[Bug] Aircraft Not Rendering Beyond 1km in Sim Mode – Game Nearly Unplayable

If you think the meta at top tier is larping at altitude… sorry to burt your bubble but vert notching is a thing. hmd kills are the only way to score kills on multipathers on hgh off boresight shots so that it just explodes them from up high

You can just drop a missile straight vertically ontop of a braindead multipather’s head by having a bit of height, getting them in the NEZ and lobbing the missile upwards then break and defend incase they launch back.

If the missile doesn’t kill them, high chance it’ll explode directly underneath them and crit them making it much easier to finish them off after. Especially if they just keep flying in a straight line multipathing.

It seems you have no idea what VR users have already done for their own experience: Here’s mine off the top of my head-

Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling: off.
DLSS: off
TLAA: off
in fact just all the AA off
Frame gen off
RT off
Windows refresh rate: 60hz (from 144) I don’t want my gpu churning out more than it needs to on something I’m not looking at whilst in VR.
Most in game settings pretty much bottomed out.
DX11 because 12 is unstable.
SteamVR beta because one of the latest updates coincided with a frame rate/freeze issue
Drivers updated.

I don’t mind the lower settings, I’d still play if it looked like borderlands or the Tailspin event just as long as I could see my enemies.

Geforce RTX 4080 Super
Honestly this is not some minor issue, we usually stay out of the forum drama.

A lot of recent games I’ve seen players just spawn camping because the only time they can see enemies are when they’re on the airfield/taking off. Or Winter Stalingrad being the meta for the con trails.

The lack of spotting is exploitable too, I’ve taken out bandits been seen then disappeared. I’ve been unable to see my own wingman who I’m in discord with and has pinged next to me.

We’re here because we like the game and are raising a quality of life issue that will lose players.

Gamewise: Every game since space invaders has the player as a more than average human, someone who rolled high in everything so give us that extra spotting ability back.

Game Promotion: There are far fewer youtube videos going out as the footage just isn’t being made. Me sneaking up on the 5th unsuspecting bandit is boring compared to energy fights, reversals,scissors, baiting, saving team mates and chaining kills.

I did exactly as what you described. I even TRIED TO DOWNSCALE my Q3 resolution to render at 0.5 PD. The game looks dogshit and I still cannot see ANYTHING

The only fancy thing I have on is the VSync and that was whilst trying to fix the framerate/freeze issues, no mention of any fixes in the patches so I don’t know if it was fixed or not a Gaijin issue- if we had more feedback with the devs we’d know. All we get is “update your drivers” blah blah etc… never anything that might lead us to check elsewhere or communicate with other companies. Even though the issue suddenly started immediately after an update.

I won’t lie, the environment seems better from 5km above but lower down it’s still the same- asset stutters, lighting effect flickering when LOD distance changes, orb of pop in for trees/grass. All of this is not a sufficient problem for me to care, it’s expected and not game breaking for me.

Sorry to hear about your issues, I’m using the PSVR2. There’s a few Q3 users around who could help you tweak things but I’m sure you’ve been in all the settings already like all of us. o7

yeah i said vr is cooked earlier, however flatscreen users have no excuse

Half the impression I get of people defending this change is that they barely if ever play ranks 2, 3 and 4. My impression remains correct.

Yep. As you can already see from his main vehicle and BR. His gameplay is just “point and click” and watch missile go vroom, while us WWII and early era Jet player really need to keep track of the enemy through the entire fight

Had a match yester day in Denmark with sunny but misty conditions in my Mirage IIIS (10.3, Meta Quest 3 VR headset), and really had a difficult time spotting anything.

Once again, even good radar contacts at short distances were mostly not visible. Sometimes i could glimpse vague dots for aircraft, but really much more difficult to spot. In similar conditions before Leviathan I could have spotted the aircraft more clearer from much farther away, now it’s mostly just guesswork, locking and firing at targets only 2, 3 miles away, where the only way to find out where they actually are is by observing where the missile is roughly going…

I really hope this gets fixed soon…

Weather now affects spotting more than before. The new visibility mechanics are heavily influenced by any mist or clouds.

It’s not “your problem” though is it? It’s a problem with a fundamental and simple system in the game that simply no longer works. (Was also broken before but this update essentially lit the charred remains of the pre-leviathans spotting system back on fire.)

Actually a big one is:

  • I and others paid for a 1440p/4K monitors and intend to play using those resolutions.

Having to intentionally lower the games resolution to have targets render is absurd, especially for a game that is pretty reliant on being able to see your targets. Not only that but also this game (no matter how it actually looks like) is still being worked on and with new updates every few months, this isn’t a game that has stopped receiving support and has been abandoned. A game that is still being updated and supported in 2025 should be able to support 1440p and higher resolutions without issue. The fact that it is infact an issue is a joke and completely indefensible, especially with the amount of money the game rakes in every update and sale.

I guess the reason why he is so vocal about the resolution is because he went broke after building his PC, and was bitter that he couldn’t play at the setting his GPU is fully capable of. Either that, or he is actually poor af and is lying about his actual PC spec

You literally only need to play A SINGLE (1!) sim game in a BR where radars are shit or nonexistent and you’d instantly change idea otherwise you’re just trolling

Same people, same setup, same settings — it worked before the update, so why doesn’t it work now? It’s really that simple.

Especially since it still doesn’t work very good at 1080p. There’s still the 1.5-4km blindspot where planes are much more difficult to see overall, and long range spotting seems less consistent.

Remember how I was following you? I suddenly lost you completely from sight.
Now, rewatching the footage 50 times, I can see you reappear, I even looked at you because I saw a smudge on the edge of my screen, but looking DIRECTLY AT YOU made you 100% invisible.

I was following Schindibee to a battle, hadn’t lost him from sight in 3 minutes while keeping a close eye on him…yet I turn around 1 second (literally) and he is completely and utterly gone.

At 0:31 there is a smudge from him at my right side front glass panel, yet I only saw this now, after reviewing the video 50 times. I usually spot smudges in micro seconds, but this here is on a completely different level of invisible.

If you watch very closely, you will see him reappear on the right at around 0:33… yet, when I look at him, he disappears almost completely. He is ESPECIALLY invisible, when looking at him directly.

This is not “just the light”, fog or situation, this happens ALL the time currently in sim.

Sometimes it is even more pronounced in close range than long range. I said, I wouldn’t post this issue publicly yet.
That was 0.43.
This is now 0.46
After this video, I will be posting publicly until it’s solved.
This is the last unlisted video.
I hadn’t played RB in a decade (besides a few matches in between), now it is the only mode that I can play were I see the enemy… funny how rendering works different there… hmm.

Rewatching my old videos, I think I’ve figured out the problem: before, the silhouettes of aircraft at medium distance were artificially highlighted with increased contrast, making them more visible against the ground and sky, but now that’s gone. As soon as an aircraft transitions from a dot to a model, it immediately blends into the surroundings.

Just dropped the res on my 43” 4K display down to 1080p. It does “help” but is still a disaster and a sorry excuse for a fix.
Won’t be spending anymore money on the game until it’s fixed.
