ve also noticed that the visuals tend to go incredibly fuzzy during the death camera moments as well. Once my murderer goes against the ground or the sea not just does the aircraft go seriously blurry but so does the sea oddly. It’s a bit like looking through a scope and the parallax is constantly shifting.

Had a particularly funny one last night where I thought a chasing Spitfire gave up following me as I dived for home. Looked behind me multiple times and nothing… then I noticed tracers zipping past and sure enough there’s a barely distinguishable blur against the sea that’s so close I’m within gun range. The only actual part of the aircraft I could make out was the white propeller hub floating along.

To those that say this is fine and this includes Gaijin staff if you’re reading this, if you need evidence to the contrary look out of your window at the aircraft flying by. That’s literally all you need to do. We had a helicopter circling the nearest town yesterday which across the fields is about 3 miles. It stuck out like a bug on a bedsheet.

I mean Christ alive people I can’t even find the bomber formations even when I’m in the exact same grid square half the time and yet somehow anti aircraft gunners on the ground could spot them fairly easily in reality, sometimes believe it or not at night with searchlights! I know… crazy eh!

Apologies if this sounds like I’m being nasty… but you really need to stop doing stupid bug fixes that nobody cares about like giving an aircraft an extra 10 rounds because some obscure flight manual said it carried them and fix your glaring issues instead.

A bug where enemy aircraft “contacts” became more transparent and disappeared at shorter distances than before the 2.47 Leviathans update has been fixed.

Hope they actually fixed it.

Legit. In fact, you can kinda make out the vague shape of aircraft against clouds illuminated by strong moonlight (I’m not sure of exact distance & altitude - what altitude do airliers assume at ~60 km from airport usually?)

Apparently they just applied a fix.

I think it somewhat fixed now. Dot start to render at <=8 miles and no issue of plane popping in and out of stealth mode like before in my limited test. I can now play the game again

It is still a shame that my 2 weeks of premium were wasted though

OK, just go back from testing:

It’s certainly better, and usable now, but is different beast than it was before. From 2-5km the contacts are still smaller than they were before, and they don’t have the larger halo edge around them - but they are darker and stand out from the background now. The contacts are visible now at all ranges they were before. I was seeing increased “sparkling” on the target as it banked within 2km, so the increased contrast to make maneuvering more visible is improved. It’s still a little harder to spot them compared to pre-Leviathan, especially against the ground. However once you spot a contact, you can see more detail on it and how it’s maneuvering with the full detail model than before.

I think this is an acceptable compromise, but the net effect for for prop planes and early jets pre-radar compared to pre-Leviathan will be:

  1. net increase in difficulty in finding contacts who are below you.
  2. net increase in ability to get away from a bad fight by diving low, and trying to evade.
  3. net increase in ability to ambush contacts from below while they aren’t paying attention.

I agree.
Able to play games in 4K again. It’s better but still wouldn’t call it fixed.

Seemed pretty decent for keeping track of my targets at 2.3-3.3 aircraft speeds since the update.

In close range, it’s definitely better, but long-range spotting used to be better. I’m using a Quest 2. Is anyone else noticing this?

There’s no issue with propeller planes since engagements happen closer, and I guess they adapted visibility improvements for higher resolution.

This might be still an issue on VR, on 4K, I actually find it better than before, it might be subjective though, after being blind for over a week :D

It’s much better in VR now than after the major update. Especially using the zoom in function to look at targets you are tracking. Much easier to keep track of planes as you come in to approach now.

The distant “dots” that represent aircraft are still fainter than before the major update, but it’s not unplayable now. You can see them, they’re just a bit less obvious now. But as you get closer they get much more pronounced than before.

I maxed out the cockpit sharpness, and it’s fixed now :)

Bravo Devs, you unfunked your funkiness. Please don’t make me come back here. o7

Yes, I was at 2500m and spotted a silhouette of a P47 below me, zoomed in a saw it had the yellow tail of the German version. I was impressed.

Visibility is broken again? LOD’s are flickering from much shorter distance than in 2.47.0.47. Can someone test it too? In 2.47.0.47 they are start to flickering like from 1.5-2km, now it shortened to 500 meters again

Can confirm, tried playing today. Lost two enemies due to that, one that was behind me and I maneuvered hard and the second I saw the bomb drop on one of the bombing targets, but didn’t see the aircraft.

Wasn’t helped by Gaijin once again placing the clouds in the 2000-3500m range, creating a proper pea-soup and then running both bombers, and surveillance aircraft right through that as well. With the Bonus being a tailgunner on an AI IL-28 being able to see me and fire at me despite us being in the worst pea-soup…
And I’m not 100% sure but for parts the attackers ran through that as well…

Spotting against the ground is near impossible now.

Ticket needs to be reopened, went there to add my replays, but it was closed as “fixed”…yeah well it might’ve been fixed, but now it has been broken again.

And I think as many have said it’s the medium range spots, especially against clouds. There seems to be an issue either with the depth buffer or the occlusion culling, where flying in front of a cloud makes the engine think the aircraft is invisibile or only render the engines and not the outside of the aircraft.

Edit: it’s really frustrating, if you play as a Sabre Pilot or on the german side where there is no radar equipped plane until 9.3 with the K-Sabre. Really annoying if you loose a fight angainst a Demon or other radar euipped play, because he had other means of seeing you, but you couldn’t see him and had lost the fight before it had started.
